  • The Brookport Bridge connects Paducah, KY and Brookport, IL. It makes a very creepy sound that is hard to hear in the video. Constantly under matience! If you crash, you DIE!

The Interstate 24 bridge is several miles downstream. Mainly locals use this bridge. I drove over it hundreds of times since I was 16 in 1961.

Used to be one like it on US 40 over the Missouri River at Boonville, MO. Blown up in 2001 when a new bridge was built. The way people drive (at 70 mph) on the narrow I-24 bridge makes it just about as scary.

I drove semis across those bridges at nite, 28yrs ago, when I was a rookie. Those bridges are only as dangerous as the people who drive across them, but as a long time CDL, I haven't had to drive a big rig across them for a long time, and I don't miss it.

This bridge is like the old bridge connecting Gulfport, IL to Burlington, IA... it was replaced by a much nicer and safer one about 30 yrs ago... give or take. When traffic got backed up due to construction on Highway 34, cars and semis going in both directions would sit on the bridge for half hour or more... And the more semis, the more the bridge would sway!! Fun times!!

Bridges from back in the days when the country had plenty of 'erector sets'. The early versions of Legos. They came around at about the same time as Lincoln Logs.
I was about 4 years old when we drove over this bridge when my Dad was getting transferred from Virginia to the Phillippine Islands - Clark AFB back then. I thought it was a really cool bridge. When we got to the other side we stopped for breakfast. That was when we found that we made a wrong turn and had to go back over it again. It was lucky we were hungry.

You're kidding right? I mean Illinois is a very scary place bridge or not. Lived here all my life. But have you SEEN any of those videos with the worst bridges in the world??? No to the no on most of them. I would have to rent a boat lol. Or go around even if it was miles to find another crossing. Or just swim...well I'd definitely drown then. Or be eaten by a large carp. Or a 500lb 200yr old bottom feeding catfish with 12ft long whiskers under this one. Some of the damn things have visible HOLES in them.😵🌉 Thanks for the info. I had no idea we were connected to Texas by way of THAT THING. LOL🙏🕊️😉 Serious shite tho. Infrastructure is falling down all over the world. We don't even need a quake here. Happy Labor Day anyone who celebrates. Stay safe out there.

An even scarier bridge is Michigan's Mackinac Bridge on I75 going over the Straits of Mackinac from the lower peninsula to Michigan's upper peninsula. It's over 5 miles long and the grating is ever more nerve wracking. And you are over 150 feet high over the water. You need to try it just once in your life.

No excuse for a bridge like this, completely unsafe and basically unusable in this day and age. First and foremost, there is nowhere to pull over in case of an emergency or breakdown. Additionally, the sides should be shrouded with opaque plastic for those with a fear of heights. This sorry excuse for a bridge should be torn down and replaced with a safer, more user friendly modern bridge.
