My favourite Volvos have always been the 144 and the 164. Both are rugged enough to withstand most people's driving habits, while also being civil enough to be driven to a school prom, to church on Sunday, or to a meeting at the office. Not to mention being safe enough to ensure that you make it to your destination safely.
16 years without hassles & I was the lucky 1 driving our mustard 164- as the stick started smoking. The tires stopped going up the off ramp. There was little option but to remain calm and pull right. Thankfully the brakes were fine and AAA swiftly gave me a needed ride home.
Thanks for posting this, my mother had a blue '75 purchased new but had severe reliability issues. We only kept it for two years due to the closest Volvo dealer was 45 miles from us after our local dealer went out of business.

I wish I could say that I've owned any Volvo. I'd buy one if I could find one in good original condition.
