  • A good friend and I walked into this very remote river system in New Zealand chasing big angry Rainbow and Brown trout. We encountered the endangered Blue Duck and the biggest Eels I have come across in my life. The scenery on this river is just amazing and is a pleasure to be down there just for that. Throw in some great fishing and well have a look for yourself and rate it for me please. If you haven'y done already, subscribe to my page as I fish some of the North Islands best trout fishing waters and bring you the action. Thank you for watching, tight lines Shane

      Hey Geoff, really good to hear from you bud. I am working full time atm so not doing as much fishing as I should, ill try and remedy that in the next month or two. Hope your all good bro, life is treating you well and your getting out occasionally. When are you getting up to Taupo? Oh and yeah man we had walked over twenty KM for this trip and I was farked, so if it went downstream I wasn't going to follow it at all..

    Top Video, a really breathtaking landscape in which you move there ... at some point I might even make it to NZ...

      Hey StoneFly. yeah we are certainly blessed for water no mistake there bud. New Zealand should be on the bucket list of all keen fresh water anglers. I won the fishing lottery when I was born, for sure. :) Thanks for watching tight lines.

    Amazing video as usual. Always envious of the scenery and the trout you catch. NZ is absolutely on my bucket list of places to fish for trout.

    Hey Bro, great footage, as always. Remember this trip well. How does the Hardy Zenith Sintrix 9 foot, 6 weight cope on this river and with this size of trout?

    • @rivergod21
      @rivergod21  6 років тому

      Hey Darren. Like a freakin dream man. As you know I was using a 5# for quite a while and when I got into a decent trout it really didn't have that stopping power. The Zenith just tuckers them out, can chuck 4.5ml of tungsten piss easy and is very sensitive for line control. All up Darren it is the best river rod I have ever flicked with and that is saying something. When Simon and I passed that big hole you fell into we stopped looked into it and mentioned how the freck you are still alive. This is not a river to mess with.

      Most definitely. The trek through the gorge is long, arduous and requires maximum concentration - and that's before you start fishing. There is no way would you venture into such a remote and dangerous system if there was a risk of adverse weather. "This is not a river to mess with" is a very accurate phrase by Shane.

      Hey Rusty, you are welcome to jump into any of our conversations. Yup absolutely correct I spent every day for ten days checking the weather coming in. There are over 40 river crossings to get through with at least ten of them being super tricky, any extra water in the systems just makes it way to hard and dangerous. However the best fishing is at the start of the season as if the water gets to low the trout tend to drop back down the main system for colder water and more flow.

      Bro that hole was deep, how you came out of that unscathed was a miracle. Considering your skill level, it was a hard day for all of us..

      absolutely Rusty. I get quite a few people asking where these places are and I will never give them up for that reason. My God I would be devastated to go down there, see footsteps and the heads of dead Eels and or trout. Some people just want to take take take and have no second thought for how fragile these systems are. Cheers mate.

    Real cool video Shane.. Must get my one cranked up and do a few once I get my head around editing. Bugger the eels, I see some big ones on some systems here but nothing like those ones ! Keep up the vids, always a treat to watch

      Hey man, cool ,editing is easy once you get the hang. Good luck with your Vid. Yeah that bigger Eel was a beast. Could imagine it snapping its fangs around my fingers and that video turning out a heap different. Thanks for watching mate.

    A good mate on the river is better than a big fish any day. When the eels get that big they're all girls! Thanx for sharing what must have been a great day out.

      Hey Timmo. Thanks for that info on the Eels, I had no idea, no wonder it was grumpy and scared away the little one :) Yeah having a good friend on a river like that makes the day. Tight lines bud.
