When he first started being The Flash he hated the idea of losing anyone else, he learned how to time travel, and he could have saved Nora, Henry, Ronnie, and Eddie from death, which he did but then let it go back to save everyone else, and now he knows that he can never change the timeline to save someone, he tried to save Oliver post-crisis because Oliver literally made a deal with a god to lose everything he's worked his ass off to get to save Barry. When Wells', Frost and Iris died in Seasons 7-8, Barry had to accept that they were gone, Iris was obviously more difficult but even if she had really died in 8x19, Barry wouldn't have changed the timeline, not because he's selfish, but because he knows the outcome could be 1000x worse. Barry will alwuas make the tuff calls so others don't have to suffer through his happiness
It always felt like the Wells’ death was a waste. Only a couple episodes later they destroyed the artificial speed force making the death of Nash and the Wells’ mean nothing.
