It's because the people who lived in those times, were smarter then the people of today including me, they wanted *good art* but all we want is just escape from reality. so we get addictive trash music. I believe that in every generation any time the elderly will be probably smarter, and will do mistakes that the generations afterwards will learn from. We'll probably get to be the smart guys one day but with less ways to learn we don't have enough knowledge. the next generation will be even more stupid then we're right now... But they will have more knowledge then us. I got old writing that. LMAO sorry if my English isn't great English isn't my native language.
@@EllaHappyGirl ur english is fine. Just needs work with punctuation and commas (not trying to be mean if this came off as mean) and yes. I fully agree with you
@@frogman102 that didn't hurt me ahahah, that was helpful..! 😁👍 Thank you for your honesty, I love when someone is giving me knowledge and advice about something. truth can get you places that feelings can't get you to. At least that's my opinion. Hahaha
My grandmother started teaching me swing dancing when I was 6. I'm 31, and my grandmother is turning 89. I won't have her forever, but I'll always have what she taught me.
Imagine you just won "the great war". You've got a pocket full of cash. In America, in the 1920s, the epitome was white. So if you're a white male, the USA is your oyster. You're super entitled because, why not, that's how you were raised. So you're already of a higher class. And you go out, feeling like a million bucks, to the closest speak easy
I get nostalgia from this, not because I'm old but because I grew up watching Tom and Jerry the original cartoon, and it was filled with songs that are gems like these. Truly good times getting up in the morning and having your favorite show play while you eat you cereal.
I think Gen X is the last generation to have the kind of daily exposure to this music in our childhood. I grew up in a house where jazz was played a lot at 33 rpms. If you're Gen X, you know what that is intimately.
It's incredible (and quite sad) that this music ruled the airwaves and clubs until rock n' roll arrived, which completely decimated swing & drove jazz underground. I love rock n' roll but this marvelous era & music deserved to persevere. The talent, energy, vibe and spectacular sounds are unparalleled to anything we see now, gave musicians work and kept them sharp.
I can honestly relate to that, I love Swing and there's something about it that makes me like it unlike the other songs nowadays. And the most interesting part is I'm not that old, I'm young!
It's 1938. Winston Churchill is rattling his sabers on the radio, Adolf Hitler is Time Magazine's Man of the Year, and everyone is blissfully unaware what he's capable of. Fedora hats and flared skirts are all the rage, cabaret clubs and singalong music halls are doing a roaring trade, Ginger Rogers is on every teenage boy's bedroom wall, and Popeye the Sailor Man, Felix the Cat, Betty Boop and Mickey Mouse are packing movie houses to the rafters. And in the still of the evening, the tones of trumpets and saxophones echo tinnily over valve-driven speakers from townhouse windows...
Totally agree. I listen almost everything, including depressive black metal and brutal death, but this kind of music is healing my soul and refresh my mind. Also it gives me some great chill when i`m bored and tired at work.
I was born in the 70s but I love my grandmothers music , I started on Billie Holiday and Teddy Wilson 20 years later I’ve graduated to swing blue lol by the time I’m dead I’ll catch up to today
I was a teenager when I started listening to this music back in the 70s I was a house keeper for some very beautiful North Americans living on my Island growing up to Calypso and Reggae this was a nice change and to this day I love ❤️ love ❤️ it
The best. Musical upbeat & psychological uplift ! Imagine nights out - listening and dancing to this sort of Big Band Live Music ! A completely different mind set / spirit in terms of music, fun, culture, humour, etiquette, romance etc. I keep asking myself why we so willingly gave that all up ? And keep getting only one answer: We must be insane ...
I'm in jazz band and jazz and older songs as such have a very special place in my heart. It's so so much fun just to play, dance, or even just listen too! On my free time I'm always listen to something like this!
This is the best compilation I've found, for years I'm always searching for something like this to listen to since I'm not really sure where to start. A long playlist, the songs don't sound remastered and it has turned me on to so many performers which is what I was looking for. Now I can add some of this great music to my record collection! I hope there are more like this.
Because Louis was the king of the horn. To me, he is an immortal legend of jazz. Thank you, Louis, for all the years of wonder and music you gave to the world!
Великолепно!!! Мой отец играл в джаз бенде на контрабасе,я ходил на их репетиции и концерты. Они часто играли в кинотеатре перед сеансом. Счастливое детство. Счастливые времена. Адью
So many people lamenting not having grown up during this period have an appreciation that they very well may have. one way you could have experience it would be as my mother did growing up in Los Angeles with several older sisters. When she was in her early teens she was going on dates with her sisters and their boyfriends acting as the chaparone at both high end clubs and neighborhood joints. It was common for her after hearing the background music for commercial products being played she'd say that she saw this or that perform live with Aunt so and so. Of course t the time there was rumor of organized crime infiltration of the clubs etc so I am certain that bucks would pass to make things go smooth.
It breaks my heart that today's music is so violent, sexual, and explicit.....creating a culture that harms so many......this music is so uplifting and positive.....what happened to us?
At its time, this very music was considered violent, sexual, and explicit! Also, these precise recordings were sanitized in order to be broadcasted. Churches and polite white society deemed it "n*gg*r" depravity! It was said about Tango, Samba, Rumba, R&B, Rock & Roll, it is said today about hip-hop. Don't you see a pattern here?
I would love to know the correct name of the 2nd to last number; it is mislabeled "Way down yonder in New Orleans" by the Kansas City Six; it is followed by "Chatanooga Choo Choo"" Does anybody know the correct name of this number? Thanks in advance.
