Whenever I see a Tom Bihn bag in halcyon for some reason I always think of it like a bag still wearing its pajamas instead of actually getting dressed for the day. Make of that what you will but looks like a pretty nice bag regardless.
I really like the look and feel of the material, but there are some offices where it might not be acceptable. The light weight and flexible nature just makes it preferable for most of my uses.
I’ve got a pilot in the blue ballistic nylon that fits in well at the office. Question. It looks like the main zipper on yours is still pretty hard to pull? Mine still is. I was hoping it would loosen up but it never has. I suspect it is the waterproof liner because I have a mountain Smith bag with the same zipper but not waterproof and it is much easier to pull.
Love this bag. I pack v light and use this for my only bag for travel. I can easily live out of this bag for 1 week. Much longer if washing clothes on the go! Awesome bag
I really like halcyon because of its lightweight and compressibility , but all the fabrics they offer really are great. If you want something professional, the 525 ballistic is probably the cleanest that holds its shape
I know it’s been awhile since you posted this but I’m hoping you can answer my question. Can you fit the Peak Design medium packing cubes in the main compartment? If not is there another cube that you could recommend that would fit?
Could this fit a 14" laptop with these dimensions? 12.28" x 8.94" x 0.77" / 312mm x 227mm x 19.5 mm. Tom Bihn's site gives these measures for the external area of the Pilot: 15.4" (w) x 11.4" (h) x 5.1" (d) / 390 (w) x 290 (h) x 130 (d) mm. I'm not sure how much space there would be inside. If cramming in a 14" laptop plus sleeve. 🤔 (The Cache would have to be 13A, 15D, or another brand. 13A is 5mm short in interior height.)
Update! Tom Bihn customer service doesn’t recommend the 15” Caches. It’s right up against the zippers already. A 13” (or a specific dimension of 14” laptop can fit).
The Halcyon is a form of ripstop nylon. Tom Bihn has done a lot of research with fabrics ensuring that the ones they use perform at the top of the market for their segment, so I’m a big fan of the durability I’ve seen

The water resistant lining definitely takes a while to fully break in… it won’t ever be as smooth as a non-lined zipper, though.

That’s how I feel too
You are quite good...very thorough, I am amazed! Liked and subscribed.
Thank you!
Trying to decide on a fabric for this. We will see if the 1000 cordura comes to this bag

This was my gateway-tomBihn bag :)
Mine was a synapse 25
Do you find this to fit upright under most airplane seats? I’m curious about foot room on either side
While it really depends on the airplane, I'd say that most of the time it does not fit upright, especially with a computer in it.
@@AndyModellBackpacks thanks goat!

The peak design packing cube medium is too big for sure. An eagle creek medium may fit well, though
@@AndyModellBackpacks thanks for the reply and the great review. Keep ‘‘em coming
Would this be a good college bag? I like this bag but I’m not sure if it’s big enough for a couple school books, laptop, ipad, etc
Depending on the books / laptop/ tablet, I think it might be a bit small for college.

How is it compared to ripstop nylon ?

What would you not want to put in the bag?
This one doesn’t fit a 15” computer
Love the design but not the shape. If it didn’t curve inwards at the top like a butterfly then I’d buy it. I went with the cadet instead.
I think the butterfly effect may be more of an optical illusion.
