There's plenty of good eateries on John Street and also up on Patrick Street. You can also book online for the Smithwicks experience and also Canice's Cathedral and the round tower tour there. I would also recommend that you not use the Coach Road to access the Cathedral as there's a much better and quite stunning entrance on Velvet Lane at the traffic crossing just past Cakeface. Don't forget the beautiful Canal Walk which takes you past old Mills and runs by the River Nore and the old canal. Beautiful scenery and river views. The Black Abbey is a must see also as its a beautiful example of an early Norman Church. Accessible from Abbey Lane opposite the Smithwick Brewery. Up that lane is one of the old gate arches to the city too.

its every two hours which is good for ireland,but not every half an hour.I live in another part of ireland but i have family in kilkenny so it is route i take fairly often.Dublin castle is more of a palace than a castle and now its a government building of the irish state whereas kilkenny castle is a bit of both and i think its owned by the people of kilkenny rather than the state which is probably why its better maintained
