    Great presentation!
    On single inline:
    I have been switching out to single in line and even single barbless for decades for various reasons.
    We started because I was guiding on rivers with special regs for steelhead and salmon...single barbless only.
    I feel STRONGLY that my number of hookups actually increased.
    I eventually took this to the beaches where we were fishing striper, California halibut and even lingcod.
    Same result...I think it is easier for the fish to bite and it is certainly easier to get the hook out.
    As far as "Long Range Release" goes with barbless, it never seems to be a problem if the client keeps pressure on the fish. This has proven true in at least one study that I know of.
    I love the SP when fishing steelies and salmon just above tidewater to the mouth of our coastal rivers. As long as they still taste salt they seem to remember what anchovies are and the strike is very different from an upstream strike. Far more aggressive.
    We switch to diving plugs upstream.
    SP's swim well right out of the box.
    I weigh the trebles and replace with a J hook of slightly larger gape and heavier wire that is as close to the weight of the treble as possible.
    I hope that my West Coast perspective is useful to someone.
    Again, great content here.
    Thanks!

      I use the stock hardware till it bends. Then replace the hooks for in-line. Works great in Socal for calicos in the kelp.

    When I was starting out trying to target stripers and bluefish I bought sp minnows. Now I transitioned over to yozuri and noticed a huge difference in catching stripers and blues alike. So I now exclusively buy the hydro pencil(similar to zara spook) for topwater, then the mag popper for my popper, then the mag darters for my minnow style plugs. And wouldn't switch to an sp unless it's the sp long cast white or the blurple lc.

      Hook2Cook I use another split ring instead of the cut hook. Works good. I don’t trust cutting the hook lol

    In line hooks kill less fish. I never use trebles for stripers.

    Floating or sinking version?

    Thoughts regarding always using inline singles and no trebles? Thoughts on single hook w/bucktail instead of hookless flag?

    Love this at the canal. But whats everybody throwing it on? Everything I use at the canal makes throwing this very difficult.

    • @richdunn9774
      @richdunn9774 4 роки тому

      YeaKid 40 I’ll throw it on my 10’6 St Croix. I’d get the bigger ones for there. Little heavier but limited in colors. But all you need is the Mac or bone colors which come in the bigger size.

    Hi do you always take off the split ring on the front of the lure?

    • @caperjim
      @caperjim 11 місяців тому

      If you use a clip like a tactical anglers or a coastal lock you dont need the split ring on the front. If you are tying direct then its best to leave a split ring on for best action of the lure.

      YeaKid 40 you can tie your own on regular stainless hooks then cut the hook point and bend off. Many good tackle shops will have flags pre tied as well.

    Are these SP minnows 7"? ... floating or sinking?

    • @caperjim
      @caperjim 11 місяців тому

      Most people use 6 inch floating version. I believe these were 6 inch. The stock treble on a 6 inch is 1/0.

    how do you attach the Treble to the swivel?

    • @williamwalsh6282
      @williamwalsh6282 3 роки тому

      You rig it by adding a split ring, then add the swivel then add a split ring to that ... then your lure can go onto that

    What is the recommended size split rings ?

    • @1Mannco
      @1Mannco 3 роки тому +2

      I'd go with 'size 5' in that #80 lb range...size 4 imo is a minimum. Using split ring plyers is great too.

    Inline is just better for the fish if you are releasing. You can release the hooks quicker. Think of the fish if you're just releasing them
