I'm a Mopar guy but man oh man is that a gorgeous car. I love the 68-70 Oldsmobile 442's...particularly the 70 W30. The Olds 442 or Buick GS/GSX was the way to go in those days if you wanted a car that was very fast but also very classy and very comfortable to drive and ride in. In my opinion Mopar built the best high performance drivelines(engine, trans, rear end) but GM cars had the best overall build quality and styling in those days. Ford was very successful in basically every type of racing but they always seemed to be a little behind Mopar and GM in those days as far as street performance went. Ford didn't even really come out with a potent mid size muscle car package until 1969...the Fairlane Cobra and Mercury Cyclone CJ. The earlier 427 Fairlane/Comet was more of a race car than a muscle car

Was my 1st car, got it in '73 when I was 15 from my brother in-law. (only because mom wouldn't let me buy the '69 Baldwin Motion Z/28 from my older brother's friend down the street. But that's another story.) '68 4-4-2 convertible. 400ci, Muncie M22 rockcrusher, Hurst shifter, 3.42 posi rear, power sapping nothing. Raced an awful lot on the hallowed drag-racing streets of Detroit area. As everyone says: wish I hadn't sold it.

That was my first car. I think I sold way back for around 1200 bucks. Who knew.

My favorite muscle car of all time. 1968 Olds 4-4-2 W-30. 4 spd, 400 cubes, dual exhaust, ram air. Would upgrade to 455 stroker.

I love this car but would like to make an Olds DRCE aluminum into a 2 stroke and drop it in. GM had great 2 stroke technology and just have to apply it back then and a 2 stroke olds would have been something else!

I bought 1968 4-4-2 new in July 1968 ($3000) and drove it until January 1970. It had 65,000 miles on it when I was hit by a trailer truck driving in the breakdown lane doing 60 mph. I had pulled over to examine a road map with the blinkers flashing. He hit me dead on and the rear seat was moved up tight to the front seat. The trunk was pushed into the space where the back seat was completely flat. The fire department had to cut me out of the car, but because I had the two seat belts on, I emerged without a scratch--only a terrible headache and aching back. My lawyer got me enough money to buy a 1970 Mercedes Benz 280 SL new.

I remember when Popular Hot Rodding took a '68 442 and just used bolt ons and got it to run high 12's.
