Great scene ... " I threw it all away" by Dylan is the perfect song to match it up. When he looks over to the bullpen and gives the look. He bears down and comes up with it. That is what competitive sport is all about. Awesome movie
This is undoubtely my favorite Baseball Motion Picture. The main role of Billy Chapel is a true homage not only for the greatest baseball players reaching their last steps. For Love of the Game is, in my opinion, a must-see-picture for everyone who has to do his art (profession) in front of the public. All the fears, all the emotions, all the doubts faced by the artist or the sportsman comes out watching those moving scenes.
I know this movie got a lot of negative reviews, but, I love it. It makes you think what goes through the mind of a pitcher. Kevin Costner gave a good performance and I enjoyed it. "I love you Mickey Hart"!
Im not a Baseball fan or player... but i love sport movies. And this is a jewel. I saw this movie in my 40's and i felt same way as a old school basketball player... not pro... but even tho, it is hard get through when your body isn't the same than 20's, your head now thinks things you dont when you were younger. That state of "unconscience" when younger players do gratests things, and now when youre old, that great thing is just try to throw a ball to catcher. Absolutely a great sport movie.
This movie was awesome in so many ways. I suspect it was overlooked because most viewers had no clue about the epic subtleties that made it such an amazing baseball classic. This inning alone had more of them than you'd see in a typical movie. If you see the whole movie, watch the start of this inning when the lights at Yankee Stadium flicker on and the camera pans across the Harlem River to the setting sun in the background. That is a historic baseball camera shot. Any long-time New York baseball fan knows that the tenement buildings in the background are at the location that used to be the old Polo Grounds before the Giants moved to San Francisco in 1958. And there are great little nuances in the game action itself this inning ... like the beaming smile on Mickey Hart's face as the fans shower him with boos after he robbed Birch of a home run, which contrasts with the earlier flashback scene in the movie from several years earlier when the fans in the outfield seats at Fenway Park were joyous while Hart was humiliated after he made a boneheaded play at the wall. And the best subtlety of all was in the airport when Jane Aubrey decides to skip her flight and stay and watch the end of the game ... RIGHT AFTER Vin Scully points out on TV how Billy Chapel's masterpiece was being saved by the heroic efforts of his teammates in the field. For the first time in the move she knew she had been wrong earlier in the day when she told Chapel she was leaving because he didn't need her -- and he was the only one on the field who could be a great ballplayer all by himself without any help from anyone else.
In every ball player’s career, there comes one bad moment when it can go either way- and then every ball player hears that voice, the voice of all voices- the voice of their dad, the first day they put on the glove. “Just you and me, kid-let’s show me what you got”. I had it in a big game, playing right field , bottom of the eight and ahead by a run, two on and two out, scared that it’d get hit to me and I d drop it. All of a sudden I could hear my grandfather’s voice-“don’t take your eye off that ball and you’ll be okay”. Just enough time to deep breathe before a line drive comes right at me, and I see it all the way and catch it clean. The crowd yelled, and I didn’t know whether to cheer or exhale, but I did know to thank the Old Man in my head
I fell in love with Kelly Preston in a movie she was in from the UK with a daughter as well. Then I met a woman who was her to a T. I lost her and my life was never the same and went down hill.
I've used the same technique with every little leaguer I've ever coached who got himself in trouble on the mound...it's just you and your catcher in your own backyard playing catch.
I always wanted to pitch in the majors but my father would let me play little league. I used to throw to a pitch back and only hit the tape time after time oh well opportunity and my dream lost to time.
When i watch this movie, it reminds me ofcoaching my son, ryan, and i think to myself, son you only had to sign one contract, and the song, like to says it all...you threw it all away....words to a son who hates his father
I was about to tell him that. So, all this guy has to do is point his camera at the TV, post the poor quality clip and get the title wrong? Maybe he needs another hobby.
True I suppose. Maybe someday I'll have a chance to see a cricket match with fans who can take me inside the game. Major League Baseball staged a game between the Yankees and Red Sox in London this year. It was kind of a mess but the fans seemed to like it. Maybe you'll have a chance to see a game next year. Cheers.

One of my favorite sports movies…the line from Vin Scully saying “the cathedral that is yankee stadium, belongs to a chapel”…still gives me goosebumps

Great comment, I pitched until I was 22 and this is my favorite baseball movie too

F!!! the reviews, thhis was so epic!!! beutiful 4**** film!!!
I think if Costner's character was not such an uneducated dick, it may have gotten better reviews....
Good movie, kelly preston very pretty too

Well said,I've watched this movie alot, did you notice the loud mouth at the bar also played the coward solider in dance with wolves
Have you read the book? Michael and Jeff Shaara are both awesome writers
It couldn't figure out if it were a guy movie or a chick flick. Supporting cast was weak and Costner does too many athletic hero roles.
I'm not a Dodgers fan, but the addition of Vin Scully's play by play makes the movie special
My old coach Augie Garrido as the Yankees Skipper. Legend!
Voice of gold.
@@jonahmosher3024 hello, sir...What was Augie like?
Vin Scully is the cumbia...
Everyone is a Vin Scully fan
Loved this movie!
Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, For Love of the Game. My favourite "unofficial" trilogy.
Matt Cain will always be the one pitcher who pitched a perfect game for the Giants
I remember it well because I watched every single out
This is such a low key movie I don't understand why the whole thing isn't on YT...as a whole or in pieces.
Vin scully made this film so much better, and it was already great
My brother...it was a true honor to watch him play.
Half the Dads in America looked and acted like his father - FOR REAL ! Better Times 👍

Yep!
"For the Love of the Game" required Hall of Famer Vin Scully. There is no substitute.
Best voice ever.
...I love you Mickey Hart....
I love this movie! Thank you!
I think the best part of these kinds of movies are the names they come up with.
My favorite baseball movie
I came here solely for Vin Scully. RIP to the 🐐
One of my top 5 movies
Great movie
Mickey took a horrible route to that ball
I fell in love with Kelly Preston in a movie she was in from the UK with a daughter as well. Then I met a woman who was her to a T. I lost her and my life was never the same and went down hill.
That look in his eyes....
You cut out the part where Birch tipped his hat on the way to the dugout. What a rip.
Absolutely love that
Agree...that is my favorite part of the movie. Two competitors respecting each other and saying good bye at the same time.
I've used the same technique with every little leaguer I've ever coached who got himself in trouble on the mound...it's just you and your catcher in your own backyard playing catch.
Does it work

Everyone has dreams but unfortunately they do not always come true
Until I threw it all away Bob Dylan
This is the most unique choice of background music
Most perfect games or no hitters have at least 2 great defensive plays
2:04 That’s such a nice shot.
Bull Durham, Tin Cup and this. Costner is a closet athlete and good at every one.
Magnificent Movie

What song is playing when dad talks?
"Threw it All Away" by Dylan

Threw it all away... Bob Dylan
Not a baseball fan, loved it
Only 8 strike outs?
organization. didn't aj burnett throw a no hitter walking like 7 batters
Strike outs are fascist.
Dylan, man Dylan !
The movie is "For Love of the Game," not "For the Love of the Game."
I was about to tell him that. So, all this guy has to do is point his camera at the TV, post the poor quality clip and get the title wrong? Maybe he needs another hobby.
Amazing !!!
At one minute. That wouldn’t happen no manager would do that no player would agree
😢😢😢 Non è giusto 😢
