Un très grand cerveau littéraire français, oui, je demeure très choyé d'y avoir lu la grande majorité de son immense oeuvre ...pour un petit Québécois de 69 ans, j'aimerais simplement rendre hommage à ce grand maître de la littérature française des belle années du coeur du 19 ième siècle ! ❤💜🧡

C'est possible qu'on l'aie tué avec la fameuse chimeneé. L'affaire Dreyfus avait soulevé bien de poussière.
But anycase, about his works, found Nana the best one. Then Germinal, though being this one a bit more slow paced. Then The Money could be read but wasn't as good as I expected and not so good in comparison to the previous two ones. Then The Human Beast I only read the half of it for it was boring me. Surely it wasn't its moment to read it. Because Zola it's said to be an excessive or exaggerating author, but would say it will never or rarely bore you. It deals about his times and society analysis, and so he goes into many things. Depending on the title you're reading. It's a classes system and a quite closed one, the French society he gets into. So you could also say, he analyses the class society system of the end of 18th century and or, the beginning of past century, as you please. In this sense, Germinal analysis is about the workers class and Nana more about medium and upper clases, while we follow the terrible ascent of Nana through her activities and dealings. Wonder if he ever wrote nothing better. For this one is a page turner that catches you from the mere beginning. It's a quite impressive story, a haunting and powerful book. Has to be said that Zola can be very poetic, as can be seen in La Joie de Vivre, another one I read and liked. A good reading, as a whole, and an unavoidable one, no doubt. With powerful plots, also. Thérèse Raquin is another of his famous ones and also read it, though don't remember much.🙄👍😍😇🆗

Zola is VERY dead, however Balzac and Flaubert are very much alive.
