I've wadefished heavily in Texas waters for over 50 years. Pretty much anywhere you are, there are alligators nearby. I've only ever heard of two people having any problem with one. Shuffle your feet and you're not likely to get popped by a ray - I never have. I've had countless fish poached off my stringers by sharks - just make sure you don't have a heavy stringer tied to in a way that won't pull off. Honestly, I would be MUCH more afraid to get out and drive on the freeway.
We have a flood of people coming to Texas, and lots more people on the water. We have increasing industrialization along the entire coast. We have a lack of fresh water making way to the estuaries where lots of creatures spawn. TPWD needs to implement MUCH more stringent measures. Make the new lower limits permanent for starters. Outlaw the selling of croaker in bait shops. Stop allowing non-Texas based oyster fishermen in Texas waters, and cut down the number of oyster boats overall.
We used to think the resource was limitless, and we probably harvested way too much. I loved living in those times, and being able to fish without worrying about these things. Nobody hates the ideas of lowering limits and harvest more than me. But it has to be done, and it's already overdue.

Alot of spots in south padre island are ristricted. Tpw should work with spi to open more public fiahing areas to the public.

Enjoyed the video but where do you go to access these areas for wade fishing? 0:03 Eg South Laguna Padre?

The angler at 0:03 is fishing in the Upper Laguna Madre and the angler at 0:10 is fishing the Lower Laguna Madre, but it's a bit difficult to know exactly where. To access the Upper Laguna Madre, you can start at one of the main boat launches near Corpus Christi and head south or you can leave from the Riviera area and cross Baffin Bay to reach the southern end of the Upper Laguna Madre. You can also wade fish in the surf along the coast of any Texas State Park.
