I like this approach in sketching. Specially in a complicated shape cityscape. With watercolor first and ink later I can get the correct shape and perspective. If I make mistake at the first attempt it easily to lift up the paint or just ignore it when put the ink line.
For the longest time, I'd struggle with the voice in my head looking for "perfection" in my art. Somethings come easy, others would frustrate me to the point of quitting for long periods of time. Your videos have gone a long way in changing my mindset - the art I'm making is supposed to be a fun, creative exercise and the lack of perfection is what makes it my own and I should embrace that! I tell the people in my life I'm getting back into art and credit your videos - so I wanted to say thank you, Toby!

Wonderful sketch and watercolour. Your videos make all of us so happy to realise that we can just dive in and start creating with no worries about lack of measurements and perfect lines. So refreshing. Thank you. ♥️👍 🇨🇦
Lovely bright, loose colours. I like the paint first technique - the way it comes together from just a mess is really satisfying. I'll have a go at this soon👍
Bravo! ❤. Hey you asked for ideas and I was wondering if you could do a series of beaches, waves, sun reflections, people on the beach. Sunsets on the water. Thanks! ❤
I love your painting Toby!!. So much more interesting than the original picture. The colors are so vibrant and alive. I, for one, would not mind having it as my own. ❤
Oh, wow!!! I really love your take on the 'three brothers' ; the colours you've chosen and how you've used pen to define the buildings. I've got to give this a go, even tho I'm just a beginner! I love how you see a suggested (mine lol) subject and just freely go with it! You make it all look so easy to sketch loose! I'm going to have to find another challenge for you! You've done Tobermory and Three Brothers. I'll be on my travels again soon so I'll be making more suggestions 😉
@@TobySketchLoose I've just come back from York. The old buildings in the Shambles were amazing; all quirky, lopsided and quaint. Would love to see your take on one or more of them...
I purchased a fountain pen and the ink came together is not water resistant. I planned to buy water resistant ink. Guess what? After watching this video no need to buy water resistant ink. First paint then draw the outer lines... Thank you...

Exciting to watch the ease, color and movement of hand, paint and ink.
thank you :)
I think I have found my new watercolor challenge. Love this and will look for the Fude ink pen!,,

Was that a water based pen at the end ?
My normal waterproof ink :)
Very nice sketch, light and colorfull. Have you accelerate the procedure? it was more stressfull than usual.
I haven't, it's all at real time - sorry it was stressful! I think I natrually work in a flurry with this technique
Sometimes you have to watch a couple times, it's happened to me too!😊
Lovely!
What kind of marker have you used?
It's the tombow fude pen up on my website - urbansketch.co.uk/supplies :)

Fantastic! I am learning a lot with your videos. Many thanks, ML
