I’m the soprano on the far end and I can confidently say this by far was the best experience I’ve ever had singing background vocals for Vanessa, Donnie, Kirk Franklin, Rich Smallwood, J Moss, Fred Hammon, Byron Cage, and Michelle Williams 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 special thanks to Lerel Frederick our Director who drilled us til we got every song right!!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Vanessa Bell Armstrong is my favorite Female Gospel Singer. Not only could she Sing, the Woman can Sang.Just listen to all those great Riffs that she puts in her songs. She makes you understand what she’s singing about. That a Special Gift, similar to Ministry thru her Music. She makes it plain.🎤🎼🎶🎵
I love vanessa Bell Armstrong songs they are so inspiring to me. When I am down her music inspires me let's me know that I can make it through anything with the help of God. Keep singing.
Someone from the USA played this song on an audio cassette many years ago, when Vanessa did not record an album yet which included "He looked beyond my fault ..." He said she will make it big and for years I was looking for stuff in South Africa. Got out of just music into ministry and technology brought her around. Her surname "Armstrong"confused me a bit. I think it was in the 70's. We played Andrae Crouch in our gospel band then. No-one could emulate Vanessa Bell.
I wouldn't take anything from Vanessa. Some people like apples,... some like oranges, some don't care for either (preference). I loveeeee Vanessa, her runs, riffs, etc! If she changed ANYTHING,.. she wouldn't be vanessa. Her runs/riffs is what makes her different from anyone,........ out there. I have been with her since 17yrs old and I just made 40 a week ago. And to think this song is still,... time less! A.....MAZINGGGG!
YES... Dramatic coloratura soprano since her natural timbre is heavy but her upper register falls in line with coloratura soprano range and agility. Vanessa Bell Armstrong is unbelievable!
I tossed my mouse about five times before it got to 8:13, then I jumped out my chair and scared the entire office. Nessa, done got the whole office thinkin' I'm crazy now! LOL, I love this video!
Lord whatever your will be LORD. Thank you Jesus. Whatever the Storm ....PEACE BE STILL!...LORD touch my son and move him in your word cause I know that only you can do this...DEVIL get thy behind us! You can't have him! and I Thank you all ready....Halleluiah
Ive seen some bad(in the good way)singers, but I havent seen anybody top Vanessa yet! You cant practice what she has, this was birth given. I dont know if anyone remember the scene from the movie Sleeping Beauty when the three fairy god mothers came and blessed her with her gifts. I swear everytime I see and hear VBA sing thats the scene that comes to mind. She was brought this gift hand delivered and it cant be taken away. AMAZING!!!
@exxodus29 Yes, I am an English teacher. As a matter of fact I just graduated yesterday with my masters in English. And I look up words all the time. I am a teacher, not a dictionary. I used context clues to figure out that a tempest was a storm, my purpose for looking up Tempest was to give me a more clear image. I live in the middle of the AZ desert. We don't have storms of that magnitude. When I had a better understanding of a tempest I had a better understanding of the awesome power.
@theclarrettbo1 For ME it's about HER & God. He gives U a choice & doesn't MAKE anyone do ANYTHING. How beautiful 4 her 2 accept her calling & YIELD 2 it his power, his word & DECIDE 2 let him work WITHIN her while ministering 2 us in song. I've opened for Vanessa & we've talked. She's made a difference in this negative JUDGEMENTAL world and has been an inspiration to me. Hope U find yours one day. PEACE UNTO U!
love dis song but the man in the first few seconds of the video wit the glasses looks exactly like the man from Sunday's Best season 2 correct me if I'm wrong
LOL! You are WILD! VBA's voice fits within the parameter of a dramatic coloratura soprano's which is heavier than a lyric coloratura soprano's tone. It's even more evident when she utilizes more of her head tones; which is rare because those tones aren't necessary for the style of gospel music that she sings. A lot of sopranos have those notes even if they don't use them much. Beverly Sills [also J. Sutherland; M. Callas; etc.] used more of her range for her genre [opera] of music. That's all.
@theclarrettbo1 I hope U find inspiration, which is what Vanessa was 2 me when I met her & opened 4 her. I responded 2 u because your post said "@ImDatchic1 It's not about.." I Understand U being new 2 utube. Your post was so judgemental saying "stop focusing... " . Again, I felt her anointing & sincerity. 4 me she is a gift that chose 2 minister thru song & share God's blessings & power. I'm inspired as a musician & thankful 2 her & our Father God.
@jussxy26 not saying you're wrong, but I'm asking don't you think she was a soprano in the 80's and 90's because if you notice her voice has thinned out a little bit which allows her to sing that high
@1Chantellz I don't know... Karen Clark Sheard has done some AMAZING things!!!! I believe that their upper registers are similar. Like on one of Karen's newest songs "Prayed Up" (The live version uploaded by TheClarksSistersTV) At 228 - 2:30 and again at 2:55 - 3:00 I'm pretty certain that Karen goes above a Bb5... You can double check though... P.S. Tell me if you like the song... God bless!
@exxodus29 LOL...I see what you are saying about the runs. Vanessa Bell does work a run. But here's a silly question for you. if she didn't do the runs, could we still consider her to be Vanessa Bell Armstrong. It would be like Beverly Crawford without her Holy Ghost dance....LOL... Yes, I had to look up the lyrics too...well, then I had to look up a tempest, but again, I am an English nerd...LOL
@exxodus29 of the storm, and the awesomeness of God. I look up words all the time. Not because I don't know them, but I want to understand them better. FYI-- I encourage and most times insist that my students look up words, especially words they think they already know. back to Vanessa, I would totally agree at 2:30. At times it seems like she gets stuck in a run and can't get herself out of it. 3:35 is a really good one.
People don't lose the point here...I don't care if she is an Alto or a Ventriloquist...HER voice is ANNOINTED! I am moved just listening to her online, I can only imagine how I would fall apart if I hear her in person!!
I agree, like just sincerely sing the song. Why gospel got to be extra like we want realness. Okay maybe I'm saying too much don't want to offend anybody
VBA is definitely a soprano. A contralto cannot reach those high extremes like she can in her higher register. She doesn't even use her falsetto which would mean she's definitely a soprano.
@exxodus29 My comment had nothing to do with grammar. The statement is grammatically correct, I just didn't know what word was right there for the longest time. I teach the rules of grammar, and know how to break them and how to fix them, how to distort them, and how to manipulate and analyze them. Grammar and enunciation are two totally different things. All I commented on was the word. I said nothing about her use of grammar.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE TO HEAR HER SING PEACE BE STILL. I JUST WISH SHE WOULD SAY THE WHOLE WORD, "TEMPEST" AND THAT'S NOT EVEN A COMPLAINT, JUST A STRANGE ENGLISH TEACHER IDIOCINCRACY
@exxodus29 LOL...I agree....Kim Burrell is a major distraction to me. It's one of the main reasons I don't listen to her. I saw on your channel that you had Mahalia Jackson on there...now there is someone whom I don't think I have ever heard sing a bad, or wrong note.
coloratura soprano is much higher than that. Have you seen an Opera? Cause Beverly Sills voice is much higher... do ya homework before you start using grown folks words....lol
baby i not getting into a battle with you. so you can hold on to all of that attitude. pls look up what the whistle register actually is and then proceed.
ummm no to be critical... but the sopranos are doin somethin real wierd, the altos are flat and the tenors arent blending well... and they all look like old ladies.. the long black skirts,,, not a good look for singers... love the song tho.. one of my favs
Vanessa Bell Armstrong is amazing. I love her tone so much.
Her riffs are insane! LOVE HER!!!
Right! Ppl think Kim Burrell is the queen
I love vanessa Bell Armstrong songs they are so inspiring to me. When I am down her music inspires me let's me know that I can make it through anything with the help of God. Keep singing.

Someone from the USA played this song on an audio cassette many years ago, when Vanessa did not record an album yet which included "He looked beyond my fault ..."
He said she will make it big and for years I was looking for stuff in South Africa. Got out of just music into ministry and technology brought her around. Her surname "Armstrong"confused me a bit.
I think it was in the 70's. We played Andrae Crouch in our gospel band then.
No-one could emulate Vanessa Bell.

Wonderful. She never fails and her singing looks effortless.
Sister Vanessa , James Cleveland called and his said "Get it Girl". But it was in a deep raspy voice. :-) .. She does this song sooooo much justice!
One of my favorite "old school" female vocalists. She is sooo cold!
I wouldn't take anything from Vanessa. Some people like apples,... some like oranges, some don't care for either (preference). I loveeeee Vanessa, her runs, riffs, etc! I tossed my mouse about five times before it got to 8:13, then I jumped out my chair and scared the entire office. Nessa, done got the whole office thinkin' I'm crazy now! LOL, I love this video!
It's a crime for a song like this to end.
SHE WAS 53 ON HERE!!!! AND SHE LOOKS BETTER THAN MY EX LMBO!!!!!!
Powerful!
That's a sharp lil' haircut she got there!

@exxodus29 of the storm, and the awesomeness of God. I look up words all the time. Not because I don't know them, but I want to understand them better. FYI-- I encourage and most times insist that my students look up words, especially words they think they already know.

That dramatic stuff in the background is getting on my nerves lol
I agree, like just sincerely sing the song. Why gospel got to be extra like we want realness. Okay maybe I'm saying too much don't want to offend anybody

how do u describe vanessa's vocal range...colatura soprano?
Look at Zebulon Ellis from Sunday Best. lol
:41-:43 classic VBA style lol

Sang to Jesus Vanessa!
am i the only one who recognized Zebulon Ellis in the choir? lol!
I’m 8 years late, but you right-it’s Zebulon.
@exxodus29 LOL...I agree....Kim Burrell is a major distraction to me. It's one of the main reasons I don't listen to her. I saw on your channel that you had Mahalia Jackson on there...now there is someone whom I don't think I have ever heard sing a bad, or wrong note.

Vanessa Bell is not a soprano and never has been one.
