- This is not a dragonfly. It's a different insect, with smaller eyes, that rests with its wings open. It's called a damselfly. This video explains the differences between a dragonfly and a damselfly.

i think it’s cute we have a dragonfly and a damselfly, it’d make a great children’s story book about rescuing a damsel from a dragon

Right!!😮😮😊
i suffer from severe C/PTSD due trauma i endured as a child. i used to love dragonflies, but the person who harmed me also loved them, and had things with them on it everywhere, so i eventually learned to "hate" them, because i associated them with her.
i don't know why, but this video made me feel the same way i did before... everything. i remembered the first time i ever had a dragonfly land on me. i haven't remembered much of the good parts from that time in a good, long while. i haven't felt the same wonder i once held for the world for even longer.
thank you for giving me hope that things can always get better, and that humans always have the ability to learn, grow, and change for the better.
i really like this video! thank you for making it!
I hope you are doing well now. 🫂
I don't know what you have been through previously. But i wanted to say, I'm sorry that you have to experience that. I hope you'll become stronger and happier in life. ❤️
Hope you’re doing better now. I’m so sorry you had to go through that ❤️
It's unfair that you had to endure whatever that asshole put you through. Imagine giving someone PTSD, pathetic piece of trash, no sympathy for those people. Glad you understand that it isn't the dragonflies fault. Hope things are better, and stay that way.
Well, that sucks.
The first part, I mean.

So real!
Yeah except that insects are creepy. Even as a kid this would be creepy. That SpongeBob butterfly episode was the scariest episode.
@user-nj6bt5gy4s For me, that episode made me burst out in laughter when they zoomed in because in my little kid brain humor was loud = funny.

So many shorts creators barely know anything about what they're talking about and just read off the wikipedia page, so I love the occasional one that's really passionate.
@@absolutezerochill2700 Honestly, I'd say it's even worst than that. Most short creators that pop up are very clearly AI generated bullshit made for quick content. Especially the ones about videogame fact's and "what ifs". I remember watching a Fallout 4 "what if you did this instead" video that literally just went on and on running in circles around the subject for 2 minutes.
I like this guy. He talks to us like we're children on his classroom.

As a former kid who loved catching damselflies and labeling them as "dragonflies" because the dragonflies are harder to catch, this brings back so much memories..
Whe I was a kid I thought that the Damselfly was the baby version of the Dragon fly. 😅
Thats great! Hypothesis are the base of any scientific discovery
Now you learned and corrected your mistakes wich is also great

These videos remind me so much of Mr. Rogers and other shows I watched as a kid, the same shows that drove me to become a Biologist.
I hope these videos will continue to educate today's youth for years to come. Thank you.
This just gave me a huge nostalgia hit. This is the only thing I actually knew, because when I was really young in my old garden we had HUGE amounts of beautiful damsel flies in the garden (mostly in a specific area as well) and you could watch the local dragonflies which were so much bigger and so majestic hunt the damselflies. Thank you for posting this video :)

I always thought it's a baby dragonfly
I absolutely love the new addition of piano and calming, euphoric instrumentals.
Really makes you want to learn and adds to the amazement.
Fun fact, in Spanish the damselfly is called "hell's horse" literally translated
Funny, that reminds me that spider wasps in Brazil are also called cavalo-do-cão (literally, dog's horse, but cão is also used to refer to the devil (cachorro is usually preferred over cão when referring to dogs), so a more correct translation would be "devil's horse" haha)
This reminds me of those baby shows you would put on for your child to fall asleep to because of its calming melody and tone
Bro something about this format is EXTREMELY nostalgic and makes me feel like a kid . You're doing something and it's magical

I've always called that a needle dragonfly since it's slimmer unlike the big dragonflies. 🤣
Immediately went “Oh hey a damselfly!” I knew that obscure knowledge would be useful* one day
*definitions of useful being twisted a bit
I love his voice it’s so soothing 😅 Im actually invested in the animals he discusses❤
Theres something so gentle about this that makes me commit the information to my memory. Like a kindergarten teacher gently telling me how to spell penguin or something.
I feel like this is something that plays between shows on adult swim at 4am
I love damselflies. They remind me of the time I was swimming in a canal, a warm summer’s day, damselflies fluttering to and fro above my head while little fish swam alongside me. It was like something out of a fairytale…
…that was until I ended up in some deeper and choppier water, and couldn’t pull myself out and was too exhausted to swim back. Thankfully an old man was walking by and helped me out of the canal, I was panicking and starting to take on water so I’m glad he showed up when he did! Still have a scar on my foot from where my feet got cut up on rocks trying to climb out lol
Okay, but the music, voice, visuals, and everything just gave me a gentle boost of serotonin.
This content pulls me away from all my life problems. And i know it sounds really dumb, but right now it is one of the most comforting things ever, and It nearly instantly cancels out anxiety attacks and even traumatic episodes that I experience in my day to day life.
I already knew that damselflies and dragonflies are two separate insects but it was nice for someone to properly explain the differences.
Yeah, there are types of Odonata that look almost identical to the dragon fly, family of zigópteros (Zygoptera) (since I speak Spanish, I had to find the English name of the family), they are also* called devil horses, and other differences on the wings are the patterns, they have a tainted area in the wings, aside from most thing that you have mentioned 🥺💕
I learned about this when I was originally looking for bee information, but I have found an entire digital book about insects in my place where I live, aaaaaaaand my curiosity peek about them
Your explanation is very calming
Animal crossing is the whole reason I recognized a damselfly right away
In the Philippines we called it Tutubing Karayom. While the dragonfly is Tutubi
And if it's a bigger one (like waaaaaaay bigger than regular sized one), we call them "Tutubing Kalabaw" (Carabao Dragonfly).
The sound effects and the soft-spoken voice remind me so much of an old kids' show on PBS, very awesome
When I was little I used to think damselfly as newborns of dragonflies. 😂
In France we Call it a « demoiselle » which means « Young lady » and dragonfly are called « libellule » demoiselle are pretty common here and they are pretty easy to deferenciate with dragonfly
in spanish we call "libellules" libélulas !! almost the same, how curious :]
I learned this when trying to paint one for my mom. I was like "mom do YOU know the DIFFERENCE between these??? Which one is the one you like???"
I ended up taking artistic liberties and blending the parts I liked more 😅
I've been watching his videos for a while now, his voice is so gentle and calming 😭
