  • Many people hate Charles Murray.
They call him “dangerous” because he wrote about racial IQ differences.

Angry protestors fail to recognize that Murray is not a white supremacist.
He’s a thoughtful researcher who has published more than a dozen scholarly books about things like the impact of welfare, the pursuit of happiness, and the meaning of libertarianism.
Some of his work influenced presidents.
One of his books influenced my way of thinking.
The video above is my full interview with Murray.

As a black kid I was shamed for being a "nerd" even though I was highly intelligent. I stopped putting in the effort trying to be cool and barely graduated with a 2.2 GPA. I was born to a 14 year old mother and my father was killed in the streets. I didn't go to college, but I still made something of myself. I used to buy into these tropes about racism until I learned to investigate for myself, and it made a HUGE difference.
My son is brilliant though. I'll be damned if I allow him to not live up to his potential because of victim thinking. Charles Murray presented facts, but these people are too emotional to hear or investigate for themselves. It comes from somewhere...

No, Charles Murray didn't present any fact at all, his book has been debunked over and over for 30 years and he just like to play the victim about "people calling him racist". There's a whole book published the year after the Bell Curve which is a collection of various scientific papers (peer-reviewed, unlike Murray's work), plus many others papers you can find online, you can also find a very well-made 2 hours+ youtube video summarizing the main criticisms.
You can teach your son the value of personal responsibility without pseudo-science.

People all too easily concentrate on race, as if there is something inherently superior/inferior about this group or that group. Its a con. Poverty is what creates depravity, just as much in poor white areas as poor black areas. Making race the issue is a racist and deliberate smokescreen. If everyone is talking race, then nobody is looking at the real problem. The Right wing greed that causes and worsens poverty in the United States today.

@@lorenzobarducci8353 Are you saying that the IQ gaps aren't true? Because critics of Murray (like Professor Flynn and Robert Plomin) acknowledge that they are. Are you saying that genetics playing a role isn't true? Because Robert Plomin acknowledges that the answer is 'clear': genetics play a substantial role in performance on intelligence tests between different groups. Are you saying that intelligence isn't at all heritable? Because numerous studies indicate that it is. Those are Murray's central contentions, which his critics largely accept. They just come to different conclusions about why those gaps exist, although their conclusions don't seem to disprove the role of genetics. So I am curious as to how Murray's entire thesis can be debunked if many of his critics accept the above three points? Murray is not infallible, so I quote Robert Plomin's article for Scientific American, as he is very careful to acknowledge the role of environmental factors. Yet he still begins by saying the answer is 'clear' when it comes to the substantial influence of genetics in performance on intelligence tests across groups. Can you clarify further which part of Murray's thesis has been proven completely untrue?

And, well, those of us who are intelligent AND have a spine will continue to discuss them. Science isn't worth doing unless you're willing to take the bad with the good. And here, it's not even necessarily all that bad of a thing - so what if the average IQ of every single race doesn't JUST SO HAPPEN to be EXACTLY the same?? Why would anyone expect it to? The difference is most likely cultural than anything else, which should be GOOD news because it means you can overcome it!
It's such nonsense. It's not like this guy DECIDED he wanted black people to have lower IQs ON AVERAGE, you know? He simply OBSERVED it as a fact.
I've always found it funny how the people who get so offended by this are continually proving that they are the ones who SHOULD be offended by it, if you catch my drift (they're usually the low IQ types who don't even understand what an average is). I've always found that humorous. It's like if I were to yell out in the streets, "I hate stupid people!" And then, after my words entering the ears of one of those people, that person walks right up to me and says, "now you take that back, Mister, that's me you're talking about!" But you can't take it back because they've just validated your claim, themselves. Lol

Becoming a republican for Trump was a natural change because the Overton window has been shifting. So, just like McCain and Romney, I didnt see him as a real republican.
What kept me from voting for him in 2020 was that I didnt think he'd lose, but I also saw his stance of dealing with Covid and putting out the suggestion of shutting the country down. His push to have the vaccine makers be immune for pushing a faulty product. His comment "take the guns and then go through due process". These were the reasons I didnt vote for him.

I studied the peer-reviewed research on race, IQ, and quality-of-life outcomes EXTENSIVELY in college. Here is a summary of what I learnt:
Black Americans who attend church regularly have similar quality-of-life outcomes to that of the general population.
Black Americans who live in predominately non-black areas - also have similar quality-of-life outcomes as that of the general population.
A greater predictor for futures success than YOUR education level, is the education level of YOUR PARENTS - because their behavior, attitudes, and problem-solving abilities will be the ones that you consciously and unconsciously emulate all through your life.

I've been a Welfare worker and I've been a Welfare case, and what I've seen is that most of the money allocated to Welfare *never goes into the pockets of the poor*. It goes into Welfare's own bureaucracy, as a sinecure for the lower middle-class. It would be cheaper and more efficient to replace Welfare completely with a revised (less than 10% of the bureaucracy) WPA/CCC/Workfare system -- coupled with free, effective birth-control and free vocational training with job placement.

My daughter told me this because she knew I liked Trump. After that moment I saw the writing on the wall. As a long-time libertarian, I recognize that the other side of the coin of free choice is the skill to choose well. As we teach youth -- they often shift from the victim mentality (adults are making all the decisions for me) to a mindset of sober empowerment (I have a lot of decisions to make and they will define my life). The government didn’t shrink in TRump’s first term. It grew considerably with a new wing to the military plus a lot other additions, and he piled up more debt in a single term than any president in history. Biden isn’t even going to match it. Yet you still claim to want reduced government? 🤦‍♂️
And term limits are just another example of trying to fix government with more arbitrary government rules. It’ll exacerbate the problem you’re trying to solve. You GOPers should let the libertarians lead the right for a while. Your way clearly hasn’t worked.

Because of bias and bigotry, the book is false. In it, it assumes the cultural definitions of races, the book explains this, but then proceeds to use biological assumptions over races, all the while ignoring what genetics has to say on the matter. Ignoring then, and even today. The reason why this is problematic should be obvious to any with ability. But further, the issue is that some readers walk away from the book thinking it said something it does not. It is a statistical, genetic, and political hack job of a book. And if curious, anyone could confirm what I've just written, but curiosity is always missing when people's preferences are at risk, funny how that works.

Yet, still they play every 'card' in the book when confronted on it, be it race, class, gender, so-called disability, etc. 5 years ago we decided to save all we can from working and move away from this lazy open-air, angry, prison. Honestly, it helps with weeding out my competition. It is easy to get welfare and hard to grind. I welcome the welfare because they really limit themselves with being broke all the time. It never pays to get a handout. Your options are limitless if you choose to earn and learn. When you open your own business(s) you are able to earn far more than welfare check, government assistance, etc. You have no ceiling on your earning potential. This is where the recipients of these welfare checks fail. Maybe it pays for your crappy house and crappy life...but you don't go anywhere. You stay in the ghetto life.

I just finished watching this video and I enjoyed it. Charles Murray's book on The Bell Curve and how his research has influenced people in office. I like how this answered the accusation of him having a prejudiced view of ethnic groups regarding IQ too.
Another thing is I also find full interview videos to be a lot more introspective to watch than the shorter version. It gives me a deep look into your guest's work and the topic compared to the shorter versions. But John, you or your team do a good job with editing for both types of videos so it doesn't really matter to me.
I believe that shorter videos of other subject matters and how they are presented are well done. I didn't know what Madisonian was until I watched this video. But those are some reasons why this channel is the best, so keep up the great work.

He and Reagan are/were absolutely right. America was once a great country but that can no longer be said. We have some of the highest addiction rates in the world. Obesity is a real pandemic. The number of people on welfare is at an all-time high. We have allowed our "leaders" to give the people the fish instead of teaching them how to fish. The level of laziness in our country is just depressing. There is a bum on every corner. People go shopping in their pajamas. People don't take care of their property. Lazy breads lazy which leads to low self-esteem which leads to more addiction which reinforces the horrible loop we are stuck in. I too see no recovery from this. I figure I have 25 to 30 years left on this planet. I just hope I still have some freedoms before I die. My daughter, on the other hand, well she's pretty much screwed.
