I'm always intrigued by the use of helicopters in the UK. How far would it be by road from this incident to the trauma hospital? Although our ambulance services in Australia have their own choppers, they're primary used outside of urban areas. The HARU Paramedics used in Queensland are actually designed on the HEMS doctors from London.
@@coover65 A high amount of incidents now patients aren’t taken in the helicopter however it’s a quick way to get doctors across UK county’s for example from Manchester to Liverpool rather than using a car during rush hour.
@@Southern999Responses That sounds like a fantastic use of an aerial resource. We don't have such traffic problems here. We have heavy traffic especially on freeways but generally can dart down a breakdown lane (I think Brits call it the hard shoulder?). Are these choppers NHS Ambulance units?
My sister and brother in law, who was a Police Sergeant, were taken down to Melbourne from Castlemaine in central Victoria by the police Airwing chopper after my nephew was hit by a car while in Gippsland and had to be airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital in an induced coma in 2002. The police were wonderful and it was organised very quickly so that they could get to the hospital. My nephew suffered frontal lobe brain damage and a damaged liver but has for the most part recovered. He has some behavioural issues now, low impulse control, personality changes and mood swings. At the moment he hates his mother and I which is extremely upsetting, especially for my sister of course and he will not speak to her. This has occurred before and it will settle down but I hate him to think that I don’t love him as I love him so much and it’s not his fault that he is like this now. My respect to these wonderful pilots who save so many lives every year all around the world. You are amazing! PS I love you Matthew ♥️
@@karenglenn6707 I'm sorry to hear that your nephew has ongoing medical issues. We're lucky in the eastern states and the ACT to have world class aeromedical resources available to us. A few colleagues of mine are flight paramedics and even they're in awe at the skill of the rescue pilots. Vacancies for such positions are few and far between, and you can imagine how competitive applicants must be. The ambulance and police can choose the best.
Yes London is a main spotting location we just happened to be at Lambeth palace and noticed the helicopter going very low and we know they use Parliment square as a Landing zone due to how open it is just so happened the incident was also there.
Epic piloting!😊

@coover65 no, they are a charity and rely fully on public donations

Hope the HGV is OK
i hope the person make a full recovery. but this to all cyclist out there always stop at traffic lights if you run them this is what happens
Also be aware of the road markings and what lane you are in. Too many times left only lane cyclists go straight on.
Pilot with blue boiler and red helmet instead of the regular uniform? whats that about
Not sure
you were there as well? how comes you happened to be there at the right time for this as well?

Cyclists are a nuisance.
so are car drivers and hgv drivers
100 % they should be made to take insurance and a bicycle tax
Just imagine how full your bus would be if all the cyclists were in there with you instead of pushing pedals..
