My Grandad worked there when the 'dump went up'. He worked in nearby Tutbury as a glass cutter at Webb and Corbett before working at Fauld. He was part of the Home Guard at the Dump. Luckily he was working in the offices at the time of the explosion. He even appeared in a documentary in about 1967 about the Fauld explosion. Also his uncle Eli Bell was in the 1881 Census as a blaster at the plaster pit which preceded the bomb store. My Dad, as a child, used to roll rocks down the edge of the Crater. There were only about 4,000 tons of unexploded bombs under the crater.
There was another explosion at the port Chicago weapons yard in the California Bay Area during ww2 that killed a lot of people that worked there. It’s an interesting story.
Flixborough happened in my youth in about 1972 near Scunthorpe. Later I became a teacher and a fellow teacher was married to a Flixborough survivor and I had the impression that the experience had so affected him he could not work. I believe a release of cyclo-hexane caused the explosion in this case. I grew up about twenty miles at Gainsborough which is ironic because my dad grew up near Tutbury within walking distance of the crater.

At 16:11 and also before with the horn speaker on the ceiling, that's a "Tannoy" pa system, I could also broadcast warning sounds.
Fauld?
Can't wait for the next installment - this looks like an awesome explore!!
Imagine you survive in the mine, no light, just screams from the wounded or dying, desperately asking you to stay with them.
Nice to see some good footage of this place, it looks mint! Good intro too glad to see more of the presented style. We must meet up soon :)
Living in Burton-on-Trent, my parents and grandparents talked about the explosion, it broke windows and blew off roof tiles in Burton.
The airburst compression wave on its own would have killed you in those tunnels
Holy smokes, that place is enormous.
Brilliant video friend thank you and please keep the great videos coming friend from Scotland 😊
Surprised there is anything left at all after such a large explosion. I would have thought every underground tunnel would have collapsed for sure.
Like your work 🧠💪🎼🙋♂️💚🙏
Nice one guys. R.I.P all those who lost their lives.
I used to live at the cock inn, that got blown down and rebuilt. Awesome place hanbury. Never been in though..
I wonder how you got in there.
That must rank as one of the most weirdly constructed buildings. It doesn't seem to follow any rhyme or reason.
You need a mini OS kit to burn the reed bar
Crazy ? Going down there ! Thanks anyway, rather you than me.
