Thrifted Jeans to Designer Dupes| Thrift Store Makeover #2

- Hey guys this week I tackle some more Thrift Store Makeovers. This time around I tackle some denim makeovers. I tried something I've never done before which was duping expensive designer jeans using thrifted jeans. The first pair of jeans I duped were the Ulla Johnson Genevieve Jeans. They have a simple design with a seam running up the front and back or each leg. The second pair of jeans were the Bettter Net Sustain jeans. This dupe was a little harder since I had to cut open the side of the leg. Then use a second pair of jeans to cut up and make a panel. The final pair of duped jeans I tackled making where the Citizen of Humanity Ayla Jeans. I absolutely love these embroidered jeans and I'm really happy with how my thrifted pair turned out. Overall I'm super happy with each Thrift Store Makeover and I'll definitely be trying to dupe more expensive clothes.
Mailey, the third pair of jeans are so gorgeous and I will definitely do something similar! Thanks for the inspiration 👍👍👍😍👌
I'm so glad you like them! Thanks so much for watching!! 🥰
Thank you so much for showing how to take in the waist of jeans. That was so clearly explained and shown. You really are a good teacher.
Thank you so much!!! I'm so glad you my instructions were clear. Sometime I second guess my ability to explain things. haha
To be honest, I almost didn't watch this video because I'm used to your home decorating/house project content. But I actually LOVED this! Loved hearing more of who you are/what you used to do, and you were so educational and helpful. You've inspired me to want to get my sewing machine out! I love the concept of repurposing thrifted clothes. Thank you for your video!
Oh wow thanks so much for giving this video a chance!!! I love repurposing 2nd hand items no matter what they are. I love a good clothing thrift flip. I'm so glad you could follow my instructions... thanks so much for watching!
Great job! In the 80s I used to buy thrift store pants and would hem them or take them in if needed. I would take off the belt loop, open up the seam and have at it. I really like how you took your pants in with those two cuts running down into the pocket - you don't have to deal with those double or triple stitched seams. I'm going to file that one away in my head, even if I don't sew anymore.
Unfortunately I usually have to add length onto my pants haha! But I love a good second hand clothing alteration no matter what thy are. And yes I think its the quickest and easiest way to take in pants. The best part is you can easily seam rip them open to either let them out or taking them in with flux weight. 🥰
Thanks for sharing these tips, Mailey! I’ve been sewing for over 50 years and really appreciated how you inserted the darts down under the pockets-borderline genius!! 😊👏👏👏🙏
Thank you so much! Gotta give my costume professor and mentor credit. He was an amazing teacher!
I am currently in the last stages in my second pregnancy🤰🏼 and my body have changed alot during this, so your video came just in time! Going to try and use some of my old jeans and pants, and make them fit, instead og having to use alot of money buying new clothes😍 Love them all, and thanks for keeping it relatively easy for us all🥰
OMG congrats! I'm so glad I could help! Knowing how to sew and do even minor alterations can help you out so much. That way as you body changes you can take things in and out as you need to. So glad you feel like you can tackle these projects!
Omg I loved the Younger series so much!!
Oh so glad you liked it definitely one of my favorite shows I worked on1 I have some of those clothes in my closet now! 😂
So cool you can do this. Way beyond my capabilities! They turned out amazing!
Oh you could definitely do this!!! 🥰
Awkward? You are a great person. I like your personality and your giggles. Again a really nice inspiration! I may tray it. Once again I am glad that some day YT recommended me, sitting in Bavaria in good old Germany, your channel. 😉 Mona
Haha just a little awkward modeling in front of the camera. 😂😂😂 I never know what to do! I'm so glad you found my channel too thanks so much for all the support! Cheers from 🇺🇸
Those designer Jeans look very well done Mailey! 😊 the flower design that you did looks really well done! Keep up the goodwork with your videos!
Thanks so much!
@@MaileyElaine Your Welcome! 😊
Great execution! Thanks to you Mailey, I'll try sewing. You make it look do-able 😊 I like all 3 dupes but I prefer the 3rd one. Thank you!!!
So glad you like them!!! And you should definitely try some they are so fun!! 🥰
The black are my favorites! 👍
Mine too or at least they are the ones I have worn the most often since I finished all three. Thanks so much for watching!
I look forward to making my own idea projects with my grandchildren! Thanks!
Of course! Thanks for watching!
It's great to see a young woman sewing! My girls have no interest in learning from me.
Oh tell them they'll be so thankfully they learn how to sew. It's like the gateway into learning how to make and build so many things!
I am inspired! Luv the black jean and my favorite is the lace applique!
They black jeans I think are my favorite comfort wise they fit so nicely and are so comfortable. Then the appliqué ones are my favorite looks wise. Thanks so much for watching!
@@MaileyElaine I really enjoy your videos and have been watching for about a year.
@@catherinethorington3452 So glad you found my channel!
Love this video, the 3rd pair are my favourite 😊❤
Mine too! Thanks so much for watching!
Love the lace! Use your free motion foot! So much faster.
Thank you and haha I have one couldn’t find it! So had to do it the slow way
1) can you just hand sew a dart?
2) I think you need to make some area jeans…they’re super cool and I think would be a pretty easy DIY?
3) I’m going to need a pair of those two tone jeans. ❤
You can hand sew a dart I would just recommend a thicker thread and look up how to do a hand sewing dart... there's a specific technique to it. And area jeans were almost on the list for this video definitely next time. Since your blood I'll make you anything haha!
that wasa fun video
Thank you so much, glad you liked it! 🥰
Could you use fabric glue or fusing material to attach the lace applications, only doing quick sew around outside edges?
I think the fabric glue or fusing material would show so I wouldn’t recommend it. And I would just sew around all the pieces. Even though it takes longer
Where did you get the lace?! You made such beautiful jeans!
Here are the links for the applique I used...
