That would’ve been a much better series than the one with the Celtics. Cavs would’ve still won but it would’ve been a better series if they played the wizards
You mean the average at best Wiz front office NEVER went all in to actually WIN NOW. The biggest move the made was picking up Dwight Howard. Sad. The organization gave up on John so I hope Beal can leave and win somewhere else whenever he decides.
Its a shame what happened to the Wizards with Wall and Beal they had so much potential and people forget that they were a game 7 away from being in the conference finals against the Cavs
Russ ruined our tank. He’s the reason we ran this back and gave Tommy another five years to ruin everything. And of COURSE he wouldn’t stay here, he knows this team will never accomplish anything of worth.
Wall will always be my favourite player for the way he was on and off the court in DC, sad they never got any further than the game 7 against the celtics
The Wizards have been the most bang-average NBA team. Ever since that one ring in 1978, they just haven't done much. They weren't always terrible, and they've been good from time to time, but you've never heard someone say that the Wizards are a favorite to win a ring or at least make a deep playoff run (in recent memory).
I really believe we will see this team complete for a ring and in this east in theses playoffs look at what Miami is doing and the hawks got to the conference finals against the bucks so in any giving year it can be the wizard's time
Not really. That was only partially a problem. Most of the problems were in the front office. They never built a serious team around Wall/Beal. It was always left overs they got or straight up garbage. Even when Pierce was there he didn't stay long, and he was probably the best piece they had built around Wall and Beal.
The one thing I love about my favorite team in the wizards was are ability to never back down from a challenge we came in the playoffs won some series but most importantly we showed that we aren’t a team to be pushed around we are 💪🏾
Apperciate you doing this fam if it weren’t for injuries and some choking in the playoffs Wizards would of def been a force to be wrecked with in the east 💯💯
I loved this team it’s sad how they fell apart in the last 15years . They waited too long to fire Ernie Grunfeld before it was too late . They failed to put talent & depth around Wall & Beal. Even in the Areanas days.
injuries and a bad supporting cast ruined the team. In 2015, they went to 6 games with a 1st seeded hawks team while Wall had a broken hand and beal got injured for a game as well. If Wall didn't hurt his hand and beal didn't get hurt they likely would've won in 5 and would've played an injured Cavs team. In 2017, wall beal and the starting lineup was killing it but their bench averaged like an atrocious 7 pts and couldn't match up with Boston's depth. The wizards would've matched up well against the Cavs that year, and if they had at least some kind of bench would've been contenders cuz they statistically had the 2nd best starting lineup in the NBA after the warriors. Ted Leonsis waited way too long to fire Ernie Grunfeld, if Tommy Sheppard became GM I guarantee he would've been able to surround them with talent. Ernie let bogdanovic go to sign Otto Porter to a max deal, payed Ian Mahinmi a 64 million deal to be a benchwarmer, traded Oubre for an old Trevor aria etc. Sad what wall and beal had to go through man
that used to hurt my soul to see. The starting lineup was so damn good and the bench was so damn bad that was the only thing stopping them from a finals run in 2017
@@thegreathutt what didn’t happen??? Wall did break his hand in the series in 2015, and the wizards had statistically the worst bench in the league in 2017. How bout u actually name something i said that “didn’t happen"
As a wiz fan, thanks for making this on my bday. This team stuck in the middle, they’re gonna need some lottery luck to improve at all with Brad about to sign the super max..
I liked their big 3 but they kept losing to my Cavs in the first round.. if I had to pick one I always go with my hometown team but they were fun to watch
The depth was what prevented them from getting further. The only time they ever won playoff games is when Wall put up an All NBA-level performance. If he played average or bad, there was no shot for them to win
The Wall-Beal teams were never actually title contenders but i think they could have made the ECF (losing in 6 or 7) or even the Finals (likely to get swept) as the east was really week at that time (why the Cavs made 4 straight finals) but never even reached those hights. They were a scappy fast pace team. However the bench depth, Mid draft picks, weird coaching changes, and John Wall falling in the shower ultimately collapsed the promise the team had as perennial playoff contenders. They need to get rid of Beal and start fresh. They are in NBA Limbo rn.
Pfft, try being a Baltimore fan. I mean, the ravens are successful, but being an O’s fan? Unlimited depression. I mean, we’re doing better than average this season, tho.
While no team hits on every decision, Washington's front office seriously struggled with stringing together winning moves, to raise the team's ceiling. They relied upon Wall so much that his damn body broke (though I'm not sure why he didn't opt for surgery earlier in 2018, as he was clearly problems with his heel, going back to that summer). For years, the team lacked scorers, playmakers, and defenders (outside of Ariza's first stint with the team, and after Nene started showing his age, along with the league switching to more mobile 4s). Before Wall's supermax kicked in, the front office spent the remainder of its cap space on Ian Mahinmi at $16M/yr (over 4 years!) and maxing Otto Porter, paying him $27M and making him the highest paid player on the team for a solid 2 season (until he left in 2019). And, in the playoffs, Wall was never spared from a bad performance, as the team couldn't win unless he played at an All NBA level. He was never carried to a win, and the one playoff victory without him playing at that level, was when he missed a game with a busted hand. Otherwise, they never put up less than 2 wins against any playoff opponent (never swept, regular or Gentleman's), and only ever lost the Eastern Conference's #1 seed (outside of Lebron).
@@jayinch2000 That was a huge blow, because it seemed like the front office panicked after that happened, since he was already a last minute backup plan to KD2DC. They still had a chance to make the most of what they had after losing out on Horford, but they blew it. (I badly wanted them to sign Dwight Howard that summer, especially since they were going to pay an injured Ian Mahinmi that much to play backup C. Dwight might've been completely set on playing in his hometown though, after Horford left Atlanta.) The team was lacking: no (young) springy big to possibly catch some lobs and block some shots. Lack of players who could it to their opponent, whether getting downhill off the dribble or making something happen from a midpost position or the low block (Bogdanovic was okay, but Boston easily schemed him out of the series). No leader on defense that could help set the tone.
