Thankfully that's not the case with the two-ski ski bikes. The moment there's no input on the handlebar the bike falls over. The three-ski ones on the other hand, I can see why they need tethers.
I met a someone years ago on one of the these, he had regular ski boots w/ really short skis. He said his knees couldn’t handle the skiing anymore so he switched to the bike. He was really good at it, now I’m at that point I had one knee replacement already and looks like I’m going to have to get the other one done

Ski Bikes have been around for a very long time. In the 70 ies they were built in Austria, they called them Ski Bobs. They even had championships , even world championships. One of the centers was Flachau in Austria.
How would a ski bike be for someone who's been a great skier all their life but I've ended up getting into a accident and can't ski because of 2 knee surgeries and a back surgery. I just want to be able to go down slopes again. I don't need to do jumps. I miss skiing so much. Just wondering your thoughts about it. I'm still in good shape. Unfortunately skiing puts to much pressure on my knee.
could help with carving too, giving you a more fluid feel when you bounce side to side. Like even being able to switch what foot is forward for the turns or carving. Kinda like when you're skiing. Probably give you more tail control with more leverage when one foot is more toward the rear. Also better spraying ability. I would imagine it would also be easier to do some manuals.
practically putting a pin in the central position of the blade, with the rest position upwards it is also enough 10, 15 degrees. I don't know how to explain. Instead of the pedals there are two covered platforms on the outer sides, which if by chance one slips the legs and feet remain protected. Great idea.
That’s awesome! I’m a full time skier in the winter and a mountain biker in the summer so this is very interesting. Just wondering, can you catch an edge on the bike like you do on skies...which would lead to a pretty big lateral tumble on a ski bike...just wondering?
@@TheLoamRanger I feel like i'd prefer a Scooter version like my mountain scooter. No idea why but feet position looks scary compared to a bicycle or a big long Gravity scooter board.
had to give up snowboarding after becoming disabled vet and they are awesome. zero back impact, could go all day. short skis on feet double control. I stop at any airtime.
@@JETJOOBOY I imagine they're narrow so that you can do some hard carving where your ski-bike needs to get at some fairly extreme angles relative to the ground, wider set pedals would likely limit that as they'd be hitting snow. I'd be curious what it would be like to put regular offset pedals you can spin (with some adjustable built in resistance) on the ski bike, that way you can switch stance when you're carving left vs. right, and that pedal will be higher so it won't hit the ground. If you were used to a normal bike I imagine it might feel more comfortable at first, but perhaps not be superior vs getting used to the fixed ski bike pedals, although I imagine the extra width might aid in stability/control, so who knows. Haven't tried it but would love to.
Hey there, I was wondering (I doubt you’ll ever see this) when exactly you were at Sunshine? I was there just over a week ago, and this video was posted a week ago. I did see some snow bikers and thought it looked insanely cool. I’m wondering if it could have been you?!
I am SO stoked on this idea!!! How sick would it be if there were DH Bike style, single track trails intended for ski bikes? (As opposed to just riding A Line on that thing during the winter - which would also be sick)
Cool! 😎 When I get 70 five years from now and think high speed down hill skiing is getting too dangerous I believe that this can be a fun challenge and still give me a rush! 🤘🏻😁🤘🏻 Thx f uploading A/ Sweden
man!!! i was a heavy into snowboarding in high school, faded in college, and havent done it since. but just taking a look at those views and runs makes me want to get back into it!!! and that ski bike looks hella fun!!!!!
I wonder if it would help to have the pedals staggered one forward on one side, and one further back on the other just like how you stand / balance on the cranks on a regular bike at fast coasting / jumping speeds. It just looks wrong having your feet so close together. I bet that would give way more stability and control.
Chop off the tail of the fork ski and the bike will work even better. I made a ski for for bikes in the 90s that I used to jump off 15 drop offs at ski areas. It had the rear wheel still on the bike though. It was awesome fun. The extended tail on the front ski displaces the wieght that is intended to be imparted by bicycle frames. when you chop off the tail, the weight is transfered properly and the steering improves immensely instead of the turning force being lost to the opposite side of the turn by the tail.
I guess the one thing is that subtle little slowing you can do on ski's like snowplow when there's congestion that you can't do here...Suppose you can drag your feet? What about a somewhat type brake like a claw that can be pushed downward?
Okay so I thought of finding a way to create a snowboard propel mechanism so no lifts are needed using a detachable paddle but just slapping a frame battery and lil paddle with actuator arm on the back of this to power you up hills and brake down would add a cool element for riding off resort
It seems like some resorts would ban these. When snowboards first came out they were banned. Some resorts in Colorado would yank your season pass if they caught you on the mountain with one. Now they have dedicated terrain parks and probably more people on boards than skis.
You wearing regular shoes, I wear snowboard boots but feel like I have no control, saying I can't keep my feet on for jumps. Thought about putting some short cranks on too
1. i can make a hand brake for that bike that slows you. 2. i can make a spring for the front end ski so it flexes like your legs would. 3. this was great thanks for the inspiration!
Are you able to get onto and edge and carve? I’d be interested to see how it would work with the handlebars locked so they don’t turn. My intuition says it may actually help you lean into a carve and hold an edge. You may even be able to have something machined so you can lock and unlock on the fly.

Ski Bikes have been around for a very long time. In the 70 ies they were built in Austria, they called them Ski Bobs. They even had championships , even world championships. One of the centers was Flachau in Austria.
Me and my dad were there that day and saw you. crazy cool video man!!!
NEW SKI BIKE VID IS UP! ua-cam.com/video/YqdXlZW2hJA/v-deo.html I gave a noob ski biker only ONE day to go from first run, to double black gnar...
Yea
How would a ski bike be for someone who's been a great skier all their life but I've ended up getting into a accident and can't ski because of 2 knee surgeries and a back surgery. I just want to be able to go down slopes again. I don't need to do jumps. I miss skiing so much. Just wondering your thoughts about it. I'm still in good shape. Unfortunately skiing puts to much pressure on my knee.
When he was talking about a-line that trail is connected to Jeff’s whoop whoop which my last video on my channel was filmed at! Great video guys.
That looks totally sick! What do you think about having rotating pedals so you can put your outside foot, on a sharp turn, at the 6 o'clock position?
could help with carving too, giving you a more fluid feel when you bounce side to side. Like even being able to switch what foot is forward for the turns or carving. Kinda like when you're skiing. Probably give you more tail control with more leverage when one foot is more toward the rear. Also better spraying ability. I would imagine it would also be easier to do some manuals.
Have you heard of SNO-GO? It’s real similar to what you’re talking about. Wicked fun too
practically putting a pin in the central position of the blade, with the rest position upwards it is also enough 10, 15 degrees. I don't know how to explain.
Instead of the pedals there are two covered platforms on the outer sides, which if by chance one slips the legs and feet remain protected.
Great idea.
this is 100% gonna be what snowboarding was in the 80s and im here for it.
Wow I watched this for fun and I went to banff and lake Louise 3 years today this Is a great video keep it up 👏🏽👏🏽
That’s awesome! I’m a full time skier in the winter and a mountain biker in the summer so this is very interesting. Just wondering, can you catch an edge on the bike like you do on skies...which would lead to a pretty big lateral tumble on a ski bike...just wondering?
Only on full suspension. I'm thinking tail bikes just make a fractured butt
You can, but the learning curve is fast, I haven't caught an edge in years.
Looks so fun and solves many issues with both skiing and snowboarding, wish I had one
I feel like stopping and changing direction would take quite a while to get.
You would think! But honestly, I'm 100% confident you or anyone else would get the hang of it within an hour.
@@TheLoamRanger I feel like i'd prefer a Scooter version like my mountain scooter. No idea why but feet position looks scary compared to a bicycle or a big long Gravity scooter board.
Nope
had to give up snowboarding after becoming disabled vet and they are awesome. zero back impact, could go all day. short skis on feet double control. I stop at any airtime.
That looks soooo fun, do you feel much of a difference from pedal position vs regular offset stance with cranks?
I bet it is like going from a pedal bike to a motorbike..
Weird for 5 minutes..
They DO look VERY close together but.. totally seems to WORK A TREAT!
I want to try this.... love biking and mountain snow sports...
Hey there, I was wondering (I doubt you’ll ever see this) when exactly you were at Sunshine? I was there just over a week ago, and this video was posted a week ago. I did see some snow bikers and thought it looked insanely cool. I’m wondering if it could have been you?!
Who knows
I know but I won't tell. Ain't no snitch
@@nicolasjensen6774 lol ok then
The quality of your videos are amazing!
I am SO stoked on this idea!!! How sick would it be if there were DH Bike style, single track trails intended for ski bikes? (As opposed to just riding A Line on that thing during the winter - which would also be sick)
there are at certain resorts.
Cool! 😎
When I get 70 five years from now and think high speed down hill skiing is getting too dangerous I believe that this can be a fun challenge and still give me a rush! 🤘🏻😁🤘🏻
Thx f uploading
A/ Sweden
if he added a spring contraption on the back ski he could do a wheelie
they have that with the tngnt carves
man!!! i was a heavy into snowboarding in high school, faded in college, and havent done it since. but just taking a look at those views and runs makes me want to get back into it!!! and that ski bike looks hella fun!!!!!
3:23 there is a little text and it says "meow"
I see
What's the BB situation? Is it possible to put a crankset in there so you can drop your outside foot?
yes.
I built one of these over the summer, they shred
Nyc 1 dude 🤗
BMX actually
Very cool! Never even heard of this before. Scary fast. Looked like a lot of fun
M’y little brother was sitting in the middle of the trail when 3 of those bikes jumped over him lol
Dont sit in middle of the trail. Common sense
Mmmmkay
Haha awesome. Probably want a bit more protection. Its like combining the dangers of road and mountain biking all in one. Love seeing AB on youtube
I've wanted a ski bike for 3 years now. Next year is the year!
I found my new sport. I’ve always loved bmx and mtb plus the snow now I can combine everything.
These things should be more common, it looks insane
I think they're spreading fast, I've seen some almost every day on the slopes in switzerland this season
@@ammakko yeah those are from a legit compamy making snowbikes called brenter
Nah, just ski and snowboard (this is coming from someone who mountain bikes 4 times a week during the Spring/Summer/Fall).
I've been to Sunshine plenty of times but I don't think I've ever seen that park.... I've got some exploring to do
Let me be the first to say:
I want one. Oh wait I’m sure everyone else who saw this video already said that.
These look like fun hopefully they catch on here in Vermont with more then one ski resort
I would love to see a frame closer to a DH spec. Slacker head tube and longer top tube.
I wonder if it would help to have the pedals staggered one forward on one side, and one further back on the other just like how you stand / balance on the cranks on a regular bike at fast coasting / jumping speeds. It just looks wrong having your feet so close together. I bet that would give way more stability and control.
Yeah man thank you for putting this video up, because you made me finally see how fun this looks !!!
This is awesome, now I can be the insane guy who shows up with both a snowskate AND a ski bike.
Yes. This has to be ordered now.
Okay so I thought of finding a way to create a snowboard propel mechanism so no lifts are needed using a detachable paddle but just slapping a frame battery and lil paddle with actuator arm on the back of this to power you up hills and brake down would add a cool element for riding off resort
I just rook a downhill ride on my hardtail in the worst snowstorm germany witnessed since 50 years. Now i get recommended this
It seems like some resorts would ban these.
Thought about putting some short cranks on too
Here in the north of Sweden we have been putting small skis on bicycle frames since, atleast, the 70s... It is fun.
1. i can make a hand brake for that bike that slows you.
2. i can make a spring for the front end ski so it flexes like your legs would.
3. this was great thanks for the inspiration!
I got a bmx version and man oh man, it's so nimble! It's really a lot of fun to ski bike!
Are you able to get onto and edge and carve? I’d be interested to see how it would work with the handlebars locked so they don’t turn. My intuition says it may actually help you lean into a carve and hold an edge. You may even be able to have something machined so you can lock and unlock on the fly.
Underrated comment. This is genius
