Absolutely delighted to have the brilliant Michael Cheika at Tigers. McKellar was unimpressive and seemed clueless at times. Apparently the senior players wanted him out. My concern now is that it's late to be bringing in new players to replace Wiese, a key role and a brilliant player.
From this side (SA), it was only reported yesterday that Pollard was playing under him at Leicester Tigers. Wasn't aware Cheika was only appointed yesterday. Cheika's had an eventful life.
I am leicester born and bred. shocked at mckellar leaving. basically we wrote off the last season and were hoping more for next season with a more settled coaching team. Cheika has potential however the sinical part of my brain is wondering whether this was the boards plan all along seeing as there were rumours of talks with Cheika before the appointment of Mckellar...
It is a potentially great signing that Tigers couldn't miss out on. It could work really well. However, it doesn't feel long term (2 years, maybe) and, given his big personality, could lead to a lot of clashes!
In theory Chieka is a major scoop. Wherever he has coached he's improved the team. I was shocked and angry at McKellar leaving more so because of the circumstances such of the lack of an attack coach etc. The problem with Chieka is the 1 year contract. Will he be here in 18 months time and the same merry go round starts again
Cheika an International Coach is a good fit for Tigers as he carries conviction. The last coach did not and the second from bottom tells you the player review the board receives in confidence must have revealed this. The Club has developed a lot in many areas and the U20 is a sign off that. Borthwick Got a tune out off what he had so much Kudos to him. The Squad this season is having less turnover. Suddenly Dan Mckellar is back in Australia at a top club with an eye to the future with Australia. Seems to me everyone got what they wanted. Your angst is over.
Sounds like he must have done something unacceptable? Doesn't make sense for them to confirm him and then less than 2 weeks later, drop him. Must've been some serious disagreement. Unless, as you say, they might have dropped him as soon as Cheika became available... that would be rather poor form. Like what happened to Rennie when Eddie Jones became available. Look how that turned out.
Obviously we shouldn't read too into things, but if it is how it looks from my perspective, and McKellar was pushed out after just one season, it's quite disrespectful from the tiger higher ups. I know their season was bad, but it really feels like the people in charge just did not know what they were doing after borthwick left and are happy to make McKellar a scapegoat for the whole affair. He wasn't really given the resources to succeed. You'd maybe expect this from football but it's quite rare in rugby and a bi of a shame to see.
So they got rid of McKeller cos he couldn’t fix things in a year…..and appointed the Jose Mourinho, one year specialist Chieka 😂😂 Good luck Leicester fans, you’re going to need it.
Mate you should be in South Africa with Tim to cover the Ireland series and experience our rugby culture 😅
Mate would love to! Very jealous of Tim, what a trip. Hopefully another time.

Franco Smith must be very happy with his Scottish team
