I've sent a couple of Case knives back due to very poor quality, so, I'd never buy one again, without handling it first, (which is unlikely, as we have very few knife shops here in England.).. ie, most of the knife purchases are online for us,, 🇬🇧
For that price, fit and finish is everything. QC should have sent this one back before you ever had to. I could see liner separation happening after inspection, but not the other stuff. Love the design though!
If you want a company to do well, you hold them to the standard that they advertise themselves at. It’s small details, but, for the amount you paid, the quality should be better. Have a great day.
It's disappointing. In fact, it was disappointing when Case, a few years back, created their special line of premium knives, conceding (to my mind at least) that their standard production failed to meet their much-advertised quality claims. This proves that their Fit/Finish and Quality Control has problems, and that those problems are endemic to the company. Ultimately, Case will only solve this problem with a change in culture. This means a guy looking at every knife before it goes out of the factory door, a guy who understands what quality is about. It means a guy who isn't afraid to throw a faulty knife back at its maker with a reminder about the terms of their contract. It means having more respect for your customers. It is such a shame because, like you, I want to see good products from Case - they can certainly make a great knife when they want to. Here in the UK it is seldom possible to see a knife before you buy it, and I've sent back 4 in every 5 Case knives for failing to meet basic standards. Compare this to fewer than 1 in 20 GEC knives.
That's a real bummer . I was really looking forward to checking this one out . But no one can blame you for wanting to get a perfect knife for that price range . Especially since you can get many other wonderful knives made in America that don't have those issues for a fraction of the price . The Bill Ruple name without the Bill Ruple quality doesn't equal $539
Case never recovered fro their "collectable days" when they Madde so called commemorative knives for everything from Elvis to John Deer tractors and country western stars. They became the beanie baby knife makers. Case succeeded in making a joke out of themselves.
Definitely a beautiful pattern, I've been eyeing the abelone variant but have held off for this exact reason, if I can't see it in person I can't bring myself to put that money out. Sorry bud, but at least you can get your $$$ back. How is the lock up? Any wobble at lockout? Just curious...
For $539USD that's utterly unacceptable mate, for perspective that's around $830Aud, & I can tell you if I saw day light on a knife that was nearly a thousand dollars here in Australia, IT WOULD be going back. Fact is that if some of the cheaper knife companies can offer the kind of fit & finish that they offer, & deliver on & THEY DO, then these bigger companies haven't got a leg to stand on, I understand your disappointment mate, truthfully, I would be disappointed too! Fact I'm sitting here with my morning coffee looking down at my selection of available knives for edc today & not 50cms away from my right hand is a traditional buck slip joint trapper with PHENOMINAL fit & finish & it cost me $70Aud & is perfect in every way, point is that when you're paying $70.00 & getting a knife with phenomenal action & fit n finish, then someone else is frustratingly paying $539Usd OR $830Aud & disappointingly receiving a big brand knife with truly substandard fit n finish there's something very, very wrong. I would be sending it back or better still taking it back in person & respectfully letting them know it's just not acceptable, because its bloody not!!! It's what happens when companies get big, they start worrying more about annual profits & less & less about customer satisfaction, & before you know it....BOOM here we are!!!
I don't know what the value is for basically a regular production knife just with a big name on the box. A "collaboration" needs to have at least a reasonable approximation of the handmade fit and finish to match the massive price, not just a big name on the box.
Looked at 3 of these at Smoky Mountain Knife Works a few weeks ago - all 3(all Carbon Fiber covers) in the store failed to even lock up. The backlock would easily disengage with blade pressure. They had to send all 3 back. Glad I got to check one out design wise, because I love Bill Ruple and his knives, but I don't think Case knives will never be $500 level knives.
it looks to me like a counterfeit, I have seen some that even experts could not tell apart from the real deal. that is a big problem when you get into high value knives 30 40 percent of them are copies made in china and shipped to American companies then the American companies sale them as the real deal to save money, that is why I stoped buying high end knives, hard to sale as well because no one knows if they are fake or real, and the piece of paper they come with stating they are real is worthless, there is a lot of greed in the high end knife market, trust me.i don't know if it is just me but the quality of American knives have went down, most of these companies are staying afloat by their name.
This is why I'm so afraid to buy Case knives sight unseen. The problem is there's so many limited edition variants that you can ONLY buy sight unseen or else they'll be sold out and only re-sold by price gougers. You would think for five hundred dang dollars they would've brought their A game.
That’s too many issues for the price, bigger question is why Case even selling a 500$ blade when they ought to give the guys design a full release at 100+ and sell many more even with their normal flaws.
So I have a whole video about guys constantly Nit-Picking their knives in videos…. HOWEVER-I give you a full pass on this one. A $500+ knife should be absolutely PERFECT. Honestly I would never spend $500 on a knife. But for that price it should be perfect. I agree. I have narrowed my scope to older, not necessarily “vintage”, but older made knives and I either trade with people I trust or occasionally I’ll buy from eBay only if I can see good pics and communication with seller. Case’s current QC dept is atrocious.
@@TroyLauffenburger so to get Bill Ruple knife, you would have to buy a custom and it would run you a couple grand. This Case collaboration would be worth every penny if the knife was done right. Remember that price doesn’t always reflect materials used. You can buy a wood handled knife with 154cm all day long for under $100 but who is gonna care about it 40 years from now? Ruple legacy and Case together should be a knockout combo, but they just missed the mark!
@@ofthedawn many factors at play, but basically it’s a limited run that has been manufactured by wire edm which takes more time and is more costly and only handled by a select few at Case. It’s also the first collaboration with Bill Ruple, so it will be highly collectible. It’s just too bad that it wasn’t given more attention to details or I would have been very happy with it
These axle handle knives are extremely overpriced. Even if they didn't have any manufacturing defects they still wouldn't be worth it. The materials they are made out of are mid range at best. They're not even high end. You pay a very large tax for Bill Ruple's name.
I agree for the most part, but considering this is the first collab with Bill Ruple and Case, the ones that have good fit and finish will have tremendous value to collectors in the future. Materials used do t always reflect what people will pay. If this was done right, I would have been thrilled with it
That kind of money for a case knife is crazy.
It’s a colab knife it’s ment for collecting it’s one of 100 handmade will have flaws I hope they helped you out.

I agree 100% those are minor defects but at that Price point no way. Not worth it. Thats a $135 knife now. Thanks for sharing this.

I wouldn’t give 5 hundred for any new Case especially with wood . It would need wooly mammoth before I’d pay that .
mammoth ivory is extremely plentiful, it's not really any more expensive for the maker to use than wood or bone
