    Isn't this the button for the center console to fit the empty spot. If you are up for it, it would be interesting to see you do this version. Of course, you already put a hole in your car so maybe not.

      @@JamesKlafehn May be too soon for you to have received yours but I'm finding the aliexpress page is a little confusing. The "color" options seems to provide different switch options -- various single switch options, some with connector/harness, or multiple switches. I'd be curious what you ordered and what you actually receive. I'm not sure if I should try to pick an option that appears to come with connector and wire harness. Please do a follow up video!

    I’m 65 years old now but use to do things like you are doing them. Back in the day I was the guy that would cut a hole in a brand new dashboard and install a under Dash eight track tape player in the dash and when I was done it would look factory. No kits back then you had to make everything by hand…

    I like your willingness to jump in and figure out the electrical. You might consider getting a two day access to the Toyota TIS factory procedure and wiring system and then download everything you might need. While you are online to TIS each procedure has links to common procedures as well. As far as the video, you might consider a tripod instead of the head mount. Most likely a Sony camera with optical zoom will be your ultimate choice but the gopro is good for the selfie stick. Finally, making a simple drawing with pin numbers and colors would help communicate things like your relay and connector wiring. Either cut it in with a little voiceover or make it a link in the description. Would really be next level. I would also use typical relay terms such as Common, Normally Open (NO), Normally Closed (NC), Coil + and -. Keep up the good work.

    • @JamesKlafehn
      @JamesKlafehn  3 роки тому

      Very good question. I have thought about playing around with this too. Coming from a Tesla where they track and collect your data every second I kinda liked the idea of being in control of this myself. I also thought of trying to give the WIFI module constant power so I have access to WIFI when the car is off. Like when camping or at the beach. Currently wifi is only on when the car is on. It would also be nice for this to have constant power to always be sending data from a dash cam to your phone. However, the ATT plan is only 1 gb. I used that in a couple days when I first bought the car. I havent used it since. Its not very good.

So I opted for a 360 dash cam to lessen reliance on wiring the car.

      I used the OEM mounting bolts. The whole point of going with the Vanguard rack is because I could use the oem mounting bolts and NOT remove the OEM rails. Removing them is what causes water damage. ua-cam.com/play/PLuMPs5qUmnoRhiJaAQJQj-7KQN2RAcXRO.html Thanks for watching!

    Hey James, loving your Prime videos! I just got a Prime XSE myself, and you've inspired me to look into swapping the order of the switches on mine as well. I also noticed the XSE has a row of 5 switches between the dimmer and tailgate button. I wonder if you can swap yours out for an XSE panel so you have room for an extra switch in there? Here's a pic of my XSE: imgur.com/a/PwrJSb3

      Poor car, heck poor next owner who buys this lease buyback
      This is total stupidity. The dude is tearing into the electrical connected to a computer and he does not own it.
      When an error message appears guarantee Toyota will plug it into the mainframe and discover his stupidity.
      Do not do what he is doing. You will void the warranty.

      @@rncondie lol I am definitely not "tearing into" anything. I have a long history in the automotive world. I know exactly what I am doing. Nothing I am doing is irreversible or traumatic to the car. Nothing is going to void the warranty. You are welcome to skip my videos if they are too triggering for you.

    Hold my beer while I make this way more complicated than it needs to be......... Instead of just wiring a 12v supply from a switch to the reverse camera wire, I'll add a relay and multiple wires.

      @JamesKlafehn  Рік тому

      Yes you need a relay to be safe.

      Agree, some people thinks relay is needed everywhere
