I got ‘got’ by a guy who said he could remove a few scratches on my car. He just smeared a light green putty on some scratches, told me it would fill in and could buffed smooth after a few hours. I ended up with that light colored putty making my scratches stand out even more. Fortunately he didn’t do any sanding or painting. I would not have agreed to that though.
But he got me by first suctioning out a dent beautifully. And he pointed out a couple of scratches that the putty wouldn’t work for. Actual results on something else + a little truth mixed in with a lie makes the lie more believable. I was out $115.

A lot of times this happens when you park your car in the parking lot, and when you come back out from the store you see them come up to you saying there's a scratch on your car and they can fix it. What gives paint it's color is pigment and it's in the form of things known as "Solids". The problem with paint from a spry can is that the actual size, at a microscopic level, of the solids is very tiny when compared with actual automotive paint and sprayed from an actual spray gun. The chemical makeup is also different. Spray cans are "Ready to Use" and have long shelf lives. Professional paint is stored in pigments and mixed with reducers, activators, catalysts and hardeners and will only last a short time after mixed in most cases. Bottom line is that they are far more durable and will cover a lot more than the stuff in a spray can. The gray looking paint on the plaintiff's door is classic of what happens to spray paint when exposed to the sun for a little while, especially if it's sprayed really thin. The only time using spray paint will last for any period at all is if it is top coated with professional style clear coat, not spray can clear coat. Even then it tends to fade much faster. Stick with the real stuff if you care about the looks of your car and you will be much more satisfied.

    “Just black paint…”
    ……
There is no such thing as ‘just black’ being the same for each and every car when it comes down to the paint color.
There are so many, tiny and nuanced, variations in ‘black’ when you look at the level of intensity and darkness.
Some black color variations lean more towards an almost anthracite.
There’s Signal Black, Jet Black, Graphite Black, Traffic Black and so on, each with their own RAL number.
So when someone tells you they will paint your black car with ‘just black’-car paint… you should NOT let them do it!
By them not recognizing the color variations, they immediately have made clear they do not have the necessary expertise, knowledge or even care about the job they want to do and disqualified themselves as ‘professional car painter’!!
And that’s without even taking into consideration all the other required actions that are imperative in the car-paint-process!
