- This is a clip of Jimmy, Jerry Jeff Walker and Greg "Fingers" Taylor on The Texas Connection back in 1991. Jimmy talks a little bit about Phil Clark on whom the song "A Pirate Looks At Forty" was based.
Over 40 victim of fate....I feel that line more than ever today. Rest in peace Jimmy....the world has lost a true TREASURE.
The best ever 😭
Over 66 victim of fate for me now.
I miss him already.
And u can make the line change to 50, 60, whatever...its great.....one of the best lines in music
You and me both, brother.
This song really hits home because I live on a sailboat in the Florida Keys and I feel like a pirate every day. RIP Jimmy Buffett.....
Good for you. I lived aboard in Baltimore and intended to head down. Alas, I'm happily married with two sons I can't get enough of. I still stare South and dream, though
Damn , what I'd give for such a life
Love this song so much. Rest In Peace, Jimmy.
Long live the King
I just found out he passed
Amen
Thank you so much for posting this. ❤❤❤😂❤❤ my hero
Amen.😊 He was and will always be a great human being.
Not a lot of musicians whose passing has brought tears to my eyes...Jimmy is one. Thanks for the great times, thanks for the great music.
My same sentiments.
Same , I’m still sad . He is a major loss ! We were blessed to be inspired by him
There are many that passed that made me cry but I am still so upset at his passing and want to defend the way of life by that I mean enjoying the beach, nature, and the few people you can call friends, and songs he sang stay alive and part of musical and southern states and island history for many years to come. Thank Jimmy and band.
I agree his passing made me cried and I’m still upset…RIP Jimmy you are missed
Agree..also Bubbles Up
the world's a whole different place because of Jimmy Buffett....thanks so much
Don't blame Jimmy for the state we're in, Obama set race relations back 70 years. 😏
Rest easy Jimmy. Thanks for all the years of amazing music 💞😔
"Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years to late, the cannons don't thunder there's nothing to plunder I'm an over forty victim of fate, ......life ain't to late" maybe the best line ever in a song! I think every guy has thought this at one time or another. Rest in peace you old pirate!!
“Arriving too late, arriving too late”

I've sang this song all over the place on a guitar, and I've never even been to America. RIP Jimmy
Awesomeness, keep singing! 🎶🦜🎶
Thank you! We are not all Gun slinging cowboys, land of happiness
Come to America mfr
His duet with Zac Brown "Knee Deep" there is a line that Jimmy says that really hit home with me and makes me tear up every time I hear it, "wrote a note, said be back in a minute, bought a boat and I sailed off in it, don't think anybody's gonna miss anyway". Sir you are so wrong....I miss you every day. RIP Jimmy, I hope that it is always 5 o'clock for you.
RIP- Rest Easy, Thank You for doing so much for our free spirits. You helped me through my career as a police officer. I never forgot my place thanks to you.
R.I.P to a true legend! From one Parrothead to another, may you sail heavens oceans for eternity! Thank you sir for all the great music and great memories! I was blessed to have seen you live,!
A pirate lives forever
No one can match Jimmy's ability to set a mood. Brilliant lyrics.
Bravo! Well said!
Two songs in, and I’m ready to be Jimmy Buffett, this guy is a legend
Love you Jimmy. RIP we'll be listening to your music forever. Thank you for sharing your stories and talent.
Hi there
How are you?
My Dad who did 30 years in the Navy loved this song. TY Jimmy and Rest in Peace.
Just heard that he passed away and immediately turned to this song. What a gem he is and was. So sad to hear he’s gone now.
So sad
Can't live 4ever, nor would I want 2. Respect the man who lives his dream🧡
I did the exact same. Saw that he passed and came straight to this one.
One of my all time favorite songs of my 72 years on this planet. Thanks Jimmy. I'll miss you. RIP
71 here and I’m with ya on this song👍👍
65 here and I feel like y'all do...@@Dstrbrdgrnd
Can we take a second to give the dude on the harmonica a round of a plause👏🏻
Fingers Taylor, the original Coral Reefer and a good guy
Yes Jimmy, this is my favorite too. So relieved you are no longer in your body afflicted with horrible pain. You are free to fly now. " Fly fly little wing, fly beyond imagining.". You will be greatly missed but we thankfully have your music to be blessed with for generations to come. Sleep in peace unless heaven has some good weed! If that is true, then party on my friend. I raise my glass to you because it is truly 5:00 somewhere!!!❤❤😢❤❤🎉❤❤🥳❤❤
Well said. My favorite song as well. (Skin cancer that turned into Lympomia. Same with my twin sister.) This is so sad.
Hi there
How are you?
I loved Jimmy Buffett and saw him many times over the years. We saw him at Gilley’s in Pasadena Texas. His album A1A had just come out, my friend Michael Betker bedazzled a shirt with A1A on the back. We were two tables away from the stage, Jimmy saw the shirt and insisted he had to have it. One of our other friends had a shirt on over a t-shirt so she gave it to Michael so he could give Jimmy the shirt. He was a phenomenally talented individual not only was he a great musician and songwriter, he was also a very successful author and a shrewd businessman. What a loss.
Not only my favorite of his songs...easily one of the best songs ever written. Anthem for a lot of people. Rest in peace, Jimmy!
I want to know something had you ever heard this song and if so did you truly like it and understand it
And I hope you see the things that I do that we are so much alike and we have a bond first off , you are such a good person that you will go wo and gladly give it to a loved one yes we are both simple people who will give way more but at the same time we are complex or weird and others can't figure ua out
We don't seek Fortune or fame we only want respect and love but now that I'm older I only want it from you and I want you to know something if you created that story to hurt me don't keep on because he isn't like me and he doesn't know how I am ab 6:56 ut you and he's been g😅
Good to me but he definitely has my kindness confused with weakness so I hope everyone involved knows that I'm the same fella who was passed out drunk and set out on a mission to find a innocent man for your honor he doesn't want that
If you had surgery I'm gonna be so angry because you didn't lmk I want to take care of you
i wasn't ready for this news Jimmy is sailing into heaven Rest in Peace my friend Thank you for the good times
You'll be sadly missed Jimmy. My favorite of his songs, 'canons don't thunder there's nothing to plunder' .... 'arriving too late' magic tunes
RIP sweet Jimmy. Thank you for 50 years of incredible music.
as a sailor...it is amazing that he created a musical sailing vessel in which millions of folks managed to climb aboard for a one lovely cruise...we here in the carribean are anchored up...mourning our late friend...kiwi loves you
Rest in paradise to an absolute legend. The world will be a little less brighter and a little bit colder without him.
I truly believe that too cause Bubba brought & gave JOY where ever he traveled. Plus that super attitude & HUGE smile.
So easy to LIKE this man. Very humble. Never came off as pretentious but he off all people knew he had forever young ❤.
R.I.P. Jimmy Buffet. My favorite song of yours. Thanks for all the stories
Sail on you magical pirate! Thank you for sharing your art. It will continue on with love and appreciation!
I was able to meet Jimmy once, and as the pirate he was, I asked him where were his buccaneers? And he looked bewildered, and I asked again. He said he wasn’t sure, and I said they’re on your buckin’ head! He laughed and slapped my shoulder. A million dollar moment…RIP Mr Buffett ❤❤
Great story HAHa
Doesn’t make any sense but alright
One of my favorites of his. They'll never be another, Jimmy Buffett. RIP.
Rest in Peace Jimmy and Fingers..what stories..what lives
Great to see Jerry Jeff walker alongside Our favorite skipper Jimmy. We're all getting older ,heading to that great island in the sky.
🎶🎶🧜♀️ I used to drive for 5 sixes in Key West and would often drive Jimmy Buffett around. Rest in Peace 🌺🧜♀️🎶🎶

RIP JJW
A friend of mine introduced me to Jimmy back in the early 80s he’s gone now, but he left his influence that I mean thank you man
RIP Jimmy the world is a little more grey today without you.

Rest in peace Jimmy. This was my favorite song of his.😢
If Jerry only knew how much we miss him, He wrote so many great songs, he doesn't get the recognition he deserves, RIP JJW, we love ya, Jimmy got us through a lot of hard times
Rest in peace jimmy you were the biggest part of my childhood
Saw him at Red rocks in the rain. He stood out there in a poncho and played and made fun of the band cowering in the shelter. Respect.
RIP to a legend. Thanks Jimmy..!!
OMG Jerry Jeff Walker and Jimmy Buffet on the same stage. I would have given my right arm to be in the audience. This is fantastic.
Christopher Nubel
I've seen them both live several times but never together. I agree with you. They're old writing buddies, wrote Railroad Lady together for Willie. All 3 have recorded it themselves.
Saw them together live at Dallas. Great show
Me too
Truly love this man ❤so grateful to have him in my life (since the early years 😉)I miss you JB😢
So much of my early life was affected by Jimmy's music and the world he created for me. Jimmy is a huge contributor to the person I am today. Hope he's in the paradise he envisioned.
During covid, i sold my house and moved my family to the NC coast. I bought a boat, and i've spent 2 summers now playing pirate with my kids every weekend. I found this song when Jimmy died.... just 2 weeks after i turned 40.
New favorite song.
Rest in peace and love, Jimmy. Thanks for the amazing music.
An icon. RIP Jimmy. The modern pirate.
Spent many a teenage night driving around rural Mississippi listening to Jimmy man them songs take me back.
I've sailed the Keys, moved to the FL beach, changed my life as a result of his stories. Life is too short, live it! God Speed JB.
RIP JIMMY, YOU HAD SOME OF THE GREATEST!!! THIS IS A PERSONAL FAVORITE, THANK YOU!!!
On our boat at the lake, or around our pool, we ALWAYS had JB playing on a loop - still will now more than ever! Such a loss.😢
I'll never get tired of this song. It brings me so much happiness. And all the concerts I've seen since 1993.
Also
Rest in peace Jimmy. I grew up listening to your music in the '80's and saw you twice in Cincinnati. So many good times were had listening to your music.
Vaya con Dios Jimmy, thank you for the music and good vibes.
Fair winds and following seas.
Goddess blessings, Jimmy. Thank you for the music.❤🙏🎶✨️🎵
Hello 👋
Nice meeting you.
Were all gonna miss this great legend! R.I.P. Jimmy Buffet!!! Well keep right on listening to the gifts you left us!
Always be yourself, unless you can be a Pirate, then always be a Pirate!!
I couldn't agree more! Thank you Dave
Substitute Mermaid. Sub 'Mingo.
Haha!
This boy was 17 in 1991 with crazy mentors showin me the way...and their fave was Mr Buffet...oh, thank you for the American histooory!!!
Grew up listening to Jimmy's music and it was fun to listen to him grow older right along with us. Have had multiple conversations with friends about who we thought would, or even could, pick up the mantle when Jimmy finally put the guitar down. I guess we'll get to find out sooner rather than later.
Thanks for the great memories Jimmy. You will be missed.
RIP Jimmy. Your music will live on, Pirate ☠️🍹 🌊
Jimmy Buffet runs in my blood. Cheers to you, Phil! ❤️
Hello there
R.I.P Jimmy ❤
Thank you for the music and memories. I'm still in a little bit of shock as I write this because you kept things so private the most of us had no idea about your cancer. You left people with joy, songs from your heart, and moments in their life where they can remember where they were when they first heard a song like this.
I will continue to wear my last mango boat works shirts and support the charities that you love dearly. Blessings to your family and friends.
I've been watching Jimmy Buffett's music. Love Them! I'm getting different varieties if his songs. Love the live versions where you can hear him talking prior to the song. So many variations!! All the more to enjoy listening! Rest In Peace Jimmy!! You Are Sadly Missed!! Love to hear Jimmy's music and to have them jog memories back then. **sigh**
Great song, by a Great singer and songwriter that is, and will be missed forever! R.I.P. Jimmy, I hope your enjoying a cheeseburger in paradise and signing your songs on a beach, smiling and laughing!
I grew up a surfer and Jimmy's music was always with me whether I was in San Diego or Mexico or Hawaii. I truly miss you my friend 💗
❤ Rest in Peace 🙏🕊️
Hello Barbara
Nice meeting you.
I always loved this song. Being a fan since I was a tween in the mid-70s, as we lived and sailed on the bay across the street from our house, I loved this song! But the over 40 victim of fate seemed like to infinity! Now I am that over 40 victim of fate many times over. Love you, Jimmy!
We Don’t Know What we have lost. !! Thank You Jimmy.. 🥰🥰🤗🇬🇧🇺🇸🏄🏻♂️🌞🏝🍺
What's to say? You all know he blessed us with his given talent. 🙏
Dave performed this in honor of Jimmy on 09/02/2023, and I was fortunate enough to be there for it, and it was a beautiful tribute opener in love and respect for this ol’ pirate.
Rest in peace Jimmy. Thank you for giving us the best island chill music
Hi there
Thank you are the only two words that suit. RIP. I shed a tear today.
Woke up to the worst news this morning💔 hope you’re sailing easy, Jimmy, up in heaven
Not sure if this is my favorite but it is top 3! Love you Jimmy - thanks for all of the good times!!! Love you man!
Love this song - gonna miss ya Jimmy. Catch you on the other side my friend
The anthem of my college years in the early 80's. Now it brings back fond memories of a late best friend!
This was a common idea on a friends sailboat on the Great Lakes in the same time period. I was in college and would spend the weekend on his boat in the summer.
👍🏻☠
Jimmy in his prime ... well, maybe not. He's still "in his prime"! I love this video. Takes me back to the days of his live album, which still runs through my head in idle times. I forget about work, and play a Jimmy Buffet song in my mind. Makes me happy. I'll see Jimmy Buffet in heaven some day. He is the man
I guess I just want to say that he is someone I can really relate to. I love sailing, partying, and the sunshine :)
Great Solutions

Hah, remember the “good ol days” when tickets weren’t $100+ a pop? More power to him if he can command those prices and still fill the venues. I still like his songs, just long for the simpler times as an old man is want to do. I first saw Jimmy and Jerry Jeff in Tuscaloosa, AL back it the 70s. I think “Fingers” was there too, but that was about it and you know what? That was all they needed back then. Just an old man reminiscing...
It's kind of funny that you say "in his prime". I always thought that his prime was the mid-seventies. That's when he started trying to shed his country reputation and pretend that he was a sailor. It made him a whole lot of money.
To those here in Sept 2023. Blend one up and drink to Jimmy. Fins up
As my brother the sailor said, Jimmy Buffet was the sound track of my life, will truly be missed!
Almost a freshwater conch!. I lived in Key West for about 6 years in the 70s when I was in the Navy. I loved the place. Had I not been a Texan, I would have retired there!
The one , the only, the great, started at 19 almost 50, now enjoying this music. Nothing beat being there in person when I was 40! And then for those who like to read he’s quite the author. Will really make ya wanna sell everything and move to Caribbean!
This pirate is rolling up on 60 way too fast. Still smiling and leaning into the wind. Thanks Jimmy for the smiles and laughter.
Rest in peace pirate. Hope youre sailing on smooth waters.
RIP Greg Taylor. You left a lot of smiles.
Jimmy we loved you and all your great songs you will be missed
Absolutely love this song, it speaks to me. My favorite song.
My uncle's favorite song. They played this song on the beach at a beautiful ceremony as a tribute to him. Margarita next to his ashes and all. Heres to you; Miss you Lee. I hope you are in your sloop somewhere in the sky.
One of my favorite songs ever since i was a kid listening to my dad's Jimmy Buffet tapes.
Exactly me too…makes me appreciate even more now
RIP Jerry . . . .what a character .. . . obviously close friends.
❤ We will miss you.
Hi Lynn
How are you?
God speed Jimmy! I pray we meet on the beach our Father has prepared for us.
It just doesnt get much better than this. Blue skies and tail winds, RIP
Thanks, Jimmy. RIP sir.💔
Legendary performance! Jimmy & Jerry Jeff are incredible in their own right. ... gotta go fishing I’m down to rock bottom again!
