Isn’t this the guy Barenboim did a masterclass on?

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful masterclass, especially as it further enlightens me on my favorite Beethoven late piano sonata. It is so fascinating and instructive to listen to Jonathan Biss give his own masterful expertise of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 30 and pass on to a student his insightful revelations and compare them to a masterclass when Biss himself was the student and taking instruction from Daniel Barenboim. Each has their own insight and unique revelations to impart....just Amazing.

Jonathan Biss (when a bit younger) was the student in a masterclass by Daniel Barenboim on exactly this movement of Opus 109. It's interesting to compare the two masterclasses. In some ways I like this student's performance better than the one Biss did for Barenboim. Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/ybqki3TR32c/v-deo.html

Johnathan Biss is such an incredible interpreter of Beethoven.
His musicality and use of dynamics are absolutely top class.... He seems to add another dimension to every single phrase.

I am not such a friend of those lectures where one person thinks, he knows everything about subjective things. I prefer much more discussion and a lively talk. By the way sorry for my bad English

Yes. Barenboim did a master class during which Biss performed 109. He learned little, but then Biss is not a great musician. I cannot believe he is
Teaching at Curtis. He clearly has little to say and less an understanding of this incredible piece.

My uncle plays the violin in the Philadelphia Orchestra. He studied at Juilliard and at Curtis. His recommendation to me (an amateur pianist) was to get all the Biss Beethoven recordings (which I did) because he found them to be transcendent. I agree.
