- Review and real-world testing in the woods. Can I use this knife & ferro rod to gather and prepare materials to start a fire? It's winter and everything is covered with snow and wet.

I'm happy to hear it. But how are my videos helping you?
@@John-w9m8d Thank you so much my brother in Christ💌
@@DougShoeBushcraft about how when it gets to a certain temperature how not to lay on the cold surface without any blankets etc. because the groundWould suck the heat right out of your body, because I live in Florida and the coldest it gets is like 35°C in the town and country woods in Tampa, kind of used to that kind of weather down here, but it does affect me though wake up paralyze feet arms legs everything so I grab a tarp from Walmart it helps a lot the ground doesn’t suck the heat out of my body anymore also. you are risking your life to show people what real homeless people go through in life on a daily basis with no permanent shelter and that really eases my pain mentally emotionally my brother🫀

my new theme song!
What a beautiful knife and great review...God bless Doug❤
A very nice knife & another excellent review! Beyond the budget of many bush crafters. But even sharper is God's Word which is sharper than a 2-edged sword! To God be the glory!
Amen! God bless
Thanks again for the vids Doug!!!
I always enjoy your videos. Great info. on the advantages of a flat grind. Shared scripture is always a blessing!
Nice Campfire.
Hello from Brunswick, Maine, US...
Hi Robert
Have you considered doing a knife sharpening video?
Nice knife I usually don't watch holtzman reviews but ill watch yours brother
hearty and tall flat grind is nice
I agree with you, I would rather have a full flat grind. I cut meat for 15 years and every survival knife I favor has a full or 3/4 flat. I prefer the full flat though. And at least a 6 inch blade. I carry pocket knives with a 4 inch blade. But in all the years of cutting meat I used a 6 inch blade and am most comfortable with them.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
You rock, Doug Shoe!
thank you
Good looking knife and review Doug, thanks for sharing YAH bless brother !
God bless you, too, Michael
Nice review Doug. Take care😊
Wow, Thats Definitely a Work Horse of a knife. Love how it comes w everything you need. Did you say price ? Probably out of my league. Thank you my friend. Everybody Have a Blessed Day 🙏🙏

I think it's 119.95 on their website now. holtzmansurvival.com/products/the-wathog-d2-steel-bushcraft-survival-knife-gift-set-brown
I like that knife. I have one of their neck knifes, good company. I like the ninety degree spine on my knifes.
I'd like to try one of their neck knives some time
I'm a old man who needs your help . All I carry is a haversack and I need a staff to walk . So what do I need and don't don't need when I hike ?
Are there any really good folding knives with like a belt clip that you would recommend? Are you have done a demonstration with
I don't have any knives like that to recommend. Sorry. There was a period of time that I carried a folding knife with a pocket clip every day. But that was many years ago. Also during that time it was inexpensive pocket knives. The kind of work I was doing made them get worn out or damaged quickly, so I didn't want to spend a lot. These days my EDC is a Swiss Army Knife (or similar pocket knife) and a fixed blade.
where is this river?? Alan
This looks like a nice kit! 👍
Do you plan on reviewing the budget oriented BPS Knives Adventurer?
I sent BPS Knives and email just now, asking them if they want me to film a test and review
@@DougShoeBushcraft Thanks Doug I enjoy your real world testing and your opinion 👍
Is there any really good folding knives that you would recommend or that you have done a promotional on?
I like the Victorinox "Tinker" (Swiss Army Knife) ua-cam.com/video/bPKHoTIjQW4/v-deo.htmlsi=byuZ1xXB6DKUsyPB
I Carry the Winkler Blue Ridge Hunter in sculpted Micarda
nice. I believe those are also full flat grind
@@DougShoeBushcraft that's a Big 10-4 but in my opinion they are way to expensive but it's very good steel and feels great in the hand. Goes threw wood like a woodchuck lol
I bought one of the Ozark machetes with the fire, starter, feral rod. Do you have to scratch all of the black off of that to make it work to produce sparks
If your Ozark trail fire starter (that came with their machete) is the same as mine, then it is not only a ferro rod. At first glance it looks like a fat ferro rod since it is cylindrical. However, it is actually a magnesium block with a thin (skinny) ferro rod attached. You scrape magnesium shavings into your tinder. Then you throw sparks from the ferro rod onto the magnesium shavings. They burn very hot so starting a fire is a lot easier with them. Yes, you do have to remove the black protective coating from the ferro rod part of the fire starter. I filmed a survival challenge video using that Ozark Trail machete and fire starter as my gear. At the end of the video, I go over the fire starter. ua-cam.com/video/aOADdHFCzVs/v-deo.htmlsi=uJvMeCAFTIOYgu2-&t=1872 In the middle of the video, I use the machete to start a camp fire.
So does that mean yes?
@@darrelmoore7433 Yes, you do have to remove the black protective coating from the ferro rod part of the fire starter.
@@DougShoeBushcraft thank you god bless! Looking forward to your next video. Be safe.
Does anyone know the width of the blade??
I'd say (measuring with a ruler) 1 5/8 inches wide blade. 0.16 inch thick
Thank you bro. Keep up the good work. New sub
Doug, who's a warthog?😂
me
you don't do much bushcraft do you
???
seems it's all review of bushcraft tools not much really using them just sayen man 😎😎😎😘
@@jamesdude4220 There is bushcraft in this video- I use the featured knife to gather and process materials and start a fire. I'm recently back from a Bushcraft / Solo Survival Challenge. ua-cam.com/video/IjaNUBgLVDs/v-deo.htmlsi=xiBRsq7Q3lzBuE99 Etc. There's plenty of bushcraft on the channel. If personally you don't like product reviews, that's fine.
