Thanks Aaron, people who've never had and used a sog don't really know. I have used dog knives and never had a failure. Ordered one once it came defective, their customer service didn't want me to send it back. Sent a replacement no questions asked. Excellent
What I did notice was it was a little gritty in the opening mechanism when I first got this for my son but after washing it's and getting any filings out of the hinge and a little drop of gun oil it functions very slick now
I just got this at sportsman's warehouse for 19.75 and I love it I have been carrying this over my recon 1 I love the satin blade i have been so used to carrying black blades that i have forgot how nice they were to look at.
I bought this knife a little while ago, and use it almost everyday as my EDC knife. I love and it has been totally awesome ever since I took it out of the package. Loved your review, really summed up a lot of good points! The one thing that has happened to me that is kind of annoying is that the thumb studs actually unscrew after using it a few times, and I have to screw them back together so that they don’t fall out. Maybe I just got a defective model or something but it is something to watch out for.
Thank you for a straight forward logical breakdown of the knife. There are many reviewers that interject their personal preferences into the review that it ruins the review and makes it almost useless. Keep up the good work sir, you have a new subscriber.
I got one of these from the lost and found at work. Put a new edge on it and it's been a great knife at my warehouse job. Mostly use it to cut boxes, bands and shrink wrap. Feels made for the job. Knives like this do scare me though but the action on it is super handy.
Still wish they would have improved upon the Aegis instead. That knife's lines are classic, albeit with some design issues. Still hoping for the Aegis 2.0.
I got a sog trident back in 2012 which has been my everyday carry for almost 10 years now the sog flare it's almost the exact same knife they are very similar in functionality and design but for a fraction of the price the build quality seems about the same the functionality seems about the same it should last a person plenty long enough for them to get their money's worth out of it and I like the fact it doesn't have serrated blade edge so i pick one up for my son for his birthday he's 12 now and 12-year-olds need a pocket knife
My only problem with SOG are the safety locks. They always seem to engage at the wrong time or if I’m in a hurry. I always find myself supergluing them open.
I have the Boot Camp mini, also 8cr13mov. it's not bad but the blade was not well sharpened, it had a rough, toothy edge. Hopefully the Flash has an improved edge. Of course it's not going to beat my much beloved mini Trident clip point!
I’d like SOG better if all there blades weren’t way over stamped with that ugly SOG everywhere it’s like carrying there commercials on your knife and paying for it just my opinion on SOG don’t own any maybe there great just like a knife with much less branding all over it I’m sure there are some better than others when it comes to this issue but has turned me off to the company as a whole kinda picky some would say but when it comes to my money I wanna like the look along with the grip and performance etc.
I fixed some of the issues with mine... -I hate that cutout logo pocket clip, so I applied some grip tape and black fingernail polish. It hides the logo, blackens the clip, and makes deployment easier. -The safety deploys on its own sometimes. So I super glued it in the OFF position and sanded it down. -That lanyard hole is tiny, but gutted 550 cord goes through easily enough. Again, it helps with deployment. -Out of the box, the blade was dull. Easy fix. Not bad for a $20 knife (at Home Depot) but if I'm paying more then I'm buying a RAT 1.
I don't know this is my first sog knife and I would have to say I'm pretty disappointed. I would expect a knife of this quality to sell for 5 to $10 it's crazy what a name will bring you
Great review as always! I have gone back and forth on whether to get the Trident multiple times, but not digging the seat belt cutter. This one looks very cool and is now at the top of my wish list from SOG in the budget range. Think they might come out with a version that has a blacked out pocket clip?
My only problem is that SOG puts their logo on everything. The pocket clip has SOG cut out of it, the blade is stamped with SOG, and the handle scales have SOG on them. The sad thing is that this knife is one of the least offensive in terms of having SOG everywhere.
the only gripes i have with it are the pocket clip and safety. it's a bastard to try to clip onto anything thicker than printer paper and that close lock is unnecessary and is way too easy to accidentally engage. plus the self promotion on it is a bit much. other than that i have to use it more before i say anything about reliability.
Great Reveiw! In my opinion SOG is very close to Gerber. I don't like either one of their companies. I've bought numerous SOG knives and each time they have play that can't be adjusted and their assist maechanism is absurdly stiff. I also wish companies would realize that 8CR13 is a thing of the past. There are companies makeing knows using 14C28N in a similar, if not equal price range.
I'm not a big fan of thumbstud assisted opening knives. I always feel like the spring sends the blade out ahead of my thumb but my thumb is moving that direction so it wouldn't take much to slip and cut myself. Maybe I'm overly cautious I just don't like how it feels.
It's good to find a SOG fan here on the tube.

I received two of these in today's mail. One for me and one for my son. I got the last two BladeHQ had in stock. I like it am enjoying this blade.
May have to snag one of these... thanks for the information !

Picked one up at a local field and stream I haven't even carried it and I already love it!

I agree a good buy has a long life work edge.
Do want to get one of these, great review on it.

Only complaint is the pocket clip is to tight. Hard to deploy from pocket to hand.
$30 bones for that size knife is a good value. Great review man. You clearly have a fondness for those clip points. Lol good stuff
Just purchased. No complaints. Cool review. Thanks
Just got one of these at a swap meet for $10 in the wrap , nice unit , had to work on the edge a bit but no problem .
Dig the knife!! Also really like the blue Columbia jacket...what style is it?
mxpackard I picked it up at their outlet store. It’s called green lake series. I looked online and couldn’t seem to find it.
how good is this as compare coldsteel sr1 lite
A find deign for SoG?good looking knive.EDC i like it.i got a few sogs to.
Tnx mate ,nice review!
Thanks for the review! How do you use a ceramic rod? I have one but I think I'm just not doing something right, any help or advice, thanks.
Very carefully.
have you ever tested the SOG salute
Any thoughts on cost and blade function compared to coldsteel sport lite? Thanks
Very good review my friend I bought one like it rules thankyou

I would take SOG Flash-FL over this knife.
Great job as usual
Hey,
I want to buy New Edc and i wonder Ontario Rat 2 D2 or SOG terminus xr or this flare. What You recommend?
Steel Will Cutjack Mini
$30 for 8cr is crap. Tons of better deals Ruike offers 14c28n for starters.
I hate hollow ground blades......that said...the rest of the knife looks good...don't even mind the blade steel...

A cheaper and better option is the cold steel pocket bushman that if you go to knife center.com is only 26 bucks

I doubt it on the black pocket clip
Yeah, that's what I kind of figured. Still, definitely on my list to consider.
No thanks, but great vid as always!

I don't disagree about the steel, though for $30 or less I will pay for 8cr13mov or AUS-8.
😍😍👌

''Liked'' before even watching video .
Bought a SOG Twitch II, and that's all it does...twitch but never kick all the way open. Kershaw and Buck make better budget knives.
SOG is over rated
But does it use a spring that can break easy?
I have several sog knives and never broke one.
Thanks
