So great to see you joyful with your haul. Bookpilled talked about you in a video and I couldn’t find your page. Finally here. Looking forward to more videos.
You can tell I enjoyed your presentation. What great books you found! If those Hodgsons are in good shape you could sell them for at least $50. I collect paperback first editions, but I also buy hardcover firsts when I can afford them. Thank you for an interesting video.
As I'm reading these vintage paperbacks; I am replacing them with the hard covers if it's a piece I really enjoyed reading. If not I'm letting them find a new home with someone who either hasn't read it and is interested or someone who will really love it.
In my early days as a bookmobile librarian (1970's) I would visit used book stores and walk away with boxes of these vintage paperbacks for our collection. I was like a kid in a candy shop and I added some amazing titles for our Science Fiction readers. Little did I know what valuable treasures they would turn out to be several decades later. Regards..
Our Library book mobile used to come to my daycare during the summer when school was out and I was the only one they would let check out more than one book at a time, because I was such a fast reader. The man that came was always really nice to me. I was too young then for sci fi, mostly goosebumps, but I still distinctly remember how cool it was that it was a whole van filled with books.
@@B0BsBooks Cool... I love hearing stories like this and I always knew some of those "Goosebumps" kids would end up as lifelong readers. I had the best job in the world!!! Regards...
What is this? UA-cam recommending a good, pertinent video? I just started The Death Gate Cycle myself, haven’t finished the first book for reasons but I’m really enjoying it. To Green Angel Tower is book 3 of Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, à fantastic, fantastic trilogy. The Dragonbone Chair is book 1, never seen that version. The series was a very obvious inspiration to Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. Great deals!
The Hodgson covers are from a medieval painting called the Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymous Bosch. For me, Hodgson is one of the greatest horror writers of all time. Read almost anything else by him first. This book is weird and written in an ornate style. It can be heavy slogging at times, but worth it. Start with his novel The House on the Borderland or any of his great short stories.
I buy mainly by auctions. That's a heck of a haul for only 8 freaking dollars. LoL. I love buying and reading 50s and 60s sci-fi. I'm going to drop a name Melanie Rawn, not highly known but addicting.
I first read Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman when they wrote a bunch of novels for the Dragonlance Dungeons and Dragons setting in the late 80s. As an 11 year old I thought they were totally amazing. The Death Gate Cycle was coming out every year as I went though high school so I always asked for the new one for Christmas from my Grandmother... the Early ones were fantastic setting books, but I feel like the last few didn't really stick the landing... but I suspect it might also have been me being 18 rather than 12 when reading them.
There is a book I am currently reading by Neil Hancock and I am not enjoying it as much as I did Another of his works and it makes me want to re read it because I think I may be suffering the same thing where something I read as a preteen enraptured me but as an adult it doesn’t hold the same magic.
Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series 1. Dragonbone Chair 2. Stone of Farewell 3. To Green Angel Tower I hope you enjoy. I always thought Tad Williams had strong prose.
4:o8: Hi HB. Future Rob here travelling into the past to warn you about CHTHON. Put the book down and slowly back away. I love that I find this channel a little more than a year from now. Great content.
speaking of those Ballantine Adult Fantasy books (Lud in the Mist, Night Land) I finished my collection a couple years ago and now the question is, How TF WOULD I READ THEM ALL
He directed the movie, Lester Abrams came up with the concepts, and Topcraft (Japanese animation company that later became Ghibli) did the bulk of the animations.
Lud-in-the Mist is very highly rated in all of the Fantasy Literature textbooks. I have read Van Vogt: Slan, The Weapon Shops of Isher, The War Against the Rull, and the World of Null A. All were good and Slan is a classic. So is Weapon Shops. I've also grazed a number of stories from his collections. He wrote a series of the Null A books. One is called The Players of Null A and the cover was done by the artist who did the Goosebumps books. Very cool.
Late to the party. Cool haul. A few people already commented on van Vogt. I understand that he was deep in L. Ron’s Dianetics & didn’t write for a decade during that time. I’m presently slogging through Slan. It kinda went over the top & lost me like Bester’s The Stars My Destination. I’m gonna get it for typing that.
I haven't read Bester, so I cannot give it to you, but I was gifted a copy recently, so maybe I will later ;) JK I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I appreciate BookTube for that reason.
Here bc Bookpilled name dropped you. Great content so far. James Branch Cabell wrote a novel named "Jurgen". It's one of my favorite fantasy novels. It was banned at some point and he had to go to court, I guess to explain why he wrote the book? It's an adult Alice's Adventures in Wonderland style story. Real good stuff. Looking forward to more videos!
I have an A.E. Van Vogt hard cover book. It is 'The voyage of the space Beagle'. The author won a settlement from 'Alien' producers for copying some of the ideas. I'm re-reading it. i would call it Hard core SF.
Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is a great series but you are missing the 2nd book in the trilogy entitled Stone of Farewell…The Green Angel Tower is the final book in the first trilogy just split into 2 parts due to its size…It’s a great Trilogy and there’s a sequel Trilogy that should be completed next year…I suggest you don’t start that trilogy until you can find or purchase the 2nd book Stone of Farewell…I also found you because of Bookpilled and this is my first of your videos…Keep up the good works…👍🏻
I’ll add it to the be on the look out list. I’ve had some decent luck with a second hand shop near me so I’ll keep my eyes peeled. Thank you for giving my channel a look. Matt is kind and hella smart
The Deathgate cycle is a gem
Agree
if one just devoted oneself to reading every book in that series they would be lost in a wonderland for years. Sounds like a good idea
rare to find the Night Land duo in such great shape. another great score.
I am glad I decided to keep them instead of selling them.
So great to see you joyful with your haul. Bookpilled talked about you in a video and I couldn’t find your page. Finally here. Looking forward to more videos.

Awesome 😎 I’m gonna do a vintage book haul next week when I go to the used bookstore ❤
As you should!

Lud-in-the-mist is part of the old Ballantine adult fantasy series. Lin Carter ed. They sell for several times their cover price these days.
That's awesome to know thank you!
Green Angel Tower is book 3 in Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series. The series starts with The Dragonbone Chair
Thank you so much!
Vintage sci-if book haul. Sign me up.
I was sat on the floor for so long, I forgot I was there to pick up something for work.
The Cabell book and the Nightland books are also part of the Ballantine adult fantasy series.

Ohhh Thank you for the information that makes me even more excited to read the Dragonbone Chair! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me.

I'm all for finding more female authors, so thank you

Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series
1. Dragonbone Chair
2. Stone of Farewell
3. To Green Angel Tower
I hope you enjoy. I always thought Tad Williams had strong prose.
Thank you Frank! That series looks thicc so it may wait until I'm on holiday and have some serious time to sit and enjoy the story.

but but but Matt said it was good. It's been on my TBR since this video was made, so don't worry it's way down on the list lol.
speaking of those Ballantine Adult Fantasy books (Lud in the Mist, Night Land) I finished my collection a couple years ago and now the question is, How TF WOULD I READ THEM ALL
Congratulations on completing the collection! And I agree on the when will I ever find time to read all the things?!
I think Ralph Bakshi was the artist who made to old Hobbit animated film.
He directed the movie, Lester Abrams came up with the concepts, and Topcraft (Japanese animation company that later became Ghibli) did the bulk of the animations.
for the record Lud in the Mist was the big score here.

I loved goosebumps books as a kid. You've read so much!
The Tim Jacobus (Goosebumps artist) was actually entitled Null-A Three.
BOOOM
Your videos are definitely making me set time aside in my week to read, but are also giving me a monumental reading list lol.
@@B0BsBooks you should see the raft of unread books I have floating around my apartment
This channel will flourish, beautifully presented and engaging content.

Great covers on some of those books
Big agree! I'm definitely a sucker for picking up a book just because the cover is amazing.
Omg those covers!
There was a fantasy book I read like 12 years ago about a master thief helping a prince fight a sorcerer.cant remember the name of book.got any ideal
No I sadly do not, but that sound like an amazing premise for a book, so if I figure it out I'll comment again!
I just read Cthon, by Bookpilled's rec. Be interesting to see your take. 🙏
Paz, it's on the list. Starting February 2022 I'll have more time to devote to reading so I'll be getting through my massive TBR.
Here bc Bookpilled name dropped you. Great content so far.

That’s a really cool factoid, thank you for sharing it. I looked into it and $50k seems like a tiny settlement for how huge the franchise became.
Wow, that's way back. I have a paperback in my book box somewhere.
Omg so lucky!
I felt super lucky!
