Thank you, thank you, for making this video. I was trying to help a user with his ScanSnap issue and this really helped with getting everything connect properly.
Thank you. I'm in Japan and you gave me some great help in dealing with everything when I pull it out of the box ... with all the instructions in Japanese! It normally takes me hours if not days to deal with that! I still haven't bought it, but I will thanks to the support on your overview.
I'm stumped after inserting the DVD. The page with the six icons does not show up: rather, I get Computer>DVD RW Drive (E)>ScanSnap. Using Windows Vista. Have loaded and uninstalled four times now. Extremely frustrated. Help, please!
@ Panosab - Yes, it can scan documents as searchable PDF's, but it's a two-step process. First, you scan the document(s), then you convert it to a searchable PDF. You can enable searchable PDF scanning in the "Quick Menu," but it still doesn't scan it directly into that format; it simply expedites the second step. I'd like to find out if there's a way to eliminate that second step; it would be nice if I could just put a dozen documents in the feeder and let it automatically scan them as searchable PDF's. I thought the ScanSnap was a bit of a pain to set up. I thought it would be super user friendly - just open the box and push the On button. But if you don't have a CD-ROM drive, then you''l have to download and install five software programs. I ran into a couple bugs along the way, but I figured them out without too much trouble, and it's working fine now. It's so much faster than my $100 Epson flatbed! Unfortunately, it will still take me a long time to digitize the mountain of documents I've collected over a period of three decades. Scanning's a tedious process. P.S. My tentative plan is to scan EVERYTHING as PDF's as fast as I can. When I'm finished, then I want to make text copies. I'm anxious to find out if there's a way to batch process files in folders inside folders. In other words, can I drag a folder full of other folders full of of PDF's into ScanSnap or Acrobat and transform every PDF to a Microsoft Word file? (I'll then change those to Apple or Dreamweaver files, as I hate everything Microsoft!) Thanks for the video.
PUAL FLAHAN, I'm looking for a very cheap affordable bookscanner. 1.) I'm looking for a book scanner that has an automatic scanning where I can just flip the pages in real time and it will snap the pictures scanning the pages without manually clicking a mouse button or a footswitch to snap is scan, Do you know any book scanner that does this good quality? Most of my College Books are glossy pages very glossy prints and are 300pages to 500 pages. How can I book scan these books really fast without manually clicking a mouse button or using a footswitch. I just want to quickly flip the pages and the bookscanner will snap the pictures scans in real time in very good quality. Do you know what I mean and can this be done? What kind of laser lights does the CZUR bookscanner use compared to other Book Scanners?
Fantastic presentation. Clearly articulated explanation and great simple camera work. I just ordered it and B&H Photo in NYC says its the best too, they sell a lot of them the salesman told me. I love that store. Your great keep up the good work. Bless you. Steve
Excellent, EXCELLENT overview Paul. Your views should be up, way beyond the current 99,000. One small suggestion; it would've been nice if you could've included some very brief snippets (just glances) of the actual ScanSnap (is that correct, what Fuji refers to it as?) application settings such as scan quality, etc (resolution/dpi settings, etc) in otherwise one of the best document technologies reviews we've seen on UA-cam and, as others have commented, on an APPLE!
how is the scanning quality for photos? is this a good one for old photos? i am looking for a good scanner for old photos and dont wanna put a lot of money into something that is only good for that. i would like one that i can use more after that project is complete. thanks for the help
Thanks for your video which is very informative. I have one question. Can the scanner scan wirelessly to a computer, which is not connected to the scanner via USB?
Very well explained. My iX500 has already been installed by my son. How do I connect it to my Samsung 6+Edge? Will I be able to install it by myself. How do I start? Thanks a lot. Mell
Hello Paul, I really like your clear voice presentation and sharp video to match. I just got my ix500 and cannot wait to use it. I got the bundle with the Rack2-Filer Smart v1.0 with Magic Desktop V1.0. There is NO useful documentation included with the scanner for this software and only a few of what I would classify as less than satisfactory tutorials on using the Rac2-Filer software. Are you considering in the very near future doing a comprehensive UTube tutorial on this software? I would really appreciate it if you would.... Thank you, DSD
Trying to get my brand new iX500 set up. Your video was just what I needed. Do you have others that detain different things that can be done with this scanner (set up folders, arrange business cards, etc)
Jan Hickerson Unfortunately I do not but I can look into making some videos when I get some free time. Thank you so much for watching and commenting, I really appreciate your support!
Hello I live in Canada and just acquired the ix500 to be able to scan receipts for tax purposes. sadly I found out that the scansnap receipt software is only able to take and ocr only one tax :( here in Canada we have two taxes GST 5% and PST 8%. If there is a way to have both taxes scan and ocr will love to know how to do it.
I had high hopes for this video but geez, you spent very detailed time going over each side of the box and how the cord fits together and nothing but a small inset pic on actual scanning set up and the mechanics of managing the scanned materials such as receipts. How does it help me manage the receipts into a usable data set? Opening the box and putting the cord together was hardly the reason I resorted to UA-cam.
This video was a review, not a tutorial on how to tell you how to manage your documents. I show how to set the device up and how to use the basics. How you manage your documents is up to the user, not me. Thank you for watching and commenting, I really appreciate the support.
Five years have passed since you made this UA-cam video on the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500. The Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 is still being sold today. It’s unusual that a technology product model is still being sold after five years. After five years, are there any competitive brands and models that would be a better choice than the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500? Or, has Fujitsu locked in the automatic document scanner product line with the iX500 model after five years? How has the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 held up after five years of use? Has the software been updated in the past five years? There have been many Apple updates since the now very old iPhone 5! It seems strange that the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 model is still being sold after 5 years!
What if I don't have any computer at home, can it directly send the scanned document by e-mail? In other words, what does the interface on the scanner itself allow to ?
Please disregard the previous request. Downloaded ScanSnap software successfully, enabled wireless, unit turned on, but will not scan. When I click on Snap Manager, have Error message "You do not have a write authority for the installation folder. Marke the selected folder writable." Please advise. Thank you.
Hi, thanks for the video. It was very useful. Quick question. I installed everything and the software works well, but i have not bern able to scan a single page because after pushing the scan button- immediately a paper jammed box appears. The scan did not try to move the page at all. I tried as well with the feeder the same. I took put the white protection thingy but do you have any suggestion what can be? Thanks
Hi Paul, thank you for that great introduction. I've question. Is it possible to set up the ix500 to scan to a network shared-folder, without any additional software running on a computer?
Would you be able to say whether the selected quality affects scanning speed? Eg: is the pages-per-minute the same on 600dpi colour as at lower quality? Thanks!
I tried out setting my image quality to its highest as well as setting my compression rate to its lowest and the scanning speed did not change. I hope this helps.
Hi, thank you for that great introduction video. Is it possible to set up the ix500 to scan to a network shared-folder, without any additional software running on a computer?. Find the driver and software support from scansnapdriver.com/fujitsu-scansnap-ix500-driver/
Worst equipment, I just buy this 2 months ago and now the USB communication doesn't work cuz the processor is over short circuit. 🤦🏽♂️ never buy Fujitsu
Thank you, thank you, for making this video. I was trying to help a user with his ScanSnap issue and this really helped with getting everything connect properly.
Once I saw that he described the box thoroughly, I knew this would be a good and detailed video.

That's great to hear. I'm glad my video was helpful. Thank you for watching and commenting, I really appreciate the support.
I just bought a ScanSnap and I'll be getting it in a couple days. Than you for the video, this does help with the hardware and software setup.
Great presentation Paul, and it is just as applicable today Feb 14 2019 as it was 6 years ago.
Once you scan your documents you should get a popup on your laptop that will allow you to send that document to.
YOU'RE awesome for doing this video ... it still helped me today ... thank you ...

I'm not near my scanner at the moment but I can scan a picture to see how it performs and I'll get back with you.

The best tutorial I've experienced.
Why do you think we need to know what dialog appears on the box or the color of the device?
There isn't an interface on the scanner. It scans either to a mobile phone or a computer.
still wondering about OCR .. do you have another video on explaining that ? thanks
Fantastic presentation. Clearly articulated explanation and great simple camera work.

9:20 Can I skip the registration? If not, does I have to register with my real name etc.
Good Day, this is a nice review. Can this scan an A3 size sheet?

Hey dude, haven't you noticed the ton of bugs? I'm just wondering.
Great job. Thanks!
Will it scan to Pages or Numbers on my Mac?
Can you send your files to your computers O: Drive ?
do the Fujisu scanners double as a printer or are they scanners only? thx
I'm sure they are just scanners.
This iX500 is only a scanner by the way. Thank you for watching and commenting, I really appreciate your support!
You're standing there looking at it, and you completely blow off the bundled sw like it's dust on the box.

Have you removed all the tape & travel protection from the scanner ? Sounds like there is still some tape somewhere stopping the rollers from turning.
Hi Paul, thank you for that great introduction.
I've question. Is it possible to set up the ix500 to scan to a network shared-folder, without any additional software running on a computer?
I don't believe so without having any additional software running. I'm not 100% sure but with my experience I haven't come across this option.
thanks for your responding… =)
David Kauder Anytime! Thank you for watching and commenting, I really appreciate your support!

where you able to look into this?
Thank you Kaheem for clearing that up for me.
Can it can documents as searchable pdf's?
Well explained and clear. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
Thank you so much for the compliments and your support.
the ix500 doesnt come with a twain or WIA driver, its totally useless with all other products unless you use their software
Does anyone know if this scanner scans id cards or similar items?
Yes it can.
Can this scan photos?
How can combine pdf files on scan snap
I'm not 100% sure. I can look into it.

Can any of the scansnap's transfer (x1500) scans via wifi or as a network scanner "without" connecting directly to the computer?
does it scan pdfs to a usb memory device?
Yes it can.
