Ngl, the "harmonic" dubstep still has a hummable melody, it just has several of them technically, we just pick out the highest or most prominent one. Hell, even some "atonal" dubstep has a melody, take the 2nd part of the 1st drop in virtual riot komputermusik, wooli & kompany - thicc boi, etc,
For me. Before I knew its name as Melodic Dubstep I used to call it Chaotic Harmony 😂 I still do cause I don't think there is a better fit When i play it in public people ask me what noise I'm playing but when you actually lock in and hear all those instruments doing their own fkn thing but yet coming together perfectly Its like you're ascending I was introduced Teminite via Highscore when it first released and haven't looked back since.
Hey just cuz you didn’t play the melody of Take My Energy doesn’t mean I can’t hum it. I always figured it had to do with the song structure and grit to the drop. Like, the good ole Cinema remix has a melody in the drop that’s pretty hummable, and even a bit more melodically present than some melodic dubstep. It just doesn’t pass the vibe check. Heck, a lot of stuff in the blues scale doesn’t for some folk, blues included. For my money, Kmoe, Fox Stevenson, Brown & Gammon and Dems are probs my fave examples of out of the box melodic dubstep. This is fun, too!
I like this interesting twist on the term. I think nowadays when people refer to melodic dubstep, they mean that there are actual notes and chord progressions being played, as opposed to something like Trench or Brostep where it's much more sound-design oriented and not nearly as focused on chord progressions. That being said, I think more melodic dubstep tracks need to have a catchy tune or melody that's hummable or at least able to be remembered or visualized
Id say that when it comes to genres, it's whatever but if you really wanna label them: Accelerate is melodic dubstep Opal is colourbass Take my Energy is Future riddim
its always the nuances of a good melody that really draw me into any music, at least emotionally, still interesting to see how the different names for genres evolve over time, there are plenty of older "melodic dubstep" tracks i absolutely LOVE, but most "melodic dubstep" coming out now i am not really a fan of, dw i love ur stuff, old and new
I think melodic dubstep has meant a lot of different thinks over the years Looking back to like 2011, melodic dubstep just meant "brostep that isnt riddim" I think the sound seven lions pushed was probably "true" melodic dubstep but ultimately that sound evolved into future bass/pop The way i personally tell those tracks apart is that ur first one was future bass, accelerate is electrostep, and the other two were colour bass Anyway soul was a cool tune good stuff
1. DUUUUUN, DUUUUUUUUN! DUN, Dun DUUUN! 2. Dun, dududududa-da-duda-da-du-DUUUUN! 3. pum pum pum pum, pum pum pububum. 4. ya, ya, ya, ya, ye, ye, ye, yu. i hummed. And your soul is future riddim bruh.
miss you by fox stevenson would be a great example, the melody's stuck in my head for years now
Love fox, first time I’ve seen someone actually refer to him 😂
One of my favs from Fox! Such a good artist.
one of my fav artists
I took music at a level and instantly thought “that’s not melodic, that’s harmonic”

A lot of the more popular Seven Lions type "melodic dubstep" is just future bass with dubstep drums instead of trap drums.
Harmonical Dubstep
Colour Bass vol. 3 is full of dubstep tunes with strong melodies: Inutilia, Jumble, Hold On and others
That riff on Here With Me as well!
For me. Before I knew its name as Melodic Dubstep

Great examples, thank you chime
That’s a great point- I guess when I tell people I like melodic dubstep I really mean harmonic dubstep.
Also, let’s go sharks!!

Id say that when it comes to genres, it's whatever but if you really wanna label them:
Accelerate is melodic dubstep
Opal is colourbass
Take my Energy is Future riddim
I mean all three of those songs are color bassy in nature.....and that's what the video is saying
Another great example of Melodic Dubstep would be Cryolite by Skybreak, a great song with a very memorable melody and great vocals!
Those subganres which you've played after Seven Lions are Melodic Riddim(aka Color Bass) and you know it man)
poo pee poo pee pee poo pee poo pee pee-roo roo

“This milk taste like colors”-Haminations
Side note i finally found out the name of that one Syzy song from the SYN LDN mix on soundcloud that ive been repeating a lot, lol
I think melodic dubstep has meant a lot of different thinks over the years

God that syzy track gets me everytime 🔥
Lesson Learned🔥
Just follow vanatice. It doesn't matter what genre he makes, his melodies are always strong and in ur facee
ah yes, i'm a big fan of his songs halo and manta. his melodies are absolutely dope. but usually there is generic brostep and dissonant colour bass.
future riddim bruh lmao
1. DUUUUUN, DUUUUUUUUN! DUN, Dun DUUUN!
2. Dun, dududududa-da-duda-da-du-DUUUUN!
3. pum pum pum pum, pum pum pububum.
4. ya, ya, ya, ya, ye, ye, ye, yu.
i hummed.
And your soul is future riddim bruh.
I guess Au5 makes the best _harmonic_ dubstep now!
Nah I'd whistle all of 'em
What if... Harmonic + Melodic + Step = Harmodicstep ✨🤌
harmonic dic
nice!! and also every time i see a waterfall in real life i hum skybreak waterfall first drop
Reminds me of Robotaki - Limbo. Sounds great!
When i hear Melodic i think Panda Eyes almost evry song but i go with 3D Fairy Tale his newest one. Or to say a classic one Take my Hand.
Ayyyy, I know VirtualDJ when I see it! 😄
yesss I've been saying this for years! Although I do dadadadadah the wobs hahah
❤
What's the first song? 😊
Melodic Dubstep (Classic style): Seven Lions, SLANDER, & Dabin - First Time feat. Dylan Matthew
Melodic Brostep: Teminite & Skybreak - Accelerate
Color Bass: Sharks - Opal
Future Riddim: Syzy - Take My Energy!
Melodic Dubstep (Modern): Ookay & Chime - Soul
Wait, "harmonic dubstep" doesn't sound bad at all, I think I'll start calling it like that
Yes,
Ohhhhh interesting sounds exactly like Eero Johannes's melody...
Real virtuality 😢
😲
I personally don't think Harmonic Dubstep is a bad name.
Melodic/non-melodic
idc as long as it's great
Speak for yourself I hum accelerate to myself daily
