I don't know how many other people pointed this out, but the name (pronounced shi-gur) is a reference to Anton Chigurh, the main villain from "No Country for Old Men".
Say CHIGURE a few times repeatedly and you will start to think your making the sound of a train coming down the tracks, sort of like the sound yad make as a kid, that's the most logical explanation for its name in my opinion. Why would they name it after a character from no country for old men? Or am I missing something that connects it?
holy cow! this is an amazing figure. The engineering put into this is incredible. im not a fan of third party figures at all. But this is one I would put with my Masterpiece Figures. Great review. Thank you.
I remember visiting a friend in '84 or '85, whose young son had Astrotrain. I became obsessed with that thing! Was able t switch aback and forth from train to robot modes but never got the shuttle mode. I was in my mid 20's at the time and while it was fun to hang with the kid and play for awhile, I felt I was too old for those things. Damn, I wish I bought one for myself!
"The wheels on the train go round and round!" That part was my LOL of the day! Unfortunately, limited funds are keeping me from scooping up any Not-Transformers as of late. So I'm passing on this guy. Great review, as always!
Kubz Mango my grandaddy warned me about *THE BIG PURPLE CHOO CHOO OF DEATH* but i didn't belive him that night at 2am he was killed by *THE BIG PURPLE CHOO CHOO OF DEATH*
This toy is amazing great look(in all modes) great scale good articulation decent transform great/fun box and the single gun was the correct accessory to me. One of the best 2 toys in my collection
Great review as ever Emgo :) Just love the design effort that goes into these 3rd party Transformers. Especially this one; as you said you'd never tell the shuttle was a train and vice versa!
I just got this guy after years of wanting him....the head came mis-assembled...had to yank the pin out, flip a piece over, and then re-install the pin. I was sweating while doing it. Thought I was gonna break or irreparably bend the pin. Also, the bottom pieces on the wings in shuttle mode were mis-assembled. The left one was on the right side and vice versa. Had to switch those as well. Other than those two things, (which is actually kind of a big deal considering the toy was like 155 bucks), this thing is an awesome rendition of Astrotrain, and I've admired its engineering since the first time I saw a review of it.
It's neat how much thought they put into changing forms, but I feel it's so intricate that in the time it takes to form the shuttle nose cone, I could have walked from the trainyard to Cybertron (cue rimshot).
Lol g1 astrotrain used to make me laugh so hard I used to always think "can u imagine a friggin ROCKET TRAIN just doing the Thomas the tank engine choo choo while getting flung at u?" 😂
The greatest thing about Astrotrain and Blitzwing was the hints of their vehicle modes in their names Astrotrain: Astro = Space Shuttle, Train = Steam Locomotive Blitzwing: Blitz = Tank, Wing = Fighter Jet
The rear thruster assembly makes it look like Buran, the Russian space shuttle... the American shuttle has 5 thrusters, while the Russian one (originally) had 4... the Buran was also a smaller shuttle.
Chigurh is pronounced chig'ger (kinda like trigger) but I live in the South and our pronunciations are different. It's a weird name, 'cause down here, a chigger is a nasty little bug that lives in high grass until it clings to someone to feast on their blood. Itchy little bastards too....and hard to get rid of. AND this guy is way cooler than that. Oh right, Love the video. Love the figure. Keep up the good work. You ROCK!
Actually, CHIGURH is taken from Hebrew. However the actual spelling is ment to be more in line with "SHIGUR". It literally translates to "Launch" or "Blast Off".
That Astrotrain is a 1-4-2 class locomotive using the European way of classification of counting the pair of wheels by size from the front... someone more involved in trains than me could list the few real loco that used those!
Regarding the "stiff thrusters", you gotta remember @emgo316, with many new toys(transformers are no exception) there will almost always be still components that seem impossible to move. all you have to do is continuously work said component in order to loosen it up, it's what i do with all new transformers
Given I grew up loving thomas trains astrotrain has always been special to me for not only being the only train that's a Decepticon but also being my favorite color purple
Say his name repeatedly and you get maybe what they were getting at.....chigurh chigurh chigurh chigurh chigurh, choo chooooooohhhh.....great video man. Keep up the great work.
I got to say WOW! Astrotrain is amazing especially his transformation from a train too a space shuttle I can't tell the difference. He is way better than his G1 version.
I wonder if Fans toys will ever make an accurate Astroteain. This one is by far the biggest and less "breakable" I had transportation captain. The shuttle mode is spot on. I like the robot form as well. Trains a lot like this one.
I would have liked to see how the shuttle mode scales with legends size figures, because if I was going to display this guy in Shuttle mode, it would be with legends guys as I feel like that would be closer to an appropriate scale. They could concievably fit inside the shuttle, as they did in the g1 cartoon.
This guy is an absolute marvelous piece of engineering. We don't see enough figures with engineering like that. I especially love what they did with the arms. Too bad his estimated arrival date from BBTS is march... Also, I forgot how much I want MP Soundwave (because even though soundwaves make up 50% of my collection, I still don't have enough of them. They always turn out so well for some reason...)
I was watching your video on invisible and although are really nice looking toy, you said you don't know if he belongs on the shelve with the rest of the other masterpieces. Just because to you he doesn't feel like a Masterpiece figure. With that being said what are your thoughts on Chiguurh do you think he feels more like a original masterpiece or just the same quality as Invisible.
i just got this. I love it. no regrets. granted I did have to switch the head connection as it was put together backwards....but still only a slight issue.
i just realized that the robot mode and shuttle mode for Chigurh could be redeco'd/ retooled into Armada Jetfire.... but im not sure how the train mode would be incorporated into the figure
Astrotrian looks really nice, he was one of my favorite characters in g1. I love the way he looks and the way transforms to each mode so smoothly. And "the wheels on the train go round and round, round and round." Ha ha that was hilarious. He's the decepticon school bus. I love it.😄😄 HA. Great review emgo keep it up. And remember your awesome.😃
such a puzzle! ty for the review it helps alot, imo this has some weak looking plastic where it really matters, i'm talking about that black flat square panel that works as a cross articulation (you can see it clearly at 11:40). I've noticed this happens in other 3rd party's for example my Maketoys Downbeat also has this cheap plastic. Giving it some volume would help that "feeble" look go away I think. All in all I gotta say it looks awesome, love the colors!
I think he's a tad small for masterpiece. I'd hoped his jet mode would be at least as big as MP10 primes trailer, but I see how the manufacturers didn't want to make him to expensive so they sacrificed to avoid pricing him out of the market.
Amazing engineering! Great figure! Nice review thanks!

I know that the g1 optimus prime toy has parts forming and I know that shockwave in the tv show had parts forming so I think they're supposed to do that
"Big purple choo-choo of murder death" 😂😂😂
I need to “train” myself!!
Also the space shuttle of pure evil
I mean he's not wrong
I don't know how many other people pointed this out, but the name (pronounced shi-gur) is a reference to Anton Chigurh, the main villain from "No Country for Old Men".

100% agreed!

No Country for Old Decepticons

"Usually I have to use my tweezers to get that up."
Okay, Emgo316. It's a cool figure but I have one question..
Can he get everyone to Cybertron?
He probably can but he will need to jettison some weight first
@@LizardSuit I see what ya did there
Well considering if he's overloaded with junkie deceptions he won't make it to Digitalstar probably not very likely
@ astrotrain mass shifts
also have you seen war for cybertron seige astrotrian?
to be honest I want all the transformers you review.
@@kamewantor4594 that's ironic. You also have a furry profile picture, too.
Time for a fuckin crusade(gets in ultra magnus)
Furrys are the fucking cancer of life, besides cancer itself
As a hardcore Transformers fan myself, I want to get as many figures as I can.
Are yall seriously complaining on a three year old comment about an animal profile picture
"The wheels on the train go round and round!" That part was my LOL of the day! Unfortunately, limited funds are keeping me from scooping up any Not-Transformers as of late. So I'm passing on this guy.
Great review, as always!
I wish I could have all the masterpiece transformers.
Scary Skits dont we all
Scary Skits absolutely
You can but there very expencive
ur not alone bro
Just buy the KO's and you will get there a little faster.X)
Hmm... The vehicle modes are perfect, but I feel the robot mode doesn't represent me.
AWSOME ASTROTRAIN wtf who would get a transformer looking like them it's dumb as buying metroplex and it looks exactly like me
XWingGamer no devastator is the oldest combiner superion came after
Halohunter553 facts. Lol
AWSOME ASTROTRAIN I to feel that the robot mode does not represent your outer complex.
Brainfucked kid
It's the big purple choo-choo of death.
I am terrified xD
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big purple choo-choo of death eh?
Kubz Mango my grandaddy warned me about *THE BIG PURPLE CHOO CHOO OF DEATH* but i didn't belive him that night at 2am he was killed by *THE BIG PURPLE CHOO CHOO OF DEATH*
Kubz Mango WHY COULDN'T IT HAVE BEEN ME
Kubz Mango
I don't know why, but I always chuckle when you say "MAGNUS!"
This toy is amazing great look(in all modes) great scale good articulation decent transform great/fun box and the single gun was the correct accessory to me. One of the best 2 toys in my collection
on a scale from 1-10 how would you rate this figure?
10 is best obviously
Pointlessicon 9
Pointlessicon 10
I'd give it a nine.
10 definitely a 10
12
Awww no Blitzwing comparison :(
You're so calm in this, sounds like you're recording at like 1 am right before you go to bed.
copy right it's "jetason some weight or we'll never make it to Cybertron" Astrotrain 1998 : the transformers the movie
1986
"choo choo rocket!"
Loving the new look for Astrotrain...
+emgo316 "He's a big choo choo of purple death" that part killed me😂😂😂😂😂😂😂lmao😂😂😂
wow despite all the parts involved, that was a really neat and tidy review! Awesome job EmGo!
Great review as ever Emgo :) Just love the design effort that goes into these 3rd party Transformers. Especially this one; as you said you'd never tell the shuttle was a train and vice versa!

Awesome review. You're the first one I've seen with an explanation to what to do with the extra piece while in jet mode.
Now that’s how Astrotrains alternate modes should look like Hasbro!
Did you know, that when in train mode, Astrotrain is a 2-8-4 Berkshire steam locomotive. Besides the fact that he looks futuristic.
The greatest thing about Astrotrain and Blitzwing was the hints of their vehicle modes in their names

How does blitz hint at him transforming into a tank

Jeez ultramagnus, star saber dial it down on the protein shakes

Your talking about ticks
The transformation from train to shuttle is crazy....very impressive
16:10 The landing gear does help make the underside look more believable by filling that odd gap
I remember the astrotrain I had when I was a child. I loved having it with me when I watched the transformers cartoons.
Actually, CHIGURH is taken from Hebrew. However the actual spelling is ment to be more in line with "SHIGUR". It literally translates to "Launch" or "Blast Off".
Woah thats cool
It’s been a decade by now and I still watch emgo.
"Call it."
"Okay then. Locomotive."
"Well done."
Never got to understand what you say everytime when doing comparison... "Precious?"
He says "precious *insertname* precious ooooooOOO"
EMGO, THERES GONNA BE A JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS MOVIE!!!! QUICK, TELL SHOCKWAVE!!!!!!!
Might have the biggest locomotive mode, but I don't like the lack of an actual smoke stack.
That Astrotrain is a 1-4-2 class locomotive using the European way of classification of counting the pair of wheels by size from the front... someone more involved in trains than me could list the few real loco that used those!

I got to say WOW! Astrotrain is amazing especially his transformation from a train too a space shuttle I can't tell the difference. He is way better than his G1 version.
Astrotrain: loaded like a freight train, flyin' like an aeroplane!
but is he "lyin' like a space brain one more time tonight?"
I wonder if Fans toys will ever make an accurate Astroteain. This one is by far the biggest and less "breakable" I had transportation captain. The shuttle mode is spot on. I like the robot form as well. Trains a lot like this one.
Great review. I definetly need to add this to my collection astrotrain has always been one of my favorite cons
He actually looks really pretty, intricate and bad ass. I'll definitely spend the money on this one. Very nice review.
I love the extra piece for cleanup on the back! And in robot mode nice.. I bought this because of your review!
This toy is a train, spaceship, and a robot all in one! My mind is blown. How do you masterfully create such a thing?
That is the Original Train form of Astrotrain from the G1 Series. But in the deluxe one is a Japanese Bullet Train.
This is such an underrated figure. Was going to sell mine, but after watching this again I've decided to keep him.
I would have liked to see how the shuttle mode scales with legends size figures, because if I was going to display this guy in Shuttle mode, it would be with legends guys as I feel like that would be closer to an appropriate scale. They could concievably fit inside the shuttle, as they did in the g1 cartoon.
That will have to be my second fav transformer you have showcased. Keep up the good work!! Can't wait for the next one "Tomorrow??" lol
And now I have to get myself a Chigurgh. Thanks Emgo you never cease to make me spend money.
These party counterfeit transformers is freaking expensive.
I don’t care if the flight stand is kind of cheating.... I love it even more for the actual idea that there is a use for that part in every mode.
I know, I'm double posting, but on this one I don't care. I want this toy, lol..
Thank you very much for this review EmGo. This shot up my wants list because of your very detailed review.
My only problem with shuttle mode is that there are four thrusters when the cartoon/movie had three
This guy is an absolute marvelous piece of engineering. We don't see enough figures with engineering like that. I especially love what they did with the arms. Too bad his estimated arrival date from BBTS is march...

i just got this. I love it. no regrets. granted I did have to switch the head connection as it was put together backwards....but still only a slight issue.
Increíble que esos años hicieran "juguetes" tan complejos, ahora son una joya esas masterpiece de G1.
I gave a thumbs-up just for Mascot's line about being both at the being of the video.
i just realized that the robot mode and shuttle mode for Chigurh could be redeco'd/ retooled into Armada Jetfire.... but im not sure how the train mode would be incorporated into the figure
His shuttle mode looks like a mini little shuttle, i like it :D
this guy! is something else! I love the reviews but at the begining and at the end thats hwere he gets me!!!!LOL
That squashed shuttle mode makes it look like Buck Rogers' 1979 TV show version.
such a puzzle! ty for the review it helps alot, imo this has some weak looking plastic where it really matters, i'm talking about that black flat square panel that works as a cross articulation (you can see it clearly at 11:40). Incredible transformation
His gun has a tool that helps you get the thrusters out
Thanks for the Video! I just pre-ordered a new run on the DX9 Chigurh!!
Found my first masterpiece thanks Emgo
By the maker I've missed you Emgo.
This astrotrain is an absolute UNIT lol. Choo choo of death indeed
I wonder if HasTak got inspired by Chigurh's hip transformation when they made Siege Springer.
keep up the great reviews! i am too poor to buy great figures but i appreciate your reviews of 3rd party figures! very satisfying for this fanboy
I love how you just throw the boxes aside lol
The ending video would've been funnier if Astrotrain were to strangle Starscream like he did in the G1 cartoon.
A lot of work, but GOD DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN, well worth it, this a damn good transformation, the ending was hilarious lmfaooooooooooooooooooo
that shuttle mode remiends me of armada jet fire . the hole toy looks grate!
I think he's a tad small for masterpiece. I'd hoped his jet mode would be at least as big as MP10 primes trailer, but I see how the manufacturers didn't want to make him to expensive so they sacrificed to avoid pricing him out of the market.
You know what I want? A Masterpiece Cosmos. If a company makes that, they will have ALL MY MONEY.
Second verse same as the first.
Soundwave: the wheels on the train go round and round round and round round and round
Me: hahaha ha ha ha
Freaking awesome, that's why they call it, MASTERPIECE !!
Wow actually mildly tempting & i never brought a toy since becoming an adult.
Say his name repeatedly and you will hear a train
*chigurh chigurh chigurh chigurh chigurh*
It's funny how DX-9 says "collect them all!" They're acting like these toys aren't over one hundred dollars
I like how emgo dosent have to cuss his head off to make awsome vids
That tool you got with Gewalt would help with those thrusters haha. I guess they realised it was needed. :)
You know, I feel as if Astrotrain is one of, if not the, only triple changers that actually looks at least decent in all 3 modes
Haha xD true he is like there school bus great gag man oh btw will we ever see the return of death bunny ?? XD
Amazing engineering! Great figure! Nice review thanks!
I know that the g1 optimus prime toy has parts forming and I know that shockwave in the tv show had parts forming so I think they're supposed to do that
