People are identifying themselves as inhuman identities like furries, therians, and otherkin. If you don't know what any of those words mean, neither do I. So I saw an 8 year old girl jumping around Chinatown in London at the weekend, she had a tail and a mask and was pretending to be a fox. However she was being videoed by an adult hoping it was a family member, and she was being watched by grown up men who were taking photos. A little girl with her backside in the air and a tail being watched by adults, made me feel sick to my stomach.

To clear some stuff up, therians don't necessarily believe that they are only an animal, in can be believing you had a past life as an animal, sometimes "shift" to a non-human creature, there are other beliefs you may have as a therian or otherkin, but you do not need to have all or even more than one. As you see in many of the videos, they are doing an exercise known as quadrobics, this exercise is normally associated with therianthropy, but yet again is not required in order to be a therian, but most therians do do this in order to feel more connected to their animalistic side. Quadrobics is also a valid sport and not everyone that does quadrobics is necessarily a therian. being a therian/therianthropy is not a choice nor a mental illness, it is just a personal belief (yet again not a choice) that you are connected to a animal/have a more animalistic side.

As someone who has been a therian for much longer than tiktok and youtube and social media; I am a therian based on very vivid repeating dreams I've had since I was a kid. I am a Christian as well, and my connection with my animal and God are close in a way, same with how I express my art.

When my sister and I were kids, she would randomly act like a cat. I was younger than her and it would always freak me out. Sometimes I would PRETEND to be a wolf. We out grew it, because it was a GAME that we would PLAY AS KIDS!

As a child, (mainly because of the The Kane Chronicles, Spirit Animals series, and the Warior cats books that I was using to learn English), I always liked cats and even tried to mimic some of the behaviors. However, that does not mean that I am a cat or wild feline. I just like the idea of hanging out with them to study their behaviors. Apparently this is how I managed to accidentally lead several stray cats into the house when I was twelve.

I had a friend like this in elementary school. She would wear cat ears and hiss and scratch people.
We all read the warrior cat books and each had our own “cat persona”. It was fun to me! I always had an active mind and childish role play seemed harmless.
Once we got to middle school, her and my other friends joined the art classes and created their own fursonas. I chose band, and we grew apart.
8 years later, and I believe she is now transitioning to being a male, but still identifies with the furry community. I pray for her occasionally. Hope she’s ok, and I thank God that band saved me.
I second the love for the band kids, as a fellow former band kid lol (was also an art kid, studied art in college, thankfully I have a super based family so they kept me sane and wholesome through all the crazy liberal arts bs)
Also loved the warrior books! Played pretend as a cat soooo much growing up but i always knew it wasn't real thankfully (however much I wished it was)
I get being like, "If I was in this universe, I would like to be this cat." I gave my preference for Wings of Fire (NightWing and RainWing, my two favorite dragon tribes.) But have a whole "fursona" over it is madness. One is harmless imagination, the other is delusion. Glad band saved you, I'm a theater kid, I fear for what I will see in the future lol

This reminds me of the early 2000s when I spent time taking quizzes online to find out which Harry Potter house I’d be in. Harry Potter was huge at that time, and I was genuinely interested in figuring out my correct house. 2 things: 1, last year my friend said she was a therian and she would go on these rants about how she lands on all fours and she feels the weight of wings on her back and i had no idea what she was talking about, i didnt know what a therian is and i was so confused. 2, i used to hide in the washing basket when i was a kid and pretend to be a turtle doesnt mean i was one, i used to go to the beach and pretend to be a mermaid because it was fun doesnt mean i was one!

Nope, it has nothing to do with acting like an animal, its a belief and most might experience animalistic behaviours but not all, they typically believe they were an animal in a past life and were reincarnated to a human, but it could also be physcological, or for a whole nother reason, they know very damn well they are not an animal but theyd prefer to be one, and dont really feel right as human, its honestly something you dont understand until you experience it and its hard to put the feeling into words its like “i should be an animal, but im not for some reason and ive been human my whole life, but somethings missing”

I have a friend who is a therian and whenever they see something on the internet, they get so obsessed for like a week and that makes me nervous for them because they don't exactly have the best mental state.
I’m a teen girl in high school and I’m so glad that people like Brett still have basic common sense! The people in my generation have lost their minds, so seeing others from Gen Z speak out against this insanity is a huge relief.

Honestly, I’m so glad I grew up before any of this really took off. I was a weird kid. I was into a bunch of different things, and I was just exploring what I liked. But at the end of the day I was still a girl, I just had weird funny things that I liked to do. What happened to kids having an imagination and they wanna play and pretend there are some thing and that’s OK it’s just pretend. It’s like you pretend to be something and now that’s your whole identity. This is why our art and our entertainment has gone to shit because we can’t tell the difference now between fantasy and reality. These people on TikTok they could be amazing, artists and they are Spending their time on TikTok thinking that what they’re saying in their head is reality when they could just create great art.

1: therianthropy is a belief and a non-physical connection to an animal, it can be spiritual or mental/psychological. There are also some therians who belief that their connection come from past lives, you can either be born therian or develop a connection to animals via different ways!

3. A therian is someone who believes they are an animal while also being very well aware that their human. While furries do cosplay, it's a hobby and anyone can become a furry by buying or making a fursuit. Talking about fursuits, the price is insane and we should respect furries because they have talent to make those incredible fursuits.

This is what happens when pretend time ends up following you into adulthood and you're still playing pretend well into your thirties and forties this is just insane to me!
Playing pretend is fine... But usualy it stays in our heads or we write a book about it or draw a picture. This however is concerning and I worry about the future generation!
I think what went wrong is that these people's parents are scared to make their kids grow out of this phase
When I was 13 (now 21), I believed that I was a wolf therian and lived life based on that belief, and I ended up getting a therian symbol tattooed on my chest. Now I am planning on getting that tattoo covered up. My experience with it, and looking back on how I felt at the time, I can say it was more so of an escape from reality and that I was living in a fantasy world. You can believe what you want, but it doesn't make it real.

Bruh. I'm so glad I didn't grow up in the same time when this became a thing. When I was young escapism was reading fantasy and sci fi, using my imagination to write stories, getting into character for a play or musical. Nowadays there's all this weird stuff. My husband and I were accidentally at a furrycon while on vacation last year! 😂 They had an event in a conference room at a museum we were visiting. We were so confused while we were walking in with all those people wearing costumes. I had a conversation with an older lady in the lobby who said that her teenaged grand daughter refuses to go anywhere out of costume! 😮 😢

A therian is not something u can choose to be its about past lves or a non-physical conection to an animal. Therian's know their human, we can't just stop being a therian and let us do what we love, many therian's do this sport called "quadrobics" where u run and jump around on all fours that does not mean all therians do it, therian are mostly known for this sport.

I love drawing animals and been called a furry many times, i did like furrys when i was in middle school but not anymore. Ive been in art since 5th grade and i feel even more distant with my fellow artists. Everyone is either gay or trans or saying they identify as something different than what they appear to be, i feel like i dont belong. I love what i do and what i create but i feel very different than my peers.
Artists tend to fall into that category. As a former high school choir teacher, I saw that a lot of my students were part of the LGBT community, especially those involved in drama and art, but not all! I want to encourage you to keep pursuing your passion through art & know that there are others out there with similar interests to you that don't follow this ideology! I promise we exist ❤

Not to hate on furrys, but I have a friend who is a furry, and he has a LOT of trauma. His dad is abusive and stuff, and I've been praying for him.
But what im getting at is that I feel really bad for him and I feel really bad for anyone who has been hurt to the point where they dont feel they belong anywhere and have to resort to being a fury and changing their identity.

The closest I have had to this experience is when I was in school and someone asked me to dress up in a gorilla costume and I ran around a classroom and they filmed it for one of their student projects.

There is a word for that in the alterhuman community. When someone identifies as a non-human animal as a coping mechanism, they're a copinglinker. Then there are otherhearted people, who still identify as fully human but feel strong connections to certain other species due to involuntary traits or experiences (I'm otherhearted.) Therians and otherkin, on the other hand, actually do identify (almost always only partly) as a non-human animal. Some believe in past lives. The extent to which therian and otherkin identities can be understood and validated by the current scientific consensus is very low though, compared to other alterhuman identities like otherhearted and copinglink. Who knows what discoveries may be made in the future?
