- On her last trip to Canada from her home in Belfast, 85 year old Helen Roseveare sat with Ron Brown and his brothers for an informal conversation and reflection of their Congo missionary lives. Dr Helen had been the Brown famly doctor.
I don't know why this lady and her videos came up in my UA-cam feed today but I know God has a good reason.
She's such a charming person. What a lovely testimony. I had never heard of her before and I don't speak of her in the past tense bc she's more alive now than she ever was here on Earth. I wish so much that I could have met her but I will get to know her well. She's not in our past. She's in our future.
I saw her on utube about 2 days ago and have been blessed to hear a number of her videos.She spoke at a Bible College i attended many years ago,she is so openly child like and full of humility ,her reward us great in heaven
Same thing happened to me…she came up on my feed…her scripture Philippians 3:10 has hit my spirit…I believe God wants to say something to me before my mission trip next week! 🙏🏽✝️🙏🏽
Thats how I feel. My friend lost her daughter and dog and I know she wants to know. And I will share this message with her.

There were many single "Victorian ladies" in my life as a child. Like Helen single because of the 2 world wars. They ran missionary societies, soup kitchens, cared for ailing parents, and as they aged served as extra grandmothers to me and other children making us feel special, taking us for a streetcar ride, or to see the great War memorial statues. I miss them even now as I age as friends, confidantes and inspirations. I thank God for them all.

She never said she was single because of the war. Single women aren't valuable only for the service they provide for others. Not everyone is called to marriage

I met Helen when she spoke at our church, what an absolutely lovely woman! I was so moved by her unwavering love for our Savior...and now she is with Him❤ thank you Helen for showing us single ladies that Jesus is ENOUGH.
Helen has become a great encourager of my faith. I want to be a strong as she is and to be chosen to suffer for Christ.

I had the wonderful privilege of meeting Dr. Roseveare in the late 80's when she spoke several times at my college. God used her mightily as He used her to speak to our hearts and minds. She was such a blessing.

She said a number of important things with her delightful sense of humor and warmth! Two things in particular, are key.
She fell in love with Jesus and she never wanted anyone else. I get that. Ppl who are called to live their life being single, are happy and contented with that. They don't have any desire to get married. If a person has a desire to get married, it is given to them by God. He puts that desire on the inside of them.

Some of us have perhaps been conditioned by society to think a single woman is ‘on the shelf’ or is a bitter spinster who has never known love - or the idea that if you don’t have sex you are missing out of the feelings of ‘being in love’ and experiencing physical pleasure - that you are somehow lacking because you don’t have a husband and children. Nothing could be further from the truth. Dedicating all your love to Jesus and forsaking physical arms around you, is a high calling - especially if, as in Helen’s case, your God-given mission is entirely to give to others outside your family circle. It is a noble sacrifice indeed.

I hope you speak about the beauty of female singleness to the fellow Christians. Even pastors ignore and cannot comprehend the essential freedom of singleness and they fall in the trap of carnal immoral activities.

Single parent for nearly 10 years. I have no family and lost a church family and decades old friends due to a very dysfunctional birth family where I was labeled the scapegoat-lied about, character assassination, rejection etc... When she struck her hand on the table and said "Singleness is never a second best".... I felt that with all my being. I am ok with not being married now but it is exhausting with the responsibility-everything....finances, housekeeping, running my kids to school, doctors, after school stuff, grocery, working 2 jobs for money, emotional, physical, financial wellbeing...just carrying all this on my shoulders with no support and then feeling ostracized on top of everything. Its like no one sees how utterly difficult this is or says encouraging things to me. My birthday is in a few days and this sounds pathetic, but I know I won't be celebrated. I don't feel cared for and that is hard to keep going with the pace I am on now. I try to make sure my kids feel loved and special but I am exhausted. I am an older parent now and am struggling with physical issues and just being mentally and emotionally destroyed. I went to a football game this past Friday to watch my girls in the band and no one, even though I am known, speaks to me or asks me to sit with them...I just stand there feeling completely alone. I have just made up my mind that I am going and will show up regardless if I am accepted or not. It's hard and I hope someone will pray for my family and me. I have no friends or family and when I say that I mean, no one...please don't feel sorry for me but lift my family up in prayer please. Trusting God today to reveal everything to me-my own sin, my own unforgiveness...where I need to change. I want to have the peace lovely Helen Roseveare clearly has.

I met Helen on a WEC 'mission and me' weekend (Worldwide Evangelisation for Christ). She was one of the speakers and talked about her experiences in Africa, but what impressed me most was that there was a call on the tannoy for some help with washing up dishes, and she stood up and went off straight away to help.

I read her autobiography years ago, she was building a Bible College, whilst being a medical doctor to lots of people all the time, but she literally got into the building project with both hands every spare moment.

I have God and I'm so content so happy and fulfilled I have no desire to get married again. Just want to be a good role model to all that know me. I pray for God to strengthen me as I try to set good examples. I'm nothing without The Lord my desire is to learn more about His ways. To even think about a relationship gets me of course. I'm so content in The Lord He is our Real True Destiny 🙏
Marriage is not for everyone. It is a higher calling to be surrendered to our Lord Savior Jesus Christ. So complete, so peaceful. God protects and provides for you. Let go and let Him direct your path.

I say with Paul, I wish that all of you were single like me. I'm so happy with the Lord Jesus alone. The contentedness of blessed singleness is amazing. Singleness should get the honour it deserves because it is a very unique privilege. I wish men and women both could see this.

@@steflondon88 There are more than one theory of what "the desire of women" means. One is the one you propose. Another one is that it refers to Tammuz, like in Ezekiel 8:14.

I have seen your same comment in so many places, that's why I asked you how you think it helps others.
You write it in quotation marks, as if spoken by God. But we don't find that direct quote in the Bible. Don't you think we should be careful about adding to God's Word?
In Matthew 24 we see that the man of sin will declare himself 'god'. I haven't found anywhere that he will 'announce himself homosexual'.
Let's just gather the clues God has given us, but lets not be too quick to draw a full conclusion just yet.
If we are watchful, and stay close to Jesus, we will understand, when the time comes.
And let's not put words in God's mouth.
"Fell in love with Jesus". Jesus told men to hate their wives. Luke 14 verse 26. Jesus would not have returned her love.
LOL Youre taking that verse out of context. It doesn't mean direct hatred - it means if you choose your wife or husband ABOVE God. We put God first, and our marriages are more healthy.

To what purpose? So she must come to you for 'peace' & recognize her dependence on you? This lady is a wonderful Christian lady. She has faith, worship, and I sure praise in her. The way she speaks about God is just wonderful.
