    P.S. I have a shoebox-sized plastic container that I put all the strange little things I find into. I call it the "What the heck?" box. Then when I find something that is missing a small part, I know where to look first! It has been AMAZINGLY helpful!

    Oh, I love the idea of slipping a piece of file folder into the zip baggies so they can be filed upright, versus just a jumbled bag of goodies on their own.
    Brilliant!💡

    I love the way you have just a minimal amount of music a little audio jingle and then just your voice not this running soundtrack of music underneath when you're talking and crafting with us. It's perfect. Please don't change it The number of UA-camrs who put an audio track under their content drives me insane. 😊💙

    Great tips. I enjoy your videos. Thanks!
    I like that with all my hobbies I'm staying mostly organized. Frequently I also alphabetize because that's how my brain thinks. My husband is also an artist/crafter and he sometimes goes 'shopping' in my 'mostly' organized studio/warehouse. (I had to bring a gazillion supplies to my home studio when my remote studio was closed due to the building I rented in being sold).
    I LOVE that whenever hubby asks 'do you have' x-y-z' I can say 'Yes, it's in the craft studio in this location, to the left/right of the table, etc'. Or 'it's in the jewelry studio near the right/left window'. I don't have to interrupt what I'm working on to get something for him. Also, I label everything, which I think is key when folks share supplies.
    The best part about sharing my supplies is that when I need something from his workshop or something made, he's willing to get it for me or make it for me. WE don't have to run out and buy something - which saves time and money. But I DO want to learn how to use his POWER TOOLS! :-).
    P.S. He's finally become a believer - like me - that duct tape has a thousand uses. We always say 'try some duct tape on it'!

    I also like the file folder in a zip lock bag so you can file it and it stands upright and doesn’t drop to the bottom of the box in jumbled mess!

    Just found your site. Great ideas. I'll soon be moving into a new home and plan to put some of your ideas into practice. ~ Just a little tip: when using Zip Bags for storage, if you trim a diagonal 1/4 inch off the bottom corners, you don't have to worry about the "puffy air bags". I don't use this for small/tiny items, but it works great with larger items that won't fall through..

    Hey Norrine.....such a great tutorial on keeping our craft room/space well organized! It was you, my dear, who inspired me to get started on my own organization, so thank you for that. I'd say I've got about half of it done but please keep in mind that my space was so full, I could barely find a path into my room. I am also physically challenged which definitely puts a lot of limitations on how much I can do at a time. Your space is so awesome and I love the color of your organizational bins....by the way, it looks like the latest and greatest TIM HOLZ's new color, which is called Speckled Egg. I took a photo of my room a year ago before I got started, and when I'm done, I'm taking another one. I will email you the before and after photos, once completed. Thank you so much for the 'push' and for the fantastic storage/organizational ideas. Take care, and stay safe & healthy! Gentle hugs, from Canada

    I have a lot of odds and ends of crafter supplies, quilting and sewing supplies, clay, paint, and templates. Also tons of fabric, batting, thread, art supplies and adult coloring books. This was so helpful. I have different sizes and types of storage boxes, etc. but they are all different colors and sizes, made from plastic, cardboard, etc. If I color them all the same or coordinating colors and put the same type of labels on them I can turn all my book shelves into my craft storage. Once I do that maybe I'll get around to doing something with all my crafting supplies and fabric in time for Christmas. Thanks so much for this organizing video. But, crafts are a thing of muse and inspiration and even though you haven’t done something for a while, it does not mean that you are not going to. Besides, a lot of times, I find, among my collections, solutions to unrelated issues. So, thank you for saying that you keep everything! You make me feel I am not alone!

I also store my embellishments this way: ribbon, brads, washi tape, etc. I store other less used items by material. All metal craft objects, wooden items, yarn, glass, etc. each have their own bins. I can easily find things that way. I’m constantly changing up my organizational ideas so I love watching others to get ideas!

      so sorry that was so traumatic I'm assuming "that book" is the Marie Kondo one, I have friends that felt that way too, though for one is was mainly about clothes and shoes and I agree, crafting is very personal, we buy the things that call to us in the moment, and may well forget what we had planned for them, that's why I got in the habit of making a quick card sketch and keeping it with the stamps or dies or saving the video that introduced me to them

    Great video!! I have a large metal desk that was being thrown away at my hubby's work so he brought it home and I cleaned it up and I had old wall border wallpaper and I decorated it and it covered up any scratches, and I use it all the time,The desk drawers are deep and long so I use one side for all my thin ribbons and I can categorize all my colors and the other drawer I have my scrapbooking stuff for the book I am working on for my son it has so much space I can keep all the pictures and keepsakes in one place. That desk was a God sent. My hubby found me an old(very old) handmade cabinet that someone was giving away and I use it for my bigger ribbons and wreath forms . I use those tubes that ,those small mesh ribbons come on for scraps of small ribbon just tape them on,or use them to store my long straight floral wires and can category them by size ,just glue them to a board standing up and place all the different gage wire in each one,those tubes are usually pretty sturdy. Or I cover Pringles canisters with pretty paper and use those for floral wires to. Sorry I wrote a book! LOL! Hugs from Lancaster, Pa.😘

    As for my Cricut vinyl scraps, I bought a 12x12 photo album from Savers for $2 and slide my scraps inside the see-thru pocket sleeves (where you typically would put your photos). I have it color coded on each page. I store the book on a shelf and pull it out first before I use a fresh new big piece of vinyl.

I love how your containers match, not only by kind and color coordination, but with the handles and labels matching and evenly attached. Everything is so pretty. I could work there all day. I wish I had seen this video years ago! I have so much that is spread around my home that I can't find any thing. I have 2 spools of fishing line (purchased the 2nd one when I couldn't find the 1st one) and I have no idea were either one is. I have done multiple crafts and have so much stuff. I've worked in an independent fabric/yarn store and I purchased a ton of stuff. I really need to go through everything and organize it.
    I love your videos.

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer
      @TheCraftyOrganizer  4 роки тому +4

      Take it slow... my best advice is start with one type of thing...... then search for all of it! If it's yarn... gather every bit of yarn you can find. Sort and purge that and then go on to the next item type. You can't know where to store things or the container sizes until you really know what you have. It may seem overwhelming - but this will all click into place and leave you more organized then you could have ever imagined. 💛

    Long post, I hope you don't mind. I love that you organize instead of getting rid of everything! A few years ago, I moved and was guilted into getting rid of the majority of my crafting supplies and all of my fabric because I wasn't actively crafting at that time. It was supposed to be a freeing experience and bring me joy but instead it left me devastated. Now that I have returned to crafting, I can't buy or even find most of the things I gave away. Most of today's fabrics are poor quality and everything else is cheaply made in China. Yard sales and second hand stores are great, but I never seem to find the treasures that others do. When I sit down to craft these days, I am fighting back tears most of the time because I want my things back. So, crafting has become more sad than fun. I get overwhelmed and give up because I don't have what I need for my projects. I know that I sound like a sad sack and probably a hoarder (lol). But truthfully, I used to be organized even tho I had a lot of stuff. I guess my point is...not everyone is happy when they get rid of stuff. Thank you so much for showing these great organizing tips instead of just getting rid of everything!!! I think organizing is key. I sooo wish that I had found you before I ever read that "book" and gave my hobby away!!!

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer
      @TheCraftyOrganizer  4 роки тому +7

      I'm so sorry that was your experience. Even when I am working with clients - I don't push them to get rid of things. If they want to downsize, I help them find new homes where things will be loved. The only time I push to purge is when someone hires me to help them fit everything into an area - and they simply have too much. I will Tetris every square inch though, to help them keep their items. I hope you are able to find joy in crafting again soon. 💙

      "not everyone is happy when they get rid of stuff" Thank you for saying that. Some people just don't seem to want to understand that we are all not the same and the same things don't necessarily make us happy. As I've told a few people in my life 'I like my stuff and I don't want to get rid of it because you don't think I need it'.

    • @lynvoyager5976
      @lynvoyager5976 4 роки тому +6

      Yep understand completely. We moved recently and the same thing happened to me. Now I keep seeing projects being done and think to myself, I used to have that or those things but got rid of them. So sad and even now the room I want as my craft room has to also have a bed, just in case, and the spare fridge. As you can imagine it limits what space is available. Hubby has even asked why I'm not crafting and all I can say is no space, no inspiration. I got up the courage to ask for a she shed and was shot down so now I'm trying to get him to agree to buying a sofa bed for the living area so we have a 'Just in case' bed. Wish me luck.

      You could follow Freecycle and other posts on the internet where people are getting rid of things. I got a lot of things I never thought of using in my crafting when I did that and it was fun and I passed what I could not use to others. I also go to Goodwill and other secondhand stores and found things and I also found a store called "Tuesday Morning" that is a second or third sale store and they have wonderful craft things that cost a lot less than what is in the big stores. It is all new but it is like a third market.

      Linda's Sonnenberg, I can relate to what you said. I tend to be somewhat of a hoarder myself, but mainly I keep switching to different crafts instead of just sticking with one. But that is where I get a lot of joy. And it is a challenge when you have so many things to keep them organized. And you're right, if something gives you Joy never give it away or get rid of it. My son recently moved in with me until he goes to school, and I considered getting rid of some of my stuff to make room for his. But I have a lot of scrap pieces of wood and woodworking equipment, and I decided I can't let it go! And that's okay. I love all my crafts and sometimes it gets out of hand, so this video and your comment were very helpful. Best wishes and craft on!

    Oh Norinne! If only I could use your system. But I have SOOOOOOO much stuff in so many areas I had to go to the plastic drawer containers. I have sewing, knitting, embroidery, rubber stamping, scrap booking, painting, OH MY! I am probably bordering on "hoarding", but I know if I get rid of anything, I will want it again. LOL. I am organized though. Just have a LOT of stuff. Right now, probably way too much fabric. I did cut a bunch of them in half and just keep half of it instead of the full piece. LOL. Crafters! Pretty ideas, I plan to use some of these after we move. I have a couple containers that were intended to hold fishing supplies so they have little removable parts. These are great for beading projects, small things like glues or the small things I make and use in junk journaling. They stack well like the baking pans. I put paper packs or scraps into the 2 & 1/2 gal zip bags, then clip them to plastic skirt or pants hangers. They fit nicely into a spare room closet or hung from a tension rod. TFS ❣️🌻💚🦋💜🐞

    I love your strategy for storing paper scraps. I have so much scrap paper I couldn't figure out what to do with it--now I have a plan! One of the most useful things I found for my craft supplies is a label maker. I have tried several styles but I find the Brother the best for me. it is like a mini typewriter--It is easy to use and although a bit pricey, I have found the investment was worth while. I ues it constantly.

    I purchase the materials in good faith to make things & there it sits because i don't even have room on my table to see the table. And then i forget i have stuff because i can't find it & go out to purchase more of the same! Your ideas are awesome. Thank you for sharing your ideas.

      Start big. Just get all of the paper stock you can find into ONE PLACE. I mean, look for it in bags, drawers, closets, pull it all out and get it together. Then you can start organizing it by size, color, etc.... AND you can purge knowing what all you have. Then you will know how much space you need to store whats left. Then... move on to the beads and do the same thing. Use small baggies to hold the colors/sizes. They are super inexpensive and you can keep the bags in a larger box. Please let me know if you get stuck. I'm here to help. :)
