    Whenever I see a battle report involving Dwarfs, I immediately predict a massive catastrophic loss for the Dawi.

    3 Gyrocopters with clatterguns would make you happy and a Second unit with a Trollhammer.

      I've been scouring ebay for a Gyro even older than mine. Otherwise I'll have to settle for a modern one.

    I think Rangers are a really strong and versatile unit. A minimum size unit can be a screen or chaff unit while causing damage and being hard to kill. A larger units can dish out serious damage and provide your opponent no good options.
    And of course you can easily decide how to use them in the deployment phase.

    • @andrewbakescakes9684
      @andrewbakescakes9684 9 місяців тому

      The other good thing about Rangers is that they are internally imbalanced, errr, I mean "really efficient for their points", relative to Quarrelers (which are awful for their points).

    The Anvil absolutely works well, by stopping enemy wizards from coming forward and throwing hexes at your units. Itchy Nuisance for example, would casually rob your Dwarfs of their nice, high T. The same with the crystal pillar that blocks LOS from your warmachines.

    Thanks, enjoyed it. I also used to take a similar Dwarf list with war machines and fighting blocks but it doesn't look as good in this edition. I think Dwarfs are one of those factions where you could go full linehammer. Infantry seem relatively weak without it unfortunately..

      My tournament list this weekend only has one fighty block in it.

    Good report thanks. Only played a couple of games but I'm liking thay there's a fair amount of familiar but slightly different mechanics to 8th ed. With Skaven and Dwarfs as my warhammer armies I'm feeling a bit sad face about them both being quite underwhelming in terms of their traditional strengths and playstyles

    Miners in a gun line list…maybe to reserve them to deploy behind the war machines to counter charge war machine hunters? In this case on your left flank behind the mangler/hoppers?

    • @Andy2D6
      @Andy2D6  9 місяців тому +1

      My understanding is that Stand & Shoot reactions can't be taken against random movement because it is in a different sub-phase. Charge reactions are taken after the enemy has declared charges, and random movement happens before that.
      You are correct about Irondrakes in the case of normal charges, so I shouldn't have used them as an example when explaining the logic of random movers denying Stand & Shoot.
      I believe it was played correctly.

    I can't see Miners having a role IMO. They essentially pay 3 points pm for ambush and, as you say, M3 makes it really hard for them.
    You really need the enemy to have an ideal target, and then you're stranded.
    Maybe a minimum size unit could be worth it?
    I plan to field a big unit of warriors with GW using miner models and maybe a cool unit filler.

    Ive got about 15 games under my belt with the dwarfs, and a roughly 50/50 win rate.
    I think the Runelord with the Master Rune of Balance is a better all-round dispelling unit than the anvil. You lose the extra +1 to dispel the anvil has over the Runelord, but you gain the mobility of being where you want.

    • @Andy2D6
      @Andy2D6  9 місяців тому +1

      I'm gonna keep rotating my dispel units with different builds and see which one I like best.

  • @Kcignatius
    @Kcignatius 9 місяців тому +1

    Runelords only get +2 dispel at short range. Also, like wizards, they can't dispel in combat. They're not so great or easy to use. IMO for half the cost the Runesmith is better, you get the same buffs and dispel range. Yeah, it's only +1, but paying double points for +2 is a hard sell.
    Anvil gets +3 at long range, but also has the longest ranged spells in the game, so can often cast from outside the dispel range of your opponent.
    No doubt the Dwarfs have the worst options for dispelling.

    • @Andy2D6
      @Andy2D6  9 місяців тому +1

      It is a conundrum, alright. Just gotta keep trying different army compositions to get the most out of them.

  • @TheJankmaster

    Just opinion on the anvil, being able to control areas may have more utility in objective-based games.
    Depending on the rules, and how effective they are on shutting down Magic.
    I don’t have the rules at hand…they were banned at some point in the past, so maybe they are still being treated with that level of respect because of their previous impact

    After two months of playing twice a week and trying everything, but the flame cannon I am still struggling to find a good army build with dwarfs. I don't claim to be a good general but the other two local dwarf generals I know are having the same struggles. My W-L ratio is awful 😂

      @@Andy2D6 Rangers always seem to be a solid choice, I hate to say auto include on anything but rangers and probably gyrocopters fall under that. Usually if they don't perform well it is my fault due to placement or not adding some support or another threat like a gyrocopter for them.

    You are right on Miners. Usually not very good. They are artillery hunters, but artillery is weak this edition, so ...
    I would also avoid Slayers, Quarrelers, and Thunderers. Rangers have a much better profile and Scout for just a few points more than the Quarrelers/Thunderers. And Slayers...easily one of the worst units in the game right now.

    I haven't played TOW, so take this with a "pinch" of salt as you would say on the other side of the pond.
    5 Irondrakes with a Trollhammer looks great. I think they're worth bringing two units because the Trollhammer has almost identical hitting power to the cannon.
    I would think that if you're going for the Anvil, you would want even more ranged damage than usual to force the enemy to come to you. You can (ironically) skimp on anvils (the wargame term, not the dwarf hero unit) a little bit because the Anvil can buff their defenses.
    I like two gyrocopters as well for harassing war machines and spellcasters. Just having the copters on the table means your opponent will have to protect those somehow.
    Most lists I have seen go with King on shieldbearers with some defensive runes (especially the one that prevents multiwounds and killing blow) and a Thane as a BSB. That seems like a solid option to have the King buff a unit of Hammerers and the Thane buff a unit of Longbeards. There is a banner rune that gives a 5+ ward to the unit and 6+ ward against shooting only to nearby units which I find quite appealing.
    I liked the Rune of Skewering on the Bolt Thrower at first, but it's actually a pretty big points increase, taking the Thrower from 55 to 75. The strength bonus is pretty good, but it already has AP -3, so the bonus from the "no armor save permitted" part of the rune is really only going to matter against Heroes I think.
    I don't like the organ gun anymore. It has a wild variation. I think the same points invested into a unit of Thunderers or Quarrelers is going to be a similar damage output, but more consistent and can actually have a chance of doing something in combat.
    Those aren't all of my thoughts, but those are the ones I feel most confident sharing based on theory alone.

    • @Andy2D6
      @Andy2D6  9 місяців тому +1

      I quite like the look of the new King on Shieldbearers, so I'll probably add one of those when it is released.
      I'm definitely having fun trying out all the different units. It'll take me a while to nail down which ones work best together, even though on paper some appear to be superior choices.

  • @kurukblackflame

    Good game! Thanks for posting. I'm not too impressed with shooting in the Old World. Too many negative mods on regular shooting and war machines are not very scary plus you're only likely to get a couple of shooting phases in anyway. I'd say with Dwarfs take a small amount (maybe two war machines and a small unit of shooters) just to encourage the enemy to get closer but put most of your points into rock solid combat infantry units :) Which is what I used to do in 8th ed, tbh. Points are better spent on combat blocks and powerful combat characters.

      @Andy2D6  9 місяців тому

      Interesting. The music has always been there but set very low. In the last video I had to fiddle with some settings and turned it up. A couple of people told me it was cool so I left it this way for the new video. I don't think it's that critical, so I'll turn it down again in future. Thanks for the feedback.
