Link Wray, John Cipollina, Nick Gravenites, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Northern California...It doesn't get any better than this!
In May 1967 I attended the Avalon Ballroom concert by QMS. I remember the cigarette jutting out of the tuning head of Mr. Cipollina's guitar. Incomparable music. Great memories.
What a great jam. These guys rock, thank you.Born and raised there, went to every outdoor kegger, gig, concert,it was the best time of my life.Thank you God for letting me grow up there and in this time.
I passed through Garberville this summer on a Greyhound. Looked like a nice little town. I didn’t realize it was large enough to have a little festival as this seems to have beeb
I have to say this again.....I saw Thunder n Lightning round 82 at the Keyestone Berkeley opening for Roy Buchanan. One of the best shows I have ever seen.As I have seen some good ones. These guys were so fucking good we were all wondering when their set was over how Roy could be better. He was.Not by much.Roy hit 10.00 T n L hit around 9.80. Small Walk in Box was their showstopper.Roy jammed Johns Blues and Turn to Stone to EPIC LEVELS.One killer night for the music.
You made me glad I woke up this morning, Mr. Cipollina my favorite guitarist who I never got to see live. Got goosebumps listening to him. Best bar band in the universe playing great in the daytime. My new favorite video. Can’t say anymore except thank you for sharing.
Aloha, love this. Chippolina rules, imho. What an original, innovative sound he created, and yes,of course it comes from the original blues kings. Thank you so much for posting this🎶🎸🎼✌🏼.

Don't believe everything you read: 1) it's not 'Mama Lying or Mama Tried' IT'S "MAMA LION". 2)NICKSILVER WAX MUSEUM DC NOT '84, 10-4-83. It was 2 weeks after I was blessed to catch the Dinosaurs in Denver 9-16-83, too. I missed the plane to the Dinosaurs' next show in SLC (w/D.LaFlamme's Band opening (I still got around & at the DC NICKSILVER show I got to meet Cipollina by incessantly calling him to the edge of the stage from the split in the back curtains until he came out! "Man, I just saw you w/the Dinosaurs in Denver 2 weeks ago and you fkg TORE UP!" "WE-E-ELL! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!" (chuckling at my 'immediacy') "Mona! Yeah!" & let his hand stay attached to play the best show I've ever seen/heard out of a couple hundred 'real' ones. Sorry for the correction but I'm positive re both. It's y'day. I have no shame.
Nobody's perfect, but if you see a Nick (John, Bloomfield) tune titled by SK, et al 'Mama Tried'- it's not; it's Mama Lion & was originally only to be on Bloomfield's instructional 3 LP set for Guitar Player on the Kickin' Mule label, then came out on 1 of the 3 Laserlight CDs & w/out Nick's permission for that release. Anybody know how I can get Nick's CD ''LIVE AT NEGRI'S" ?
My biggest bummer in rock and roll history ! I'm 18 & I know what I want - I have 5 tickets for the QMS reunion tour 1975 & ? my favorite psychedelic guitarist John Cipolinna QUIT ! I did see him once with Link Wray in 1975 at a small club - my father's place, Roslyn, L.I. in 1975 Cipolinna played Mona and that was the last time he played like 68 - afterwards he roughed it up, just like all his other bands were never as good as QMS in 68 ! the best
I hope Greg's still around. I begged him to call me before he was moving & I'd JUST BITTEN OFF A BITE OF PIZZA THAT WAS TOO BIG & WENT DOWN THE WRONG PIPE SO HE SAID HELLO & I SOUNDED LIKE A GRUNTING _?_‽ HE HUNG UP AS I WAS CLEARING MY THROAT TO BREATHE & HEARD ''I DON'T have time for THIS!!"- CLICK! Oh no!!..(& an extension in a hotel so not 'call back'-able ! Greg?
An amazing man and a hell of a talent.

Gravenites sings Peide of Man really well but Cippolno and original QMS lineup has no equal for this music
nice close ups of chippy.
These old video documents sure do illustrate the great replacement quite starkly. Today ole Johnny wouldn't see many "pink bodies out there" would he?
Damn, this is so hot!!!
