I would get a new set every year on Christmas and sometimes my birthday and this was truly THE toy set of my childhood over literally anything else. Even as an adult now I’ve contemplated re-collecting them from online just to relive the sheer joy I had with them all growing up!
Holy moly I remember getting the Battle at Skull Haven set for Christmas back in the very early 2000s. I lived in Mexico and my dad worked across the border in the US, left at 6am, got back home at 9,we lived in a tiny house and it wasn't until recently that I learned to appreciate him and my mom making Christmas the best day ever. He'd get home and played with me for a while before going to bed cause of elementary school. Now we're in a nice house immigrated in the US, I'm halfway to getting my degree and I can't wait til I can repay him and my mom for everything they've done for me.
Recently reminisced on this era and I absolutely loved these alongside Heroscape. I was so close to completing the collection back then but my parents had a knack of throwing or giving stuff away without me knowing. Especially when we moved to different places. I was never a big lego person but like one other guy mentioned, these were some of the best sets and pretty enticing.
These are my most prized possessions. As a kid and teen I spent every day of my life tracking these things down and was nearly successful. How I managed to get razor scales is an amazing story and the guy who sold it to me was fucking awesome. I managed to collect most of the PYRATES brand as well as the licensee pirates of the Caribbean brand. With only a few sets and figures that have eluded me. Fort defiance is the one that always bugged me because I was never able to find it. I’m gonna be 21 and the desire to finish what I started is still in the back of my mind.
What’s crazy is that when I used to collect them when I was younger, for some reason I thought I was going crazy because I remember the Pyrates Cove, Fort Defiance, and Lost Fortune sets, but I could never FIND them anywhere!! Even today online, I can only find traces of these sets, it’s crazy
Yeah, unfortunately a LOT of Mega Blox stuff was not proper archived. A lot of their original IPs are missing high quality images for a good number of their sets. Which is super, super unfortunate
I *loved* these sets as a kid. I had Dread Eyes Phantom version 1 and thought it was the coolest thing ever, and that was coming off of watching Pirates of the Caribbean for the first time. The thing I REALLY enjoyed though was the CD-Rom game.
When I was in my teens, I bought the last few remaining Pyrates sets at Toys R Us before it wouldn't be seen again. It was a really small piece, it was a black pouch which contained a little island and a skeleton crew member, but it was all worth it.
Shits so nostalgic, this was one of the first themes I remember playing with as a kid, and I remember going to the store to buy them was such a fun event.
I had these sets in my childhood in January 2007, I had the blue skull along with the ship, I thought they were from the Pirates of the Caribbean, and it was just "Pirates."
Good christ, this unlocked two years of my childhood in 8 minutes and 43 seconds. I miss these things, and probably would buy a couple of them again if they were still on the market. Did the story ever get finished?
I absolutely love this line. The first set I got was Dread Eye's Phantom, and now I have all the sets but one about 15 years later. Razorscales, what I would say is the rarest set. That being said, I never bought the newer versions of the sets they did a few years after. Great video!
I just want to say thanks so much for making this video. This mega set series was magical to me as a kid. Also at 0:28 on the far right, the guy has a black version of a skeleton spear. Very interesting, I wonder if it was ever released. And at 4:00 A skeleton with a Cleaver. Thats gotta be one of the rarest weapon types in the series along with the unique pole arms. I feel like a Blunderbuss would have been a great weapon to this series
Man, I remember I use to have one of these for Christmas back in either 2005 or 6, which is the Treasure Box shaped one, I think that one's Battle For Treasure Island, which imo is awesome. Also, anybody know what the music is from this video? cause' imo it sounds pretty catchy, kinda gives me a Pirates of The Carribean vibe :)
This line, Dragons and then POTC were the golden age of mega bloks. The dragons and command ops figures that were the most like lego minifigs were a little brittle but I still loved them. Wish they would do a new dragons line, using the original figure moulds but higher quality. I hear their Halo figs are pretty nice these days so I'd like to see what they could do.
wow man i miss those so much. wish i never sold the figures in a garage sell lol i remember id lose them too. Good old days tho dread eye phantom and battle for treasure island were the 🐐
I have collected a hodge podge through eBay lots and connecting things together after my mom gave a bunch of these away when I was a kid. Wish I had my originals but I am still always on the lookout! I wonder if they have any locked up in a warehouse somewhere?
The lights function on the vers 2 insn’t there, there are two treasure chest instead of one , there is a rowboat, and a pirate figure ,plus the sail with the skull was removed
These were some the best sets. One of my favorite lines from the classic Mega Bloks Days. The Nostalgia is too real.
Indeed! Uh How I miss this line, imagine if mega brought it back but with modern articulation!
@@UnfriendlyPorcupine Now that'd be be something. These days it seems like MOTU & HALO is the only thing they care to make.

Theres something so satisfying about them haha
They were a unique series from the mega bloks due to action figure mini figures and other details like the skeleton crews.
If only mega bloks could bring back the pyrates....I would buy them immediately. Even with the old less detailled articualtion. They were fantastic!!
I share your sentiment 100%. Pyrates had so much love & care put into it. You can tell mega bloks went all out at the time.

I hope this and the Mega PoC video means you'll be reviewing more of these old sets.
It will, I will be reviewing the big wheel set soon with will tunner, jack sparrow and that British guy I always forget the name of.
I have collected a hodge podge through eBay lots and connecting things together after my mom gave a bunch of these away when I was a kid. Wish I had my originals but I am still always on the lookout! I wonder if they have any locked up in a warehouse somewhere?
No tengo todos, pero aun conservo muy bien aquella colección de piratas
👍 excellente, Los mega bloks sets de Pyrates son fabolosa!
Other than colour palette, does anyone have a definitive list of the differences between versions 1 & 2 of Dread Eye’s Phantom?
