Ain't nothing like a good piece of hedge . Thanks to the Osage for sharing and spreading it , mostly against their wishes but it's part of the process !
The farmers of the 30s and 40s are mostly to thank for the abundance of osage across the midwest.. I'm glad they needed it for fences now we have an endless supply!!
There are bowyers and there are BOWYERS, and you sir are the MASTER. I have watched all your videos I can find many times over, never tire of them fantastic craftmanship. What more can be said! ENJOY, ENJOY!!!
The health and safety fairies would have a field day with you using those big ol sharp tools like that with no body armor on. You Sir are a truly skilled man. What a great piece of workmanship🙏🏆
Beautiful video! Love the knee shot, great sense of humor Clay, like in that other video where you´re burning through wood with the dull chop saw and next thing breaking the handle off the axe. Priceless! AND top notch content. I´m addicted, keep em coming...
Great vid. One of the best silent ish I've seen. But I like them more with explanation and bs. Keep em comin bud. Great vids and fun things to play with for sure.
The way you rip thru that Osage bro is awesome to watch! A true master at work , how about going straight from roughing out to bracing the bow , leaving floor tillering for us mortals Hey Clay? Lol thanks for sharing mate
Thanks for sharing your life, time, art, skills and patience. That's a joy to accomplish and build something by your own hands, instead of just buy it...
I like the way you cut in to the "right spot"(as judged by your eye) accurately but with a bit of force but the rest of the shave your gentle so as not to make an error. I'm sure this saves time and energy . You have the technique down nice to see someone who cares enough to teach
Clay finally does asmr! It's a dream come true. Or rather it would be be if he was also whispering over it lol. I'll accept youre no talking asmr for now though
Why wait, man! Clay makes it look both easy and magical, but if you have a few tools around, and so much as a thicket of volunteer trees anywhere around you are brave enough to cut, you can make a hell of a bow. I've "known" Clay for years just on online archery and bowmaking forums, and he is a master, and Osage orange is THE wood......bit I've made over a hundred and only two were osage. The rest were every other wood under the sun: elm, ash, mulberry, chokecherry, maple, plum, locust, hickory, etc.. a 3" diameter, straight little tree grown in the shade, up to your nose, with small knots only, and ypu can make a bow in a couple weeks! A machete or hatchet, a rasp, a scraper, maybe a little plane, some sandpaper. A couple clamps, a 2x4, and a stove-top, and you got this....
Great video! I hope that ASMR videos increase your views as much as I heard they do! Sometimes I play them when when trying to sleep. If they’re popular enough you may want to start another channel for ASMR versions of your videos.
Amazing Clay. You sure do make it look easy. How do You decide what side to start taking wood off? Next time can you show the grain and what it means to chase a ring? Thanks.
I’m new to your channel and just wanted to say thanks for the informative content. I’m feeling motivated to break out my draw knife and try my hand at making one of these bows. I’m gonna have to try it w/ mesquite though. Besides live oak, it’s the only hardwood we have here in south Texas.
I have an old solid fiberglass 45 pound Ben Pearson recurve with a twisted limb. May use this video idea to use heat (hair dryer maybe?) and notched board to straighten back out.
Great video, I am brand new to archery and I want to thank you for your videos I have only 3 months under my belt, I absolutely love it, because of you I can I have learned so much, do you sell recurve bow’s , or can you suggest a good recurve for me to start getting serious in archery, again thanks for all your help in the videos
Hi Clay, I'm not sure how to go about it I've looked know your website to see if you have any self bows for sale ? I'm absolutely in love with the way you craft your recurves especially the snakey style osage with recurve tips.. I would attempt a build along if there was any good bow woods here.. we do have pacific yew but finding a good tree here in Nelson B.C is like finding the unicorn 🦄... they are all knotty and twisted beyond repair plus I don't have the space to season staves. Myself, wife and three little girls are all into archery now. And with the prices of meat and everything as crazy as it is I've decided to start trad hunting to provide food for the family.. long story short I'd really love to start acquiring game and would like to do it the way you do and eith one of your beautiful bows...
I've done some posts over on instagram about the two piece bows. There's also a several part series over on patreon. I've taken elk, deer, and hogs with them. When they're put together they just feel and shoot like a one piece.
I have a 55 inch hickory stave I cut 3 days ago and it has a natural bend in it that I am going to use as the back side. Toward one end about a foot from where the string knock will be the wood is bending more toward the belly side. Should I straighten that limb out before I heat harden the entire stave? Could I do this while heat drying /rapid drying in the same way Thad has done in his videos? I can send a picture if it will help explain.
Let's see ya make one that goes "crack" when you shoot the fifth or sixth arrow, in silence. I had a real pretty white ash bow do just that to me and it was not ASMR. My dog ran into the woods, I assume when I was emptying my .380 into the dirt around the bow on the ground, didn't hit it once. She didn't come back until she smelled smoke and heard the Grateful Dead playing, bout and hour later.😆
I don’t think I’ve seen you bend the recurve ends before. Do you soak or steam it or use wet rags and do you keep it hot? Do you have a video describing the bending process?
I have noticed that some draw knives have a flat blade and some are curved what does each ones purpose serve? I have a flat one and have not found a curved one yet might try to make my own
I have been building bows for 25 years, and I learned so much from your video. You sir, are a master bowyer for certain.
Thank you
Thanks for not playing any music👌👍
Was perfect without.
No words needed. The skill and precision speak for themselves. Well done sir, I highly enjoyed this video.
Thanks much
I’ve watched so many of your videos, I could almost hear you explaining the process. Beautifully done Clay!
Thanks Steve

Beautiful build! Very nice, I like the knot incorporated into the handle. 👍🏻
One of the coolest videos this week!
Thanks for always making new content....much love from Massachusetts
DAYUM ! You make it look easy , hope to take a class with you someday . Be proud
The health and safety fairies would have a field day with you using those big ol sharp tools like that with no body armor on. You Sir are a truly skilled man. What a great piece of workmanship🙏🏆
I was thinking the same thing, they freak out any time you cut towards yourself, even when that very tool is designed that way
Dang, that was a real pleasure to watch and listen.

Yes . There was something about this though that really made some information sink in. great teaching video
I was super curious about what was going to become of that knot! Wonderful craftsmanship and a pleasure to watch
Thanks much
Thanks for sharing the art of bow making and more .
Very nice bow, great video style
Shut up and do stuff, just how i like it. Nice work Clay. You're an inspiration and a great man. keep making content ya beaut
Very well done, loved the camera angles really added interest
So beautifully made....BOW and VIDEO. The slow mos are so calming. Thanks mate
Sweet fast build.

What an inspirational and informative video. I will use what you’ve shared here to do my next build!
Thanks for sharing.
Best one yet.
Thats that production value bub
Ahhh… osage orange such a beautiful wood!
Bad ass love it!
Thanks for sharing your life, time, art, skills and patience. That's a joy to accomplish and build something by your own hands, instead of just buy it...
I liked the shot of the camera mounted on the draw knife. Nice work on the video and the bow!
thanks
That was great, I could watch Osage being carved all day.
Pretty little bow! Answered my question about twisting and aligning limbs. Thanks!
This channel is awesome!

the shavings look like a perfect fire starter!
They are!
may be an asmr vid, but the sound of wood shaving is like sweet music to my ears.
It’s very peaceful. Whether he’s talking or not
Great video Clay.
I never seen that done before- its cool how that heat gun makes the wood bend so easy!
Thanks Clay!
Beautifully crafted bow, sir.
You make it look so easy! Great stuff Clay!

Love the shape of this one.
Loved watching you and your work!
Beautiful
another great video thank you! bow looked awesome
Now here’s some asmr I can actually get into!
You're getting me itching to buy another stave.😊
Love it!
An Awesome video! I’ve been contemplating the stave I have in the joists, it may be time. Thanks for all of the great videos you put out. Tremendous
Glad it was helpful!
@@clayhayeshunter Why not steam and then bend?
I love these build videos. You're becoming a master. 👍
For a man of few words, you said a lot on this video
Awesome video your craft is insane would love to try my hand at that one day

You dog! Got an arrow window naturally! This inspired my cutting a Service berry stave that will have the same feature!
Ha ha.
Cool 👍😎👍
Awesome job

Buen lazo maestro!!🏹👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽
Nice
Id love to buy one of clays bows, just a handmade bow made with care and badassery
Man, that's some skill right there!
Those are gorgeous limb tips, but I would be afraid of them with my 32" draw. But really like this bow,me want!
Great video ! I would love to own one of your bows I wish you sold them
Amazing Clay. You sure do make it look easy. How do You decide what side to start taking wood off? Next time can you show the grain and what it means to chase a ring? Thanks.
Sick
nice

Live oak might work well. Never tried it or mesquite
@@clayhayeshunter thanks!

Just grab the tip and twist
You mean with or without heating it?
Dang clay that's a nice one.

Hilarious shot of your knee, and an absolutely awesome video! Nice work!
Sorry if someone asked already, what draw weight did you end up with?
This one is in the mid 50s
I love the video. Whish you would have spoke thru it explaining what and how you were doing it
There are other videos where I explain it all in detail.

I see you reflexed the tips on this bow before tillering. Is that how you usually do it or do you usually reflex the tips after tillering?
I usually bend thr tips after floor tillering but before final tillering
I can make rainbows. All I need is a pressure washer and sunshine
😆
What’s that stand you use to hold your wood in when you rip through it with the draw knife?
Clay could you showcase your takedown Osage? What do you like/ dislike. Have you taken big game with it?

Makes me wanna go out and cut a branch down and carve it in my shed, I did make my own guitar last year that didn't end well however 🤔
😁
Muy lindo arco

Haha 😂 sorry buddy. That’s part of the process but that’s a funny visual of someone out there shooting a pistol at their bow that blew up
Thanks for your video!
BTW what wood do you use for making bows?
This is Osage orange
👌👌
Where did you get the form jig? I’d make one but unsure on proper angle and dimensions of it
Incredible.
How many humans do this today?
1% er
Proud your an American Clay. 🇺🇸
Are there certain woods that do not require chasing a ring on? Hickory, Osage, Yew, etc?
You me and my dad are the only people
I know who knows to ride the bevel on the draw knife
I don’t think I’ve seen you bend the recurve ends before. Do you soak or steam it or use wet rags and do you keep it hot? Do you have a video describing the bending process?
Lots of detailed vids on Patreon
You just have it in the Blut, Clay... 😄 👍🏻
what type of wood did you use
This was great! Subbed amd liked.Looking foreward to learn from you Can you tell me what kind of workbench this is?
Check out stavemaster.com
I have one more question where did you get the wood do you have a link or did you chop it yourself
I cut it myself. I'll have a new video up about it soon.
Awesome!! How long did it take you to built the recurve??
I built this one over several days but you could do it in an afternoon with a clean stave.
Cool video. What's that tool called that you did the majority of the work with, that blade with the 90 degree handles?
That’s a draw knife
@@clayhayeshunter thanks for answering.
hello what is the name of this device for planing raw wood that stands with both hands thank you good day
How much watt Heating Gun is required
I have noticed that some draw knives have a flat blade and some are curved what does each ones purpose serve? I have a flat one and have not found a curved one yet might try to make my own
What do you call that bench vice thing??
What does putting the bow on the wall and pulling the string with a pulley accomplish? ( am not a bow hunter)
It allows you to see how the bow bends so you can look for imbalances
Is the wood seasoned? If so how long do you usually let it season for?
This stave was very old. Cut in 1999
