    Thank you for doing this honest review. I was considering buying one of these but unfortunately getting ass soaked is not my idea of enjoying spending time on the water in this kayak.

    I have one very similar to this one, I got a 1 inch thick, closed cell foam pad to sit on, big difference. I use yellow foam practice golf balls for scupper drain plugs, works great, very dry boat.

    Me and my friend just bought that exact kayak the lady we got it from had those back plugs cocked up and the front plugs open. We took them out on the Huron River and they did pretty good every now and then the wind would blow us around but we got the hang of it and our middle compartment right between the legs didn't get any water in I have no idea why yours did and we didn't have no water around their butt. I would definitely get those plugs you were talking about and seal up the holes where you sitand to be on the safe side get some plugs for the front but have them removable in case water gets in it can drain out easier.

    Iv’e read so many reviews on the instability, bad tracking and that it does not stay straight when you stop paddling But i’m watching this and seeing that it appears to be operator problems or the quality of the molds are not consistent when being built. Quite often when a test model is sent to someone to demonstrate, they put more effort in the quality and focus on that specific one and test it. This is in any product ever made. That particular one HAS TO BE PERFECT. The one you are using looks like it performs very well. Great video.

    • @jimj986
      @jimj986 2 роки тому +2

      I paddle one of these in the gulf of Mexico, stability has been just fine. As for staying straight when stopped, kinda sound like a pipe dream, if you aren't directing the kayak, the wind and current will.

    I had done alot of research and today I pulled the trigger, brought home 2 of these kayaks. The local TSC was running a sell, $100 off so I got them for $200 a piece, feeling pretty good about it. Gonna take one out on my buddys pond tomorrow. The foam golf balls are a great idea to plug the holes, I hadn't thought of that. So they came with a title waiting to be filled out, I was curious about the drain plugs on the top in the very front and the very back, do those holes double for navigation lights? I think they would fit but idk. I bought one for me, for sure, and the other for any friend I can drag along. Planning on customizing mine, have seen alot of cool mods on UA-cam

    Great video! I've been looking at getting a smaller sit on top kayak than my ascend 12 footer which is a great fishing kayak, very stable for a 6'2 person like myself, but loading it on top of my jeep isn't all that fun. But this kayak you reviewed and tried out, I'm thinking it might be what I've been looking for. Thanks again!

  • @rodneyhamilton2562

    The marine sealant is a good idea. However, you will need to do the same for everything screwed onto the hull such as the rod holders, shock cord cleats, drain plugs, etc. This will go far to keep the water out of the hull. I also got tired of sitting on the scupper holes, so I got a stadium seat and mounted it such that my bum is now about 3 inches above the scupper holes allowing the water to flow in and out as needed. Enjoy. If you want to use scupper plugs, the best are those from Sun Dolphin.

      Rodney Hamilton ..Thanks for the info Rodney. I'm currently working on adding a seat to mine. I found a solution to the scupper holes. I used some foam golf practice balls to plug the holes and is working great.

      I mounted a stadium seat to a small plastic foot stool that a cut down to about 3 inches in height. I then counted the stool to the kayak. Here are some pics in my google account:

      It is awesome! Took it on a lake first, cause I am 6'2". Great day, then the Middle Oconee RIver, which was awesome, then on the Broad river with some decent rapids, 4-5' drops. Hell of a lot of fun! Could not be more pleased!

    • @tonypogue
      @tonypogue  7 років тому

      That's great ! ! I did add a cheap seat with a high back that I bought at academy sports. It was $7 and has a high back. It actually fits perfectly and I didn't have to screw it into the kayak. I did however have to cut an oval cut in the front part of the seat so I could still have access to the small storage compartment in the front of the seat. I will probably do another vid to show people how I did that. I also plugged the holes with foam golf balls which worked so much better than the scupper plugs the sporting goods sell. I also added some tie off anchor points to it for my anchor. I plan on a few more modifications... Glad you like the kayak

    I wish they would totally skip the tow compartment. No one uses it so they could put that wasted money back into the Kayak. For instance they could use more rivets on it instead of wood screws or an umbrella holder or a better seat or just about anything instead of that useless compartment

    I just bought this kayak as my third, my first two being sit in kayaks. I took it out Sunday - not as stable as my sit in fishing kayaks - narrower and you sit higher up on the water. I was a little disappointed in how it tracked, as it would turn shortly after I quit paddling - and this was on a smooth as glass lake. The wet rear bothered me too, so I will definitely be getting plugs and some sort of seat. I want to like it, but it is making it very hard. Any encouragement is welcomed.

    • @tonypogue
      @tonypogue  7 років тому +2

      See I also have 2 sit in kayaks but I found this one to be more stable than my other 2. Maybe because those have more of a v bottom. I did buy some scupper plugs but they didn't work. I then saw a youtube video where a guy used some practice golf balls to plug the holes. I actually had some in my garage so I tried them and they worked great. Don't buy the light foamy ones, buy the others that are made out of the harder foam. I had to get a screw driver and push down on them on the edges but they work so much better than the plugs, and cheaper. I hope your experience gets better.

    I had this for less than 3 hours before I returned to Walmart. It was terrible. I would paddle left and it would go right. Every wake made it want to roll a lot and the nose sat very low so would I would call small wakes crashed over the top.

    Does water Come in from underneath through those holes? Or coming over the top of the kayak?

    • @tonypogue

      the water comes in through the holes. you can buy scupper plugs to fill the holes. I actually bought some practice foam golf balls and plugged the holes with them. They worked great. I've never had water come over the top and I've been in some rapids and in some rough waters already.

    My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

    "The stability of it is really, really good." All credibility lost right there. I took mine back. I couldn't keep it from flipping. If I had been in deep water, even if I could have gotten back into it, I could not have continued on as it filled with water quickly. Most of my kayak fishing is done in gator infested waters. Falling out and making a commotion trying to get back in to shore is not ideal in that situation. A word to the wise: try this thing out before you waste your money. And before you say it; I have a Lifetime Tamarack that I can't flip no matter how hard I try to make it flip. So, I do know how to handle a kayak.

      @@walden6272 Looks like a cool idea. My luck, though, I'd be out in the middle of the lake and fetch a hook in it.

    Im new to kayak fishing and just wondering, would something like this be suitable for use in the ocean, say a mile or so out? If not, would outriggers make it more "sea worthy"? If not this kayak, can anyone recommend a stable kayak for ocean fishing (Preferably under $700). Stability is most important to me over tracking or looks or weight. Thanks! :)

    is the kayak stable?

      I found it to be pretty stable. I have two sit iin kayaks and this one is definitely more stable than those. Now my two sit in kayaks have a v bottom to them so they are a little wobbly. Now if you compare it to a $1000 kayak it's not going to compare but for the cost I think it's a great buy. I'm about 210 lbs and I have had no issues with it.
