  • Instead of the usual snow, we got A LOT of ice that we need to deal with. Early February usually brings us snow and cold temps. But a recent warm up brought us lots of freezing rain and sleet on top of the ice we already had. While there was only a couple of inches of this, we needed to remove it to try and keep the buildup on the 2 miles of road as little as possible. So while it may not seem like I'm pushing much, it is critical to plow and remove what I can while I can. So join along and see how it goes plowing 2 miles of ice.

Thumbed up. I'd consider squishing the weatherstripping better in Elvis' passenger side corner.

With all the holes in the floor, the weather-stripping is the least of my worries. But thanks for watching and the comment! Take care!

As a girl from Arizona learned from tic toc if you flip the ice scraper over you can use the bumps on the top to scar the ice and it scrape a bit easier for ya. Hope everyone stays warm ❤️

Get a small lawn tracktor. electric ice melt speader that you can adapt to the back of your truck use smaller bags of ice melt blend only on your bad spots you will be surprised at how well you will get it clear

I have a small tractor and several ATVs. I also have a spreader for the back that I spread wood and coal ashes. There is no way I could afford the amount of salt required to melt the ice off of 2 miles of road. Just not practical. Thanks for watching!

Gotcha on the really bad. Love the truck man I've mostly had 4 2500 HDchevy trucks over the last 20 years I picked up a 2019 5500 HD with a fisher 8 11 extenda plow a few years ago and used it this year's for residential plowing after my regular truck let me down. It worked great. I wish I could get it in gas to get away from the diesel emissions crap but its not offered anymore 😕

@@arthurnewman3483 I wish my truck was diesel, but not with all that emissions crap either. Someday I will have to upgrade. But hopefully this trucks lasts a few more years.

Turn the ice scrapper around to the side with the ridges and then flip It back over to the blade

@@zachbarlow410 We can't change the weather, so either we get grumpy everytime it snows and gets cold, or we find ways to enjoy it and make the best of it. We chose to find joy and enjoy the winter. We've found that through doing that, we actually enjoy winter more than summer.

Hi plow gravel in my driveway and other peoples homes. Using my 59 CJ five, and a 6 foot plow. For gravel, what I did was I cut a length of black PVC higher pressure pipe. Cut it lengthwise, and hammer it onto the blade of my plow. This essentially allows the weight of the plow to sink down, but the plastic pipe allows the plow to float over the gravel, without causing driveway damage.
If you look on UA-cam for Darling Dorris CJ five, I posted a few videos from December of the projects I did. The PVC pipe really works very well. Give it a try

I think that's a good idea for lighter plows. But mine weighs close to a ton. So I'm not sure if would hold up as well. And I want that sharp cutting edge to cut down to through the ice. Seems to work well for you, though. Thanks for watching!

Use 70 to 91% rubbing alcohol to remove ice off of the windshield next time.

suggestion would be get compact tractor but a scrapper blade on the back so you would be able to apply greater down force to scrap the ice off or put an ice grade blade on it where it score the ice up more better then go back over with a plow or scrapper on a tractor. and use road salt or get some sugar beet juice that might help to break up the ice or at least loosen it up. but good luck

    • @NorthForkHollow

I've got a tractor. Check my other videos to see that. But most 3 pt hitches don't put down pressure on the implements. They only have the weight of the attachment causing the down pressure, which is very little. I have the same thing with my plow, but it weighs A LOT more than a tractor blade. I agree that something to scratch the ice would be better. I'm thinking of ideas for that. I don't have a way or desire to spread that much salt/beet juice. Just too costly. Thanks for watching!

The snow actually works as insulation. That's why the ice is soft underneath. Once the snow is removed that's when you can get into trouble. You should consider getting a sanding rig. After you plow put the sand to it. Once you "dirty" up the ice and hard packed snow you'll get traction. I'm guessing your truck has a 366 ci big block. Do you have a 2 speed rear? That is an awesome truck.

    • @NorthForkHollow
      @NorthForkHollow  2 роки тому

Yes, it does seem to act like insulation. I think that's what I was trying to get at. I have a spreader for the back of the truck. But I don't have any place dry to keep the truck and prevent the sand or gravel from freezing right now. Hopefully soon. The truck has a 427 big block. The rear is a single speed rear, but it does have a 2 speed transfer case. Being AWD, you need to control the speed at the transfer case, not the axles. Thanks for watching!

There was a FD that had one EXACTLY like that rig just a lil longer it was a brush truck with 500 gal water 100 gal foam, but had a Cat Diesel, may been a engine swap but it had a Allison Automatic. It went good enough that you'd go in places it probably shouldn't be, that's a cool old truck.

I'm still not sure. I've just been using it and after it warms up a bit, it seems fine. I'm leaning towards a leak or air getting in somewhere and the cold, thick oil takes some time to warm up and push through the system. I'm keep my eyes on it though.
