Hello from Australia ,mate that expansion chamber is ,well its just beautiful ,massive respect to the fella who built it ,as a welder/fabricator ive got to say that is so damm hard to do and ive been in the trade for near 40 years and i could not replicate that ,please let the fella know that ive shown all the boys at work and we are all bowled over ,very talented operator
He’s regarded as the best in the 2 stroke game for his design & fabrication 😎 it’s the reason I was willing to wait regardless of the time scale as no one comes close.. mega added bonus he’s only 15 minutes down the road from me and genuinely nice guy 👍 I’ve sent him the screen shot of your message 👌
Yet again great to have you back mate that blokes got some skills on the exhaust its like a work of art and cant believe how long ago this project was time just keeps going quick older you get
I'm sorry to hear the grom wasn't popular on utube, I'm personally not a fan of them but that doesn't mean I don't admire there tiny size and squeezing all that technology into a diddly bike, I really admire what you have done with getting the engine and exhaust and just getting the fine tuning sorted, it's great you did do the grom to experiment and bring it to a wider audience so it's not as popular but it's still a success on the channel, you have Done a cracking job and I look forward to seeing the finished result.. it sounds like the nuts, and yeah, everyone swears when they get excited, so there no issues. Great job again.
Its sadly one of those things, ive had good success on other projects so just have to take the rough with the smooth sometimes! Thanks for comment, I'll still get this one finished and hopefully interest picks up
@stoneautomotive yeah it's all good. At least you tried, and it wasn't as bad as you think. Stay positive.. ps loved the exhaust,, that's a work of art 🎨 👌.
That's an amazing creation, brilliant work. It needs to get onto the US UA-cam viewer's recommendations, there's a lot of people who love Grom content over there. As I like to tune my motorcycles, I think if you don't utter some expletives after riding it, then it's not a success 😎
Thank you, it does seem the US has a massive following for the Gram's, no idea how increase the exposure to the states! hopefully gets better views as the series continues. haha true regarding the swearing
Yea Griff's told me of his love for Gram's, we talked the build when he was advising me on repair steps for the RSV project I had on the channel - great guy
I follow you for the e92 m3 love your detailed videos on it, unfortunately am not in to bikes but still watched this video and give you a 👍 brilliant work mate
@stoneautomotive don't sell the m3😪 am in the middle of doing the has kit and must of watched you video a 1000times lol them fronts springs are gonna end my life lol.. love the channel..
Mate I'd check the spark coil i have had this same issue on loads of 2 strokes where it wont rev out into the powerband make sure its bolted to the frame tight and has to be bare metal no paint as it need the frame to earth out hope this helps build looks pucka mate 😊 if it still wont run right can be either a coil in stator/genny or just a bad coil which are cheap to replace other than that jetting to accommodate the new pipe would be my next port of call 😊
Thanks mate, it’s on the list of parts to review/ change 👍 It feels very fuel related as different throttle angles seem to be causing the biggest changes when riding (WOT it bogs) but 75% it rides really well so feel it’s main jet now
Hello from eastern USA, New York State. I was just wondering on a friends 94 ktm 300 and he had the same problem I just saw in your video: the power valves aren’t opening and closing all the way, then closing up one side when wide open making it impossible to jet. Re-inspect the power valves on both sides, there are inspection dots that line up at a certain place on each side. Those boost ports must be aligned , opening and closing at the exact same place and time. I used a screw driver to realign the boost port windows when looking up the exhaust. Use a flashlight it helps. The valve is also supposed to open at between 5,500-5,800 rpm (start opening viewing from right side power valve cover). Good luck, I haven’t finished watching yet, just putting my 2 cents in at 4AM -lol. Carbon fiber reeds are what all ktm’s come with now and may be a solid upgrade from the fiberglass ones. Stay awesome!
Maybe I shall have to start renting it out 😅 Agree, loosing his factory ride at Ducati after the dedicated work and results on the 2023 bike this year! I’m a MM93 fan but wasn’t fair what went on with the rider decision.
Notwithstanding the power valve issue, losing the airbox for a foam filter and the exhaust change will need carb modifications. Also, premix in town traffic is a pain and doesn't help, lovely build though, that exhaust is an art piece👍
Completely agree, there’s certainly a few variables to work through! Was never going to be running first time perfectly 😅 Thanks mate, even if I never fix it she looks great haha
100% agree - I need to check the jetting (played around last year) and I do have a compromised intake/air filter set up so will never be the same power output as factory (not that this little chassis ever needed that much go)
Mate that's fantastic, great work. Only just cone across this channel but great build. I could appreciate it more owning a standard grom and I've always thought in standard trim it's a fraction too slow to be safe on dual carriageways because is struggles to do a big enough top speed to keep up with the flow of traffic.
Thank you 😎👍 Agree, reviewed it on the stock engine and was great round town but wasn’t the most satisfying sat flat out 😅 certainly has enough grunt now haha
Thanks mate 😎👍 Lucky for you I’ve documented all my success and struggles on the channel under the HOONIGROM play list 👍😅 it’s certainly been a project I’ve loved and really enjoy the reactions when I’m out! It’s actually really good fun to ride but in desperate need of tyres & suspension upgrades!
Just found your thread with the grom, really like it 👍👍👍. I have got some ideas in that direction, a two stroke with some more power. But on the Honda monkey.
@stoneautomotive I have wanted to make something from scratch and perhaps making a monkey frame and using an old Yamaha AS2 engine. They sound you got from your from your From ❤️
Thanks mate, it’s certainly great fun 😅👍 Thanks for the tip, the biggest challenge for tyres aside from the size/decent compound is also the speed rating! Pirelli now offer the Rosso Corsa scooter tyres so hoping that will be a big upgrade with suspension in the next videos
I can't really understand the popularity issue, ok the bike itself might appear a bit 'not for grown ups' but one look at that exhaust tells a different story. If you know, you know? Personally I think it's a great bike, you can't beat an on-song 2 stroke. Think of it as good training for when the RS125 engine goes in! 👍
Doesn't sound a million miles away, just a tad rich by the sounds of it, slightly smaller main jet maybe and/or a needle adjustment and she should crisp up I reckon
I had a 300exc on the road, it was an animal, What ratio are you mixing the fuel at, these engines tend to be less than other two strokes' premix ratios.
@stoneautomotive yeah, I'm sure I run 90ml over 5 ltrs, never had any issues, it was crisp, like you I always run a quality oil, mine was always Rock, Check the needle setting, perhaps someone has moved the clip down thinking it give more fuel for more power, it's only ever adjusted to account for altitude changes.
Drop the needle 1 clip it's rich keihins like mikuni don't have an atomiser. Like a dellorto the carb body wears out making the hole bigger drop the needle
Good tip, I plan to drop a main jet size and one needle clip as my intake is compromised due to the frame back so will never be as well designed as stock - just happy its actually working now
@stoneautomotive I have built tuned raced 2 strokes with lots success The longer intake gives more torque it shouldn't effect the jetting massively be careful with the main jet I would try the needle as to me it sounds rich mid top top end also the factory setting for the mixture screw is 1 turn out from fully in pull the needle out run your thumb and finger down the needle you will feel the wear I would drop the needle personally yes replacing the needle sounds good but then your back to square one as the needle and main jet will be far off from were it is now if you roll the throttle and it 4 strokes it's deffo the needle I run a keihin 38 air striker on my cr250 kart engined nsr250
@ thanks for taking the time to reply, valid point (one thing at a time) Will try the needle first 👍 annoying as we’re due snow this week so really could be a few months before I can properly start testing. I have a good straight road with a car park at the end so will take some tools and complete some back to back test when the weather picks up 👍
It's still not at full power, the fueling is still rich but finally it hits a power band! the intake elbow/lack of airbag doesn't help so will need to be leaned out plus I can't even recall what main jet is in it after messing around with it last year trying to fix the initial issue
It’s all above board, granted Bemoto had to make a few referrals to the underwriters and an engineer had to review the build, especially when I told them I built it at home 😅 I legally purchased the KTM EXC300 with V5c etc and the engine all matched the frame from a road registered bike.. granted it holding U-lez title is potentially questionable for the emissions 😅 Hope you still enjoyed the video 👍
awesome build, 2 strokes rule!!!!
Thank you
I had a TZR 125 back in the late 80s and this engine would be absolutely fuckin mental in it
Wicked conversion mate
Thanks mate 😎👍

Thanks 😎👍
Good to see it again and given me a nudge to finish the re build on my yz250 grom engine
Glad to hear 😎
Imagine a 250 is still fantastic fun
Yet again great to have you back mate that blokes got some skills on the exhaust its like a work of art and cant believe how long ago this project was time just keeps going quick older you get
Mark Dent is the 2 stroke master, incredible design and fabrication skills 😎
Tell me about it mate, time is just flying by year by year 😭
Absolute madness. I love it.
Thanks mate 😎
Love a grom and this seems like a great engine swap. 👍👍
It does bizarrely really suit it

That sounds awesome.great build mate, well done.
Thank you
that is nuts. sounds amazing and that pipe is a work of art. great job James. 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Ian! You shall have to come over and check it out in the flesh 👌
Would love to
@@iandunipace you’ve got my number so just drop me a text mate, I’ll put the kettle on 👌
It´s an auditory illusion seeing that Grom sound so aggressive. Awesome!
It does get some looks on the road especially as it can perform over takes at national speed limit 😅👍

I follow you for the e92 m3 love your detailed videos on it, unfortunately am not in to bikes but still watched this video and give you a 👍 brilliant work mate
Thanks for the channel support, much appreciated! Hopefully more car content will return for 2025

When it comes to 2 strokes mark dent is the man. Love it mate.
He certainly know's his stuff and fantastic workmanship
Great video
I love the noise and the smell of the two strokes
Bet your neighbours do too!
All the best
Thank you, sadly the neighbours are not sold on 2 strokes lol
Amazing little bike
What an awesome Build! Ive got the 2015 Grom💪
Thank you, great fun bikes even stock!
They are! Mines stage one. Nothing like yours though!

Super cool! Sound super rich on the main jet from my tv 👍🏼 check factory jet sizes and maybe take a size or 2 out of it
Id love a go on that. Martin won luckily he deserves it. Need to see the knees down though
Maybe I shall have to start renting it out 😅

Thanks mate, fingers crossed it gets some momentum on the channel 👌 thanks for the sub 👌

Just found your thread with the grom, really like it 👍👍👍.

The Honda monkey is even smaller from what I've seen, I really struggled with space on the Grom lol.. Good luck though!
@stoneautomotive I have wanted to make something from scratch and perhaps making a monkey frame and using an old Yamaha AS2 engine. They sound you got from your from your From ❤️
Nice build, looks fun! Not sure if you can get your size but look for PMT Blackfire R compound tyres, very soft, theres a harder compound too the S
Thanks mate, it’s certainly great fun 😅👍

Think of it as good training for when the RS125 engine goes in! 👍
It's just a novelty
People tend to switch of these days
Thanks, yea baffled me with it doing so poorly! love projects like this.
RS125 should look fantastic when its finished (hopefully)
I can hear it, wanna smell it/ feel it....
Doesn't sound a million miles away, just a tad rich by the sounds of it, slightly smaller main jet maybe and/or a needle adjustment and she should crisp up I reckon
100% - shame the weathers turning for the worse to prevent any real testing for the next couple of months
Grinding steel next to a shiney ducati 😂
Try, 35 pilot, 168 main, needle 2nd clip from top, also check jet block o ring
Jets are the next thing to check 👍 can’t even recall what was in there last.
your neighbors must love you lol
I’m sure I’m not wining neighbour of the year award 😅 it is bloody loud, something the video doest really relay 😬
nice video mate love em
Thanks mate 😎👍
I been yelling that this bike should come with hondas 250 2 stroke
I’m sure if Honda noticed the KTM lump they would be sick 😅
would love to see anotheer video of it running better rejetted a bit leaner
Jet change is the next planned video, it will return to the channel 👍
Thankfully this video seems to be going down well 👌
Love it
Thanks mate 😎👌

👍👏👏🏍️ wicked 🏍️👏👏👍
Thanks! 😀
It needs a air box on it or a rejet
Agree 👍 just needs a little fuel adjustment to its new home
@ awesome build and it looks ton of fun to ride, hopefully we will get a video soon with it running perfectly👌👍
Should have used the thumbnail from the last video XD
Haha if it gets the views I'm all for it.. although Onlygroms has plenty of that (yes its a real page lol)
Hard to tell just by looking at a video, but it looks massively down on power

Thanks mate 😎👍
"Road-legal"? A matter of perspective, maybe, but if you can actually achieve that in the eyes of UK law, it will be surprising.
It’s all above board, granted Bemoto had to make a few referrals to the underwriters and an engineer had to review the build, especially when I told them I built it at home 😅 I legally purchased the KTM EXC300 with V5c etc and the engine all matched the frame from a road registered bike.. granted it holding U-lez title is potentially questionable for the emissions 😅

Just pin them valves open !!!
Power valve is now working, just need to sort the fueling 😅 stay tuned, more to come 😬
What a waste
Do not see the point so im out......
Thats fair enough! It's certainly a unique riding experience that not many people can say they have experienced lol
Wasted on the grom, put it in the rs125 🤪
Better still, a mito
Spence (who's RS125 I reviewed) has suggested the same lol.. remember the RS125 chain is located on the wrong side so very expensive modification lol
