Very nice. I've been making 100% coconut soap for a few years here in Panama. I use oil that my neighbour makes by hand over an open fire (it smells beautifully smokey and is fabulous to cook with also). We have a river nearby with beautiful red clay and your video has inspired me to add a little to my batter. Thanks a lot for posting.
Little update. I added a few grams of my red clay slurry to the last few bars of my last batch and it looks great. A nice rosy orange. It will become a regular addition now.

So glad I came across this video this morning while eating my breakfast! I am planning to make 100% coconut oil soap today, and would have put it in a preheated 170° oven and turn it off! That would’ve been so so bad. Perfect timing! I will be pouring in a rectangular mold that makes 12 individual bars. I’ve heard if it cures too long it’s hard to cut, so not taking any chances! Thank you for all your hard work making these videos. I always learn so much from you!
So it's the pink clay that gives those swirls. It's therapeutic watching the process which may be the case if you're the person making the soap. The wire cutter looks as though it's also homemade. Enjoyed your video Holly.
Hello! I made two batches of 100% CO with 20% SF and even though I don't have dry skin it dried me up badly. So, I found that WSP suggests making it with 30% SF, not 20 like everyone else. Wow, what a difference! You should try it. It left my skin feeling clean but very moisturized.
I love working with coconut oil soap! Its so white and amazing and at 20% fat, not drying at all and very bubbly!!! Love the video! A question, curiously only, why did you pour in increments? Was it because of the mold you were using?
Thank you! Yes, I poured in increments because with this mold, pouring the in-the-pot swirl all at once tends to leave half the soap without any color or swirl. At least for me, anyway. When I started pouring the round soaps in increments like this, I got more soaps with interesting swirls. Thanks for asking!
Beautiful and excellent, as always - but what is the actual purpose of making a 100% coconut soap? Despite the 20% superfatting would it not be drying?
Thank you! I made it for a subscriber who requested the video. Single oil soaps are definitely interesting to try. However, I found the soap incredibly drying to the skin even with the extra superfat. Coconut oil in high percentages is just too cleansing for me. I’ve heard from a lot of soapmakers who do like it, though. I’m sure it just depends on the person and their skin type. :)

Using soap there wouldn't be a great idea because of the pH, like you already mentioned. You want to keep the low pH to avoid infections etc., so water is just fine. Otherwise, you can buy specific body wash for ladies, which has a low pH. ;)

No problem! It’s a great question. When the oils (fats) combine with an alkali (in this case sodium hydroxide), a chemical reaction takes place called saponification that turns them into soap. Assuming it is made correctly, there’s no sodium hydroxide in the finished soap. Hope this helps! 😊

Hello Holly. Such a beautiful soap making. You inspired me to do soap making and now my desk is full of tools and ingredients for soap making. Question, do you think the clay would be the cause of the crack if not putting into the freezer?
How do you how much lye, water and cocunut to use?? And if I do use coconut oil what is the super fats percentage?? Would appreciate it if you can explain or if you can make a video about it
hi dear am new to soap making just saw the video and was looking for some calculation here , so if am not wrong the coconut oil is 80%and 20% is superfat or coconut oil is 100% and 20 % is superfat , and can u tell me the calculation for water and lye how much u have taken, am just trying to learn so if you can tell me how much percent water and how much percent lye in this will be great , might be silly question sorry for that ;)
Thanks! Once the lye and oils are completely combined, saponification (chemical reaction of lye and oils becoming soap) will begin. As this process occurs, the soap will get thicker and thicker (starting with emulsification and continuing through various stages of what we call trace). Trace is when you can dribble soap back on top of your batch, and it doesn’t sink back in immediately (leaves a trace on top). This particular 100% coconut oil soap gets very hot. It even gelled in the freezer. I tried leaving another batch on the counter (uncovered), and it split down the middle due to the heat. :)
Amazing! I never would have guessed that saponification can generate that much heat. Perhaps with pure coconut oil soap, it would help to start with ice cubes instead of water. I've read that some really like working with ice cubes, but now I'm thinking that they wouldn't work with all oils.
Hello I am new to your child that is so beautiful what you're doing this is the first video that I've ever seen did a person made it look so simple and easy thank you so much I look forward to one day soon making my own soap I like to ask you a question the thing that you have that cuts the soap is that expensive and where can you purchase it from thank so much
Thank you! I purchased the cutter from Bud Haffner on Etsy.com. There’s a link below the video if you need it. But you can just go to Etsy or even Google and search his name to find it. I can’t remember how much I paid. It’s been years ago. :)
Not at all. I just like to soap around room temperature. It gives me a little longer working time for swirls, and the lower temp (combined with a water discount) can help me prevent gel if I ever want to do that. With this soap, it was really just about the convenience of preparing everything the night before and also doing the swirl. But really it’s just personal choice. Thanks for asking! :)
You’re welcome! Unfortunately, no, the lower temp doesn’t help me with ash. I wish it did! :) The only thing that helps me reduce ash is when I cover the soap immediately with a lid, wrap it in a blanket, and don’t even peek at it for 2 to 3 days. That way, saponification is pretty much complete, and there’s no excess sodium hydroxide left to react with carbon dioxide in the air. :)
Hey hope u reply this would love to know So all the ingredients you used will make it be soapy like Normal soap or u have to add soap base? Will the pink clay make it soapy?
Big question: How long should it be left to saponify (turn to soap), since as a teenager I made some and had to leave for many weeks for the ph to become safe?
HI Holly, thanks for all your lovely, motivating and soothing videos. I have a question if you please. I do not have access to pink kaolin clay where I live, only white is available. How can I wing this please?

Beautiful soap. Will it make any foam?
How hot during saponification? I've been wondering for a long time. Not just slightly warm, I presume, since you put it in the freezer.
Hi Holly! Can we add fragrances to this recipe?!
Best diy i seen so far. U kept it simple n showed the important stuff. I saw 3 before this one that ended without showing end result.
how long it will stay? will this soap melt when it is the hot weather? and is it suitable to use if i have a dry skin?
Thanks :)
Wow this was beautiful 😍 can you please put the recipe of how to make a soap base. Please....
Yes u are making very pretty soap but I think it's very hard any easy way. Such a beautiful soap I love it
Hello I am new to your child that is so beautiful what you're doing this is the first video that I've ever seen did a person made it look so simple and easy thank you so much I look forward to one day soon making my own soap I like to ask you a question the thing that you have that cuts the soap is that expensive and where can you purchase it from thank so much
Thank you! I purchased the cutter from Bud Haffner on Etsy.com. There’s a link below the video if you need it. But you can just go to Etsy or even Google and search his name to find it. I can’t remember how much I paid. It’s been years ago. :)
besides the pink clay did you add water to the solution? or is this anhydrous
Hi! I noticed that you soap the coconut oil and lye at 78°. I make this same soap between 100° and 110°. Is 78° better ?
Thank you! I have been making coconut oil soap for about 5 years amd still learning! If you soap at 78° does that cut down on soda ashe?
You’re welcome! Unfortunately, no, the lower temp doesn’t help me with ash. I wish it did! :) The only thing that helps me reduce ash is when I cover the soap immediately with a lid, wrap it in a blanket, and don’t even peek at it for 2 to 3 days. That way, saponification is pretty much complete, and there’s no excess sodium hydroxide left to react with carbon dioxide in the air. :)
@@hollysoapmaking Thank you so much for the reply and info!!!!
When you talk about a 20% SF it is also CO or another oil? Thanks
Hi, Holly, I was wondering… how was the soap? Did you like it?
might can do this the soap looks like it smells good
Hi... may i know how long we should wait before we could use it?
Is it true that soap will get harder when we put 100% coconut oil? Than 100% palm oil?
Hey hope u reply this would love to know
So all the ingredients you used will make it be soapy like Normal soap or u have to add soap base?
Will the pink clay make it soapy?
Very helpful maa'm but please can you show us the lye preparation for the soap?
Thank you for that .but please can you tell me the weight of oil &lye in gram ❤❤
Beautiful, I can only make melt and pour soap. I am a beginner. Would love to be a pro ☺
Big question: How long should it be left to saponify (turn to soap), since as a teenager I made some and had to leave for many weeks for the ph to become safe?
Yes, 45 days
I luv ur video!!! I wanted to ask if I can use food coloring instead of mica powder and kaolin clay. Is it possible or will it wear off on your hands?
Hello! Very great. A question: what kind of super fat you added? And is your coconut oil liquid or it's liquid because it's warm? Thanks
Probably vegetable lard. That's what I used in college :-)
Can this soap direct used in that day?or Should I waited for 45 days for using that soap?
Awe you inspire me! Keep up the great work!
BRILLIANT AND WELL DONE
looks good but what about the lather?
HI Holly, thanks for all your lovely, motivating and soothing videos.
I have a question if you please.
I do not have access to pink kaolin clay where I live, only white is available.
How can I wing this please?
I have read that coconut oil is very drying...but great for lather
for some maybe, but not everyone. I love this soap
Thanks for your video. I want to make soap in my district with coconut oil, can you help me how to do it start to end?
So elegant. This video is reminding me I had planned on doing another batch of coconut oil soap too. :)
Wow! I really enjoyed watching the video and it inspired me to make my own soap! Thank you so much! I'm definitely subscribing for more !

Can you please inbox to my email???
Did you make it ?
I enjoyed the video and I love the non-talk thru-out the video.
Can you break down or explain How do yo calculate the lye gram?
Hello thanks for sharing. I wanna know if I can use this pink kaolin.clay for a shampoo bar. Thank you😊
I’d guess yea due to the fact that it’s safe for skin (bc it was used in soap) but you may want to double check 😂 x
would the soap melt if i have it shipped and it stays in the heat for a few days depending on when the person receives it?
merci pour cette belle video mais je veux savoir c'est pour quel type de peau ce joli savon 🤗
