    IMPORTANT WARNING FOR PROPER FUSE INSTALL
    Please note that 2 of the 4 washers for the 300A fuse installation (around 35.30) should be on the NUT side and not as shown on top of the fuse. If you tighten the nut too much the nut will deform the fuse contact and will fall through which can lead to a bad contact and potential fire hazard. The instructions should clarify this. Here is the correct washer install photo:

    Thank you so much for making this video. I still haven't bought a new unit yet so this will be a big help. I haven't watched it all yet but I look forward to seeing what if any tweaks it may benefit from!

    I'm just a DIY guy but if you put both washers on one side of the fuse terminal, you will eventually pull the screw through the wide terminal opening = no power. Mine pulled through on setup. I then put the steel washer on the bottom side of the terminal and the gold on top. Solved. Otherwise, nicely done video by a very knowledgeable reviewer.

      I agree, the instructions showed to mount the washers this way for some reason - I did eventually put one on each side later after having checked the clearances respect to the 3d printed container (was worried it would be "lifted"). Also the crimped connectors in my case had to be mounted flipped in order to fit - trivial things to check.

    As ammended in the description below the video, the 2pcs steel washers go under the fuse. From the online assembly instructions: "Place it in the following order on the nuts: steel washer -> ANL300A Fuse -> brass washer -> cable shoe of the cable -> M5x10 screw".

    ❤Hi, thanks for this vid! I followed all your steps (including wrong mounting of the black cable and dismantling and rotating it) and after more or less 1 hour I was ready to weld. Works well and it was very good for me to have your instructions. Now I ordered 60 cells and will weld my new battery soon. I made a test with an old cell and increased the time up to 20ms. Do you think I should be careful and have a risk of welding a hole in the cell and should stay shorter than 20ms? BTW in Germany a 5.5mm-nut is a standard nut for our metric system;-). Thank you very much!😊

      The current through the weld is really what it boils down to getting a good weld, so it really depends on what power source you have, if a large AGM car battery or LiPo pack, you need to calibrate the welds by doing some tests using strips on old LiIon cells like you did. I sincerely doubt you will punch a hole in those cells (unless something goes catastrophically wrong) as the negative pole (which is the whole case up to the top) is rather thick while the positive is actually not under pressure and not directly in contact with the pressurized cell - it's crimped to a pressure safety valve which in some cases includes a Polyswitch to limit the current if you short it out for too long or cracks open to release the pressure in a controlled way to prevent explosion. LiPo cells such as the 18650 by Samsung or Sony/Panasonic (OEM) are pretty safe and robust as well engineered and very rarely fail explosively even when punctured. It is the aftermarket "clones" which are highly dubious and potentially dangerous.In comparison, much more care must be taken with older NiCd or NimH cells which handle much higher pressure and can potentially explode if punctured (but don't burst into flames like LiPos).

      @@Luca_Techy I have several videos on it. I am in US. It was working fine. I did a lot of spot welding with it no problem. I ship it in Haiti, someone there plug it to the battery the wrong way. I am not sure what is wrong, I will know on March when I go there

    • @Luca_Techy
      @Luca_Techy  Рік тому +1

      Ok so it's a user error. Reversing the polarity is never a good thing: the Arduino and driver shouldn't be damaged as it has reverse diode protection for the decoupling caps but the inputs may suffer. Swapping out the arduino nano is easy if it doesn't turn on at all then you can see from there what's happening (check the FETs and 1407 driver).

      Hi, at the moment it's on standby - I will try to when I get some more welds (I wanted to get some scope shots of longer welds for the double pulse analysis) done as at the moment I am not using it (no packs to be done or re-done!).

    Attention! 36:25, don't install the washers as shown. One must be underneath the fuse with the nut! My cable loosened because nut without washer is not enough and built a short circuit inside the casing. Fortunately no damage, only one nut melted a bit. High risk of fire!

    • @Luca_Techy
      @Luca_Techy  Рік тому

      Yes, I just mentioned that in the description, I did in fact move the 2 washers in front of the nut.

      Hi, I haven't got my hands on one, but by the looks of it it has the same basic design as the purple "99 gears" spot welder which I reviewed apart from the 3 digit LED display and the 8 FETs. The opto/driver is not decoupled so it can suffer from the same undervoltage gate drive if batteries are weak (take it all with a grain of salt as I haven't REId it). The cost is acceptable for such a design though I would always decouple the Gate drive (and it lacks again a proper driver). Thanks!

    Always good information, thank you. I have 2 of the red spot welders and I'm going to do the 100 ohm and 47 ohm resistor upgrade but would it be OK to do the capacitor upgrade too? Thanks for any reply.

    • @Luca_Techy
      @Luca_Techy  Рік тому +2

      It depends what Mini Spot welder version you have: if it's the "New Rev 0" with the voltage booster then you don't need an additional cap as it has already a large enough decoupling cap, you just need the resistor mods. If it's the old Rev 0 then yes you just need the additional cap (just that mod). If it's any of the other versions (Bk/Bl) then you need to follow the specific indicated mods depending on your version.

    so is this your main unit now? still working? id love to see this VS the modded purple one or maybe you did that already ill have to check your videos. have you tested the sequre sw1 its the malectrics v3 basically in a nice heavy shell. just curious. time for me to buy something again and since my v4 didn't hold up long im torn on what the heck to buy now. kweld is very nice but more then 500$ all in which is more then I want to spend now. I'm in the process of modding my purple ones with the extra 5 fets now to try those out I prefer the control and nicer oled here though of course lol.

    I checked the schematics and I don’t see 5v regulator , seems like it uses arduino’s regulator to power 5v oled and encoder.

    • @Luca_Techy
      @Luca_Techy  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes in fact it does. The Arduino on board regulator is sufficient for the Oled (and low power or signal peripherals such as the rotary).
