I just knew 100% after I watched a handful of your videos that you were a fellow INFPer or INFJer I could clearly see it without a doubt. When you confirmed it, I was like totally makes sense. That’s why his words and “thoughts” resonate with me. Why are people so dang combative? We do take things personally because we choose our words wisely. I think we don’t fit in and I also think deep down we don’t want to fit in. I hate that you feel this way Wayne. I always say to myself to trust my gut. It’s why I didn’t jump on the Analytics band wagon. Wasn’t interested didn’t want to take my time doing it. I just wanted to keep doing me. We should start an INFP club😊 we love you here.
An INFP club would be hilarious! I imagine a large group of people who all would rather be by themselves! Thanks for all of your comments! I truly appreciate you stopping by every day!
I'm an INFP too and I totally get where you are coming from. My entire career (32 years) I worked in a career field that was not a natural fit for me (it was a nearly perfect fit for ISTJs and ESTJs - my complete opposite MBTI type). So I spent decades being a fish out of water compared to most of my other mainly ISTJ/ESTJ managers, colleagues, and employees, and it often sucked. But at the same time, I knew that people in my organization did value my opinions and knowledge, especially as I gained experience and expertise in the subject matter. In many cases they valued me more than I valued myself (because I'm an INFP and that's how we roll!). If you are still getting subscribers and views on your other channel, that means people are getting value from your content. There are people all over social media who seem to take delight in criticizing and cutting others down. I often feel sorry for them even when they do hurt my feelings. I bet you do too. As a long-time YT consumer, I do get attached to certain creator personalities, and I'll watch their content because I like and trust them over people that may have more/different/better knowledge on the same subject matter. The great thing about YT is that if I want to read reviews on a certain piece of tech equipment, YT will serve up a bunch of videos on that topic and I'm free to watch as many as I want. Nobody forces anyone to watch anything. You are probably a safe haven for all the NFs who are buying tech equipment because you are speaking in a way that makes sense to them. So if you do decide to stick with it, maybe have that mindset? Your niche is tech reviews for NFs, but you will attract all the other temperaments too and that is OK. My channel is still very small, so monetization is not a thing for me yet, but even still I do think about monetization a lot, and I see it as a double-edged sword. INFPs are motivated much more by being helpful/doing a service for others than by making money. Once money comes into the picture, the purity of our work is called into question (in our weird INFP way). But INFPs have to earn money just like the rest of the world, or we'd all be starving and homeless. IMHO - keep doing it if you want to, and don't feel bad about making money. You are providing value to others and you deserve the money. If you don't need the money and don't like the work, put it on hiatus for a while and see how you feel in a few weeks or months and quit if you want to quit. Creators disappear from YT all the time and it comes with the territory! Sorry this is so long! Apparently I had lots to say about this! 😁
Hi Kris I read your reply because I feel like we know one another and I care what you have to add to the conversation. You re such a beautiful soul. I’m excited about your upcoming birthday video! Lots of love ❤I want to add btw that I love your channel too because just like Wayne I knew we were two birds of a feather. We are finding our people and it’s a beautiful gift. ❤❤
Thanks @kristannonfire for your kind and thoughtful comment! I can totally relate being an INFP in a sea of other personality types! And thanks so much for your insight into having a mindset shift about my tech channel! A safe haven for NPs, love it! Thinking about it more, that channel probably draws a lot of INFs (but you wouldn't know it because we tend to not make ourselves known lol!)
I am an INFJ and I relate to all of this and your experience. Sadly, since I began being my authentic self in my channel, UA-cam has not been as user friendly…so to speak. My views are down, subscriber growth stalled, and impressions flat-lined. It’s so interesting because I am providing value to my viewers…as is evident in my comment section. People are commenting all the time to thank me for being open and vulnerable because they see themselves in my stories. I’m so much more comfortable just sitting and talking as opposed to “performing.” It literally hurts my brain to be any other way here. Maybe our style of being just hasn’t caught on yet, Wayne. I had an idea for a while that was recently mirrored by a neurodivergent researcher which is that maybe introverts and other neurodivergent people were originally the dominate people in society. The deep thinkers, quiet reflectors, and open hearted folks. Before there were any other responsibilities besides finding food and staying alive, it was likely those who told stories, spent time in nature, and nurtured their tribe members who were considered “normal” and the more hyper, more physically active, more fast paced folks were considered divergent. Society has grown to suit their brain trait and we are left to remind them of the value of looking within. All that said, I understand, I agree, and I appreciate your complex and beautiful thoughts. You bring value to me with each video. ❤😊
Thanks Jen! Truthfully, I've seen your comments sections and have been amazed at the type of engagement you get! I have a feeling YT videos will start to be weighted differently and clicks/views will be less valuable than actual human interactions. So keep doing you! The idea that norms have shifted is super interesting! It's like how all YT used to be long form videos and then there was a huge shift to short form across the internet and now you're the odd on out if you only do long videos. Maybe I'm a Gatherer and maybe that's ok lol!
It seems like you're following your bliss. And that's awesome! I'm not a content creator (maybe one day), but I see similar things (and sometimes feel it too) in society as a whole. I find that many in society have become very coarse and brash. I have no idea whether it's intentional or not. I'm an INTJ, but I still got your message in this video. Keep up the great work.
I don't think I've ever related to a video in such a complete way. I'm in marketing, and while there are things I like about marketing generally speaking, I practice it within the confines of a company. I detest meetings. Meetings, or the dread of upcoming meetings, ruin my whole day. I live in dread when their are meetings on my calendar. The giddy elation I feel when meetings are over is surely not normal. lol. Like you, I detest structure, having to contort myself to fit in the structure. Let me just leave it there. Thank you for this video, the candor and honesty. Brilliant.
Thanks so much for leaving a comment! I checked our last video, saw Aaron (who is here quite often) commented and I immediately subbed. I've been on this quest of putting myself out there and (hopefully) attracting like minded individuals and I've been amazed at how it's panning out! Definitely interested in learning more about your story and so glad you found this video!
It's funny, I first took the test like 20 years ago as a workplace synergy exercise. Unfortunately, I don't have any notes from way back then, but I do recall it was more of an exercise in self identification rather than how to better understand our colleagues...
Hey Wayne, I'm sorry to hear that you feel this way about your other channel. I can relate to what you said about offending people without doing anything. I've been in environments where I would upset people if I breathed in the wrong way, you know? I never fit in, and I gave up a long time ago. BTW: I'm an INFJ. I get you.
Thanks Joane! Comments like yours are why I love making videos on this channel! Connecting with people in a deeper, more meaningful way. I guess that's classic INFs lol!
Had to look it up. I have a small world. I dont have very many issues w my channels as far as comments. I does get weird some times. I have notifications set for your channels. Yeah i enjoy your channels. Def love your tech vibe. I like reveiws but everytime i make the purchase i didnt know they dropped say this feature for that feature or now this dont work w that and so on. Honest reveiwers dont always know the lengths the product has been reveiwed. Like if they want to know more details then that will be in another video or not. Your the creator. My wife just got home. We got school tomarrow. Hope ya keep things rollin. Dont worry bout it.🎉Thanks heaps
Moreover, these days, with post release updates and modifications, initial review videos can quickly become outdated! Hope the first day of school when well for you all!
What I do not get is why some UA-camr say how they have a thick skin so people can offend them and that is okay. On my channel if anyone is a jerk and not kind they get deleted and blocked. In a sense I feel my channel is my home and if they are disrespectful they are not invited back.
Personally for me, since I'm so random there's no MTBI rating that sticks with me. It's so different each time. ie they'll ask me "Do you focus more on the details or the big picture?" Me: I do both. "Do you rely on logic or your feelings when making decisions?" Both. "Do you consider yourself more practical or imaginative?" Both. I know people say you can't be both but I literally am both. So the quiz never knows where to place me :D
Honestly, the quiz is worded pretty rather badly. They should give scenarios of what you would rather do in specific situations. Of course everyone has different circumstances in which they rely on their feelings to guide them through a situation and everyone can let their feelings guide them if they choose to in that moment. Everyone sees the big picture and the fine details simultaneously. The questions aren’t all or nothing; just think of about 5 scenarios and choose what extent you relate to that behavior. You can’t just be all of the personalities.
@Dracomies Well, I do know one thing about you. You're super thoughtful and thorough! TSM for that SmallRig hack! I pinned your comment on that vid as I know others would also appreciate your discovery!
Not sure you are looking for advice, but here's my two cents (sorry for my poor english, in advance): I'm an INTP who works in the tech industry (a fairly common thing), so some would say I'm one of the MBTI types that are the target audience of your other channel, and yes, I do consume that type of content (hardware or otherwise). Despite that, I rarely comment on UA-cam at all, even in channels which I find the content interesting or helpful. It's kind of obvious what I mean, but a lot of people we end up helping with our work (especially on UA-cam) are invisible or silent, especially introverts like you or me. This, of course, doesn't mean they are not grateful. I actually feel like giving a like, subscribing and watching videos is a way of showing gratitude and, if I don't have something (that at least seems to me) meaningful, insightful or useful to say, I rather not say anything at all. That being said, I know you know this well, but on the internet, for reasons like the one I described and others, people are more likely to comment some kind of negative feedback, criticisms or ego-driven experiences. Anyway, even though I like tech content, I find the way humans work and think fascinating, and as an INTP, I appreciate the idea of improving thoughts, social experiments and personal development, which is what I understand this channel is (partially) about. What I mean is that I believe we are more alike than we are different even though we have some points of view on which we most likely disagree (which is completely okay and expected). So, I would recommend that you do not write off this audience from your other channel as people who have absolutely nothing in common with you. Of course some may be, but there others like me out there. That said, if interaction, dialogue, and the perception of identification are essential to you, I understand your frustration. Feeling disgusted by something you do does not seem sustainable in the long run. Although I have not seen your content, from what you say, the impression I get is that you do not truly allow yourself to be an INFP creating tech content, but rather a model of content creator that you understand technology demands. Of course, data, logical thinking, and knowledge are important in technology and related fields, but I believe there is room for feelings too, as long as you reframe your content so that you can be yourself. In fact, I appreciate channels and content creators who seem like real people, with their own experiences, feelings, and opinions, even if I would be trying to make a cold, logical choice like which microphone would be best suited to do x or y. About making content or persuing interests that suits INFP, it's likely easier to stay motivated and brush off negative feedback if you are doing something that you genuinely love above most things. If you can think of a big list above technology, it doesn't seem like a bad idea to direct your energy to some of that.
Thanks so much for your thoughtful insights! You make some excellent points! The invisible viewer/subscriber is a great aspect to remember (and ironically, I am that kind of viewer in general). What I enjoy about this channel how people with differing viewpoints and opinions can have discussions about whatever topic is at hand and how it helps me see things from all types of perspectives. You're totally on point that comments do not necessarily represent the majority of viewers and often times a handful of negative comments outshine any and all positive ones. Thanks again for sharing your insight! I super appreciate it!
I also feel there are so many nice and caring people in the world that I am not worried I will not get people on my channel if I do not let jerks on my channel. But yeah, tech stuff would be not personable and probably does not align with your values.
