  • I walk through the neighborhoods of Nolita and Little Italy with Tom Delgado ‪@tomdnyc1‬ . We start off at Houston Street before making our way through Mott Street, going into the Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, and then head down Mulberry Street. Tom is a former lawyer turned comedian and licensed tour guide.

@@jpadarath27 Of course you could, and he does, it is called preparation. Still you need quite some bit of knowledge readily available in your nugget to get it into a smooth and entertaining form. I wouldn't trust a surgeon stopping a procedure every five minutes to have a look into Gray's Anatomy.

When I was a kid Chinatown was three or four streets and it was surrounded by what they call Little Italy today. Like Tom said alot of these tenements were divided so that some families were without windows. There was no indoor plumbing so people used porcelain pots and then throw the nights remains out the window. There used to be an expression - "You don't have a pot to piss in - or a window to throw it out! One of the reforms was all apartments would have windows. Later apartments had cold water flats. If you were lucky you might have a sink in your apartment but if not you had to stand in line to use the bathroom - again the old porcelain pot routine. As Italian immigrants got more prosperous, they were able to leave the neighborhood and move to Brooklyn, Queens or even the suburbs. The 1950s were the beginning of "white flight" Oh and by the way a lot of Southern Italians left Italy because in the Northern Italy which had the industry, the Napolidans, Sicilians and other were treated like dirt in the north. Martin Scorsese himself grew up in Queens. His mother sometimes played bit parts in some of his movies e.g. Good Fellas.

Octopus plural = *octopuses* even though octopi sounds better!
"Grammatically speaking, the plural for octopus is octopuses. As the Merriam-Webster dictionary points out, people use three different terms, however: octopi, octopuses, and octopodes.
While “octopi” has become popular in modern usage, it’s wrong. The letter “i” as a suffix to indicate a plural noun only applies to words with Latin roots, like “cacti” for more than one cactus. But octopus is derived from Greek, so the proper pluralization in this case would be “odes” if it was ever used. However, this particular word happens to employ a classic English formulation, and affixing a simple “es” at the end of octopus will do, according to grammar experts."

Ken, You might want to mention to Tom that he should remove his hat as a sign of respect when inside a Catholic Church or while inside any religious institution whatever his religious affiliations might be. It probably was an oversight on his part, but IMO you should point it the next time you speak with him.
