Another short tutorial on the use of the knife including stabbing angles, defining true DEFENSIVE use of the knife and further discussing other issues around edged weapons.
Refreshing to hear a discussion on the realities on a confrontation. Keep it coming, people need to hear this. I’ve followed you since early 2000s you changed my mindset towards living in a dangerous world. Thanks!
An interesting addition to your defensive guard, which I think was first taught by Paul Vunak, is to simply flick the knife downward as the idiot feeds your knife his flesh, especially if he has a knife. The footwork involves angling and opening the gate, everytime a limb comes in, flick your wrist downward, quickly and the more relaxed the better i.e. the faster you will be.
Another excellent video and discussion. Do you feel you lose power with your thumb on the back? Stabbing would seem to be more problematic with your thumb like that also. Sure knife design would alleviate alot of danger of hand riding. The term defensive use of the knife is where alot get lost. The meaning is lost.
Anyone that wants to be in a "knife fight" is just stupid! Don't matter how good They Think they are....Great analogy ( and mental image) from 3:41-4:04 about " like standing inside a blender with the blades spinning.".... Unfortunately, there are "UA-cam Masters" that think they could come out that blender the same way they went in...( and some will even disarm the blender, lol)
One of the weakness of the sabre grip is that it can be easily knocked off your hand if your grip is not firm enough... The versatility of the sabre grip comes from the loose grip...
I know of a case where two criminals had a knife fight, they stabbed each other over 30 times, both died! No thought of defence, just pure attack rage, fools.
I can't believe I'm just seeing these now...
The mindset and defensive measures / tactics is just outstanding information Kelly - Thank You!

I always remember you being a proponent of the Styers method of holding ground and giving nothing away. That stayed with me. Thanks for sharing
Dave!

This technique is based on the biddle/styers method, why was it thrown out during the war?
Videos are great, but own one double edged knife and you will never use that Sabre grip again."Stab and slash to freedom" line was so funny.
