When I was a child I did have holidays in Jaywick in the 70s and 80s but in more recent years whenever i have returned to that area I have only really gone to Jaywick twice and I was shocked at how it looked. Shattered childhood memories and not somewhere I would want to go back to.
I also went to jaywick for family holidays, last time was 1976, have very happy memories. Last time I was there it was a day trip and I was shocked at the change. Can remember my dad grandad and uncles drinking at the three jays, sheldrake and the never say die.
If every tenant cleared up round their own property it would make a start to bring this town back to where it was at the start.Developers do not build slum areas, these are made by the residents. Dave Williams
50 years ago, my working class family went on holiday to Jaywick sands. I can remember the name of the place we stayed, it was called " Sunbeam Ave" we used to hire a four wheeled bike, with 2 people side - by - side. I loved it!!!. My dad, mum would go to the club during the day, and we would play games at night...the toilets were outside. I'll never forget Jaywick. How sad to see it all go...R.I.P
In 2020 and 2021 I was delivering mobility scooters sold online for a living all over the UK. I had the unfortunate job of delivering right in the heart of the shanty town twice. It is every bit as bad as the media states and I was getting a lot of attention being in a relatively new hire van. It didn't help that the customer handed me £100 cash in broad daylight to pay for his battery upgrade with pretty much half the street watching out there window. As I was taking my tools back to the van on the main road near at the sea front after making some adjustments there was a gang coming my way making a lot of noise with large dogs. I didn't bother packing things away, I jumped straight in the van and got out of there. After going around a couple of corners I stopped and sorted things out and took the opportunity to get a few pics on my phone. If I go back there it will be in a rusty MK4 Golf or a rat van to fit in with the population. I still show off the pictures and talk about the place to this day. I might have been somewhere worse but I can't remember where.
I believe you can squarely put the blame on TDC for the miss givings of Brooklands. I also feel this incessant need to lump Jaywick with Brooklands courses confusion and is to blame for some of the problems. Had TDC completely sepperated the needs of Jaywick and Brooklands, I think we would have had a different outcome and the money to deal with the problems in the 70s and 80s. People don't seem to remember or report the fact that TDC offered people that owned plots during the 70s in Brooklands £50 a plot and the Jaywick resident association rejected the offer, which quite frankly was insulting as the plots started at £50 in the 30s. After that, the TDC decided to put mains sewage into Brooklands and told residences to bring their homes up to building codes for the time. An almost impossible task as these were simple 2 room buildings for the use of holiday homes. The question should be, what can the TDC do now to recompense the poor decision-making of the 70s and 80s. I believe they should find every owner of every plot and work out who owns what and sort out the bad landlords by enforcing the building code onto them. When they can't, compulsory purchase them. All abandoned plots owners should be giving the same choice. All owners that live in their own homes, should be helped with grants. Once the wheat from the chaff has been sorted out. Clean out all the empty plots and rebuild council housing on them, with a new mix of commercial properties to rent. Where their is commerce, there is always hope.
It desperately needs investment and a decent transportation. . . And modern homes. Once this change happens everyone and their mother will want to live there.
From 1950 to 1980 best holidays ever even with lack of water laid on and outside toilets …someone benefits from this deprivation now as then, and yet the beach has been improved beyond imagination…..sad disgusting neglect .
Don't look that deprived to me! They have Cars , fences and Caravans, you wanna see central Bournemouth where I live. Mind you it's a ' Blue rinse' Tory' string hold and they don't like to publicize the under class 🙄
Just to put you right. At around 40 seconds you say: "To fully appreciate the level of 'depravity' in this town..." This is entirely the wrong noun. The correct noun you are needing is 'Deprivation'.
Ha ha.. Jaywick in Clacton on Sea in Essex near Colchester I moved from Clacton on Sea to Birmingham 6 months ago, believe me you don't want to be walking around Jawick by yourself especially at night time you'll get Robbed. I'm a black guy and I had to watch my back around there .. jaywick is full of crack and heroine addict's and the council put people there who are anti social and caused trouble in areas the council relocated them from. But Jawick is right on the beach so fill your boots 😂 PS Clacton on Sea locally is call Cracton because of the crack cocaine epidemic there
Why not attract British descendants in foreign lands subjected to discrimination, such as South Africa, to sort this place out. See what Elon Musk has done to the WORLD!

Gypsies??
People travel in to Jaywick and leave rubbish then travel out again.
Tidily poor.

Maybe if you had a friend you could bore them with your pointless memories rather than us.
@portrait day of the w@nk for you .
Why the need to be nasty?
@@londonblade7740 Not nasty. Everything dies!!!
London blade I'm sticking up for the guy who made the original comment

thanks , I was thinking to buy a house there.
@@lorenzom7237 well they are cheap..... but they are not 'really' houses, mostly they look like poorly painted sheds.
@@grahampearce2405 Thanks Graham 😀
Ideal location for a pleasant family getaway. The unique architecture boasts sea views like no other. What's not to like?
0:40 "The level of depravity in this town". Is it _that_ bad, or was 'deprivation' meant?
Yes, I clocked that 😁

The council re tarmacked the whole area, so now the roads look nice, but it was the equivalent of putting makeup on a pig.

The Brooklands end of Jaywick has always been the worst but Jaywick Village is and has always been very good
Jaywick does have a nice quiet beach and I'm sure the residents enjoy it.
It also has a good community.
Was this video written by a fucking AI?
Oh, you guys made a separate video for this third-world like town...
Danny sloggit is going to sort it out .
People travel into Jaywick and then travel out again leaving rubbish which is not cleared up .
There's no such thing as a poor area, only poor people.
Gonna be under water in twenty years.
I love it
Years of a Tory government and where has all the money gone, Housing problems, NHs in trouble, food banks. Its not just jaywick its the whole country.
I wouldn’t bother right dump
There is no better beach than Jaywick? Is he taking the piss?🤣 I’m sure it’s a nice beach but to claim it’s the best in the world is just dense.
Please provide a link to a dark tour of Jaywick. I shall be on holiday in the UK for three weeks in October and would love to see it.

I have had some good times in Jaywick during the summer months.
The poorer we get the more immigrant and fortuneseekers will get !
This is not an immigrant area, pretty much 100% white and british.

It's not that bad. I'll live there.
I see that the beach bar does not appear to sell beer... - mine will....
I very nearly moved there back in 2010; - when I do move there I will build a few places on the land which I take ownership of and make a few bob....
