You do very well with that mill. I’m in Northwest Arkansas. I cut Red Cedar, white and red oak black walnut pecan and cherry. All hard wood. That’s all I have on my property. I cut my own logs too. I bought the Norwood hd36 v-2 with hydraulics. I had to get hydraulics because I am 68 with plates and screws in my left foot and leg. Between you and Sandy, y’all handle your mill quite well. I was very impressed watching you. Must be nice having family close. Good video, keep it up. I’m Tom Sommer. I have a couple of videos on UA-cam. We don’t have good internet here so I don’t do very much uploading. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, enjoying the videos! Wondering.. do you have some estimates on how many logs in the 10"-20" range can be done in a 8-hr day of milling with your setup/equipment? Got a hm130max and hand winch instead of tractor, and trying to gauge how long milling will take..

So that first clip is why I now use the track hoe to load big logs in the mill😜👀 Been there, done that 🤣 Send me some white cedar logs and I'll send you some oak😅 I was just given a pile of logs including a 20' x 24" straight tulip Poplar. I might try my first "longer than the mill" cant. I cut the rest at 16' 6" so they are easy.

Nice, yes I have wanted to try doing that sometime as well, seems like a little a challenge of something new to try. I have not had any reason to do it though. Let me know how you make out.

@@ChrisBrackenridge btw, if you have or get a chance to pick up an excavator it makes setting large logs say 1000 to 2000 lbs on the mill a very gentle operation. I then set some scrap posts on the ground near the mill and when it's time to roll it over after the first cut I will gently pick it up off the mill again, swing it over to the posts again and turn it there and then set it back on the mill in position so that I can then clamp it square to the stops with the cant hook. Saves a lot of effort and wear and tear on the log and the mill and is fast and nearly effortless. My damaged shoulder really appreciates it. Turning heave logs like that really tears it up and sets it back. Prior to falling and damaging it I was doing in the range of 500 pushups a day. I am anxious to get back to doing that because it makes every chore so much easier when in shape. At the moment I'm lucky to do 50 before severe pain sets in and rolling heavy logs is about that bad as well. TG for the Cat excavator 👍😜👌

Great video Chris. I too enjoy walking down to my mill, unwrap & begin cutting. Very satisfying and relaxing. Heavy rain last few days here in NS so no fun cutting for me.

We have had a lot of rain here lately as well, so was happy to get a day at the mill. Not going to complain about the rain though, as we needed it for the farm.

Nice looking cedar Chris, straight grain and clear, that 6x6 and 2x’s more than paid for your fuel used in the backhoe and mill. I like to use gloves from Napa, they have 30 day warranty, they are split leather, and hold up well, I’ve exchanged a pair or two in the 30 day warranty no questions asked, mainly due to being worn out from handling chains and cable but work well on lumber too.
